An absolute dining delight! My daughter and I savoured every last mouthful. The staff were attentive and charming. Accommodating my daughter's coeliac requirements was no problem. It wasn't just dinner, it was a wonderful gustatory experience. Thank you, 38 Chairs. Next time I'm in Melbourne, I'll be sure to visit.
The first entrees that came out were delicious but it was downhill from there. Mains consisted of a slab of gluten meat with minimal sauce and some dry overcooked root vegetables. The desserts were small and lacklustre.
Overall, a very disappointing and over priced meal.
Last night I celebrated my birthday at the beautiful restaurant with my girlfriends. Let's just say expect the unexpected here! Food is directly from the farm to your plate. There's no menu so the expectation is a surprise and when it does you're blown out of your mind. From the bread as a starter to the meat board then to the entrees and then the mains to mind blowing desserts everything here was a delight. Leave it to the chef and you're in great hands. They even cater for vegetarians and gluten free meals. Service was exceptional with Mo and Pietro! Thank you again and definitely coming back!
Food was amazing. Perhaps portion sizes were small for the price but absolutely delicious.
Rain info was great and really open after.
Catered perfectly to my celiac friend.

The best thing about the restaurant is that the whole menu is gluten-free and you get a lot of vegetarian options as well. If you're looking for a healthy quick lunch/brunch/dinner, this is a go to place.
I had the Barramundi fillet and vegetable green curry. Generous-sized fillet, with green beans, broccoli, red onion, zucchini, capsicum and asked for a side serve of rice. Well cooked and delicious. Green curry is not overly spiced for my mild-loving palate.
Menu offers daily specials and covers gluten-free or other dietary needs, including vegan and vegetarian.
I asked about dessert as the menu is bare in this regard. Yes, if you ask, you get!
Out came a dish of special balls of banana fritters, honey syrup, vanilla ice cream with fresh fruit salad of strawberries, lychees, mandarin segments. Yum.
A cosy yet light and airy environment, that also has outdoor eating on the footpath. And is dog-friendly!
They have a new customer! As a walk-in, I was treated in a most friendly and helpful manner by all the staff.
What a wonderful find with great food and super friendly staff. This cafe was 70m from our airbnb and open everyday of the Easter long weekend. Expecting it to be crowded we ordered takeaway easily over the phone. It was ready at the time they said and we thoroughly enjoyed the chicken hero sandwich with crispy chicken skin, pork and fennel sausage and crispy duck fat potatoes. The red velvet tea cakes with strawberries, cream and blueberry jam were beyond moist m, soft and delicious and happened to be gluten free. Both hubbyβs cappuccino and my Soy Mocha were the epitome of perfect Melbourne coffees.
We ordered by SMS 2 days later and Donovan the owner recognised my order and remembered my name though I hadnβt written it in the text. I wish I had a cafe this great in Brisbane or Sydney where I live. I will definitely return to this cafe when I stay in the area next. Highly recommended!
Thanks to the crew! ππ
Absolutely one of our favourite restaurants. Great food, always consistent and steak always cooked to perfection. Highly recommend, and added bonus most of the menu is gluten free!
Such a beautiful go to cafe in South Yarra!
So many delicious options and lots of gluten free options which is so great!
This is my new favourite cafe near the city!
Coffee is delicious!!
Absolutely divine. Food was incredible, service fantastic and a special mention to the chefs who handed me a little package of gluten free bread after I mentioned it was the best Iβve ever had!! Absolutely loved our night at Matilda, will most definitely be back.
Food was super delicious, especially the limited time Roman cacio e pepe (they had it available in a gluten free penne version). But the waitress wasnβt really into being there and forgot our orders once. One alcohol free beer on the menu, but it was available. Was super hot inside too (no AC) and tiny/crammed. Portions are reasonable, prices quite high, but still worth it overall.
Hi guys, I sent the below last Thursday in response to your email "how was your experience?" but not sure whether you received as I received a Bounced message re the email address replied to (?) . Anyway, here fyi comments my dinner 8/3:
Most of the food for our party of 3 was Good BUT..
By 7 pm you had run out of gluten free pizza bases which at that time of night is unacceptable. As someone who is very gluten intolerant, I would have booked elsewhere if Iβd thought there was any risk of that occurring.
Instead I had the Pasta "di mare " but w GF pasta. The seafood and sauce were good, no probs at all. On the other hand, the pasta itself was way undercooked- my guess is by about 5 minutes or more - and essentially inedible. (Gluten free pasta takes a LOT longer to cook than regular pasta). My plate returned to the kitchen w almost all the pasta still on it. I brought this the attention of ur waitperson and she said she would let the chef know.
End of the night we get the bill and we were still charged for the dish. This is unacceptable and suggests that either the server did not bring the issue to the attention of the manager to remove the item from the bill, or the server did so and the manager made a bad decision not to.
Spoilt my night and I went home and made myself something to eat as I was ravenous.
Two stars deducted for the service shortcomings.
Fantastic gluten free pasta - Gemelli if I remember correctly. Great service, acoustic is well managed and interior is thoughtful. Worth a cozy wine and pasta night for sure.
Had been here previously a year ago but has seriously gone down hill since then. Cramped and over crowded making it extremely hard to hear anyone talk. Did bottomless and only got one drink in the first hour, we then tried to order 2 each the second round but were told we could only order 12 drinks for a party of 8 despite a table behind us order 3 drinks at a time. Menu item reads that certain food options are already gluten free without alterations, but discovered once arriving to the table that that is incorrect and you must request it to be gluten free. Took over an hour wait for food, with it even getting to the point if someone came over and asked if we had ordered. Food eventually arrived with it being cold. The waitress did deduct some of the bill due to the issue with the gluten free option but it failed to make up for the overall poor experience. Pay the extra money for bottomless and go elsewhere or make sure youβre here on quiet day. If they planned ahead or had a manager who made sure they knew what was going on they might have a chance.
Great customer service, great food, nice environment, and excellent number of choices for halal and gluten free options. Here are the items we ordered and thoughts for some of it;
Black Garlic Chicken Katsu Sando - it tastes good, but the black garlic flavour does not shine at all.
Sukiyaki Beef Rice Bowl - super good, would recommend
U&ME Platter - love the raw fish selection, not too much of a fan of the others.
1991 don
Teriyaki Salmon Rice Bowl (gluten free)
Iced Mocha - good balance of chocolate and coffee, there is less sugar which is good, but ask for more if you like yours sweet.
Hojicha latte - great taste, again, less sugar (which is good).

The food is nice but there was a huge amount of salt in the red wine stew and the broccoli, potato and sausage bake. It was
over powering and took away from the great taste. The gluten free brownie was amazing! I would love to try more of the food.
Just stopped by for lunch in the neighbourhood as a gluten free person and was scouting my options. Iβm not normally one to leave a review but WOW. My first question to them was if they have gf bread, which they did. The person serving suggested the Chicken Breast Chimichurri toastie and for good reason, it was to DIE for. Nothing like Iβve ever tried before. Not to mention the gf bread is the best Iβve ever had. Do yourself a favour and give it a try!
Really delicious food and wines, so many options at very reasonable prices. Vegan cheese available which is great, and gluten-free bases available but I did have a bit of a reaction after eating here so I probably wouldnβt recommend for coeliac sufferers (they do not claim to be coeliac-friendly so I wonβt dock points for this!). The food came out quickly and our entire group really enjoyed their meal so I definitely recommend grabbing dinner here.
We have enjoyed two dinners at Sigdi Kitchen since their opening. Each time we have enjoyed a delicious variety of Indian dishes. They have a variety of Gluten Free options. The staff are friendly and caring about food allergies. It is a relaxing atmosphere. We recommend the saffron rice and Rogan Josh. The papa-dams are wonderful. Very satisfying meals at a reasonable price
Very creative food. The classic set menu was fabulous as was the creativity to cater for our gluten intolerant friend. The service was first class especially from the maitre'd.
Terrible place. Dirty first of all, and disinterested staff who werenβt friendly at all. Food was bland and overpriced. I ordered a βpremium loose leaf teaβ and was given a low rate supermarket tea bag in a pot. I didnβt drink it and asked for it to be taken off of the bill because it wasnβt what I ordered. No apology or acknowledgement. Worst of all I told the waitress I was a coeliac if she could pass it on to the chef, and ordered something quite safe (salmon salad bowl) and still got sick from gluten contamination. I have a feeling this was once a good place that is now being run into the ground by poor management.
absolutely loved the food here, everyone in the kitchen looked so cool and interesting. great music and staff always helps too.
kind handsome man explained their gluten free dishes to me which helped a lot.
I am gluten free and was surprised and delighted to find the gluten free bread here absolutely divine. It tastes like pancakes, is soft and thick and did I mention it tastes like pancakes. The service is lovely and the atmosphere in the Cafe is beautiful, it looks fantastic with the marble floor and the dimmed lights create an awesome vibe. What a great place!!
