Drove from Kansas City, Mo just to check this place out. I am celiac and loved all the options I had. Got the cauliflower tiki masala and it was delicious. Server asked if I needed GF or celiac safe. Made me feel comfortable eating there. Will definitely be returning soon.
I have celiac and consistently love this place ! The serving staff is always kind and today, I believe the kitchen manager came out to tell me he ensured my food was prepared gluten free
Love this place ! Great service and amazing food

They don’t respect requests for gluten free items, don’t respect celiac safe requests. Aka including a chicken tender crumb in the gluten free fries. Also when they get politely informed of their mistakes on these topics the workers might tell you “what do you want me to do about it now.”
Absolutely amazing. Better than Johnnys. Burgers were phenomenal, and had gluten free, dairy free, and vegan options. Sauce selection was amazing. Finished with an alcoholic milkshake that was perfect. Considered getting fries but it was a perfectly filling meal, we weren't sure if we would of been able to handle fries lol

I like Rudy's because their salads and gluten free crust are pretty good but every single time without fail they mess up a part of my order. I end up not getting everything I paid for and it's really frustrating.
It wasn't amazing. I ordered extra cheese and the pizza had almost no cheese on it. I also ordered a gluten free crust and the edges were completely burned. I was thoroughly disappointed with my $24 pizza. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this place for their pizza. Service was fantastic!
A unique little restaurant in the heart of downtown Lawrence, it offers some ethnic variety, lots are gluten free options, vegan and vegetarian. I got the pad thai with shrimp, which was a bit different than what I've had elsewhere. The noodles were thinner, kind of sticky. The taste and portion size was good. We shared thai spring rolls with peanut sauce, which was a refreshing start. My husband had the tom kha soup, which was more tangy than sweet, had tomatoes in it, not what I would expect in the soup. It wasn't bad, but wasn't as good as another place we've had it. We ended with mango ice cream, which was tasty. Overall, service was satisfactory, food was good, atmosphere was relaxed.
Excellent choices and also gluten free options. Salad bar is my favorite and there is a lot of choices! I like the managers special the most. Half sandwich and soup and or one trip to the salad bar. Choose the salad bar it will not disappoint! Also love getting ice milk at the end of my meal!
Amazing atmosphere. The food was outstanding, I had the lasagne and my wife had Gluten Free rigatoni bolognese and both were amazing. Our server was Brooke, she was top notch!
The pastries are so unique I wish we could have tried them all. You have to give the za’atar bagel a try as well as the baklava cheesecake. If you have dietary restrictions (vegan or gluten free) the staff know all the ingredients and can point you in the right direction. I was told a few items were gluten free (ie an oatmeal cookie, and the financiers) but you’ve got to ask! The coffee was also the best so far in Lawrence after trying a few places on Mass St. Give this place a try, you won’t regret it!
A wonderful restaurant for the adventurous and those looking for the familiar. A menu full of South American dishes while also offering more familiar breakfast fare means everyone can find something here.
Be sure to try the maracuya (passion fruit) pie dessert they offer.
Better yet, arepas being made with corn meal means gluten-free!
They have gluten-free pancakes, which is great for celiacs. MacKenzie is one of our regular servers and she is always a delight. The entire menu is pretty tasty.
Lovely shop hidden away serving a wide range of drinks. They have gluten free and regular bakery items. The place looks tiny on first look but entertaining it just keeps going with multiple side rooms. Giving a private quiet feeling.
Kind and attentive service and delicious food. I’ve been to this location several times and always have a positive experience. They are great about letting me know what I can order/adjust for gluten and dairy allergies. I tried the Southwest Salad with the Dill dressing (gf/df) yesterday and it was so fresh and yummy!
Delightful Za and drinks. I enjoyed a gluten free pizza that was a so tasty. I also sampled the regular Detroit style pizza that was amazing and I’ll pay for it later but my gods it was possibly top three pizzas I’ve ever had the pleasure of masticating. We also enjoyed some delightful beers and sangria. All of it was a pure delight.
The food here is always 10/10. I usually get the Raja dip (blend of cheeses with pita bread) for an appetizer & the Petra platter (chicken, hummus, vegetables) for main dish. Both are full of flavor and delicious, I could easily eat both of these dishes everyday and be happy. Most dishes include an option of lentil soup or salad to start, both are fantastic. Brought friends who are vegetarian & gluten free (they have gluten free pita!!) and both found great options to eat. Take out & dine in available, if you dine in there’s usually no wait times!
This was one of the cutest coffee shop I have ever been to .I love the outdoors seating and the little forest corner. The music they were playing outside was just right, not loud or obnoxious. The people running the business are super nice and welcoming. Love the variety of drinks and food (including gluten free options).
Pickleman’s is my favorite sandwich place ever! You can’t ask for better toasted sandwiches, or an Italian chop salad. Ask for Giardiniera peppers on (almost) anything! The crew is usually efficient and friendly, and the managers are always that way. If you get a personal pizza, the 10” GF crust is actually the way to go even if you’re not looking for gluten free. It’s a better individual portion size, and it actually tastes better too.
Not a true gluten free menu, owner put down the waitress who was absolutely knowledgeable and extremely friendly to compensate for his lack of proper information regarding allergy menu. His menu offers gluten free options but there is not dedicated side for grill or toaster. It should be properly changed to gluten friendly. This can truly harm true Celiacs. Owner was absolutely rude and shook his head at having my order sent back even adding comments to other customers about allergies.
They have an extensive gluten free menu which is great. And the sauce they have for their wings is also very good.
But I am reasonably sure that they just don't season the ribs, at all.
We arrived around 1:45pm on Saturday. The hostess seated us in a booth near the bar and the bartender was also our server. When we arrived the tavern room was not open and there were about 2-3 other parties in the restaurant.
I felt sorry for our server because he was making fancy cocktails, waiting tables, and bussing. He was very polite and helpful. So the rest of my review is nothing against the server...he was great and doing his best as the only staff member on the floor.
Positive - lots of dairy free and gluten free options.
Positive - friendly server
Now the negatives:
1. We ordered the calamari appetizer - it came out but had two medium length dark hairs cooked into the batter. See: COOKED INTO & NOT OUR HAIR
2. It took forever to get our food. The appetizer took awhile but the entres took a long time. At least an hour. I had a chicken sandwich and my son got shrimp scampi with linguini. Neither should have taken more than 20 minutes. And they weren't busy. We got our food at 3:00 pm.
The food was just okay. It wasn't bad but it wasn't so amazing that it was worth that wait or that price.
Around 4:30 pm, I had a major stomach ache like maybe I did end up getting gluten or dairy in my food or something was just bad, but I probably won't be going back again.
Forgot to take photos of our food because we ate it so quickly. We ordered an array of items, everything was excellent. From the adult beverages to the cup of soup, arepa, breakfast potatoes/ eggs/ green chile + red chile.. fantastic. As a gluten free (not celiac) vegetarian, married to a vegetarian, we were shocked by how many options we had on the menu. We were surprised to have no wait to sit, good service, and most shocking of all - how affordable it was. We will be back any time we visit Lawrence.
After you eat here you will obsess until you can eat here again (and again). Delightful seasonal cocktails. Perfect for date night and small groups. Allergen knowledgeable, celiac + vegan tested and approved.
Great service, I've never had an issue here. The management must treat their people well. The food is good! Definitely more tex-mex so take that into consideration when ordering. I got the fish burrito (I forget what it's called on the menu, sorry) and I asked for it as a burrito bowl. They are always willing to accommodate that, and I very much appreciate it! (aka gluten free friendly) Oh, and if you like spicy salsa, you can ask for that as part of the chips and salsa set up. It's good!
I gave 4 stars on the atmosphere only because the music was a little loud to be able to hold a conversation and it was hot/stuffy inside that day.
It is a Lawrence classic with awesome murals on the wall! So definitely check it out if you're from out of town.
We need gluten free fóod and we had the best we"ve found at Slim Chickens in Lawrence, Ks. It was scrumptious. I was truly wonderful. Please could you build one in Topeka, Ks. We would come to eat there every week and would tell all of our friends and our local celiac club too.
