This was the halfway point to meet up with our son to celebrate some family birthdays. We waited at the bar and had some drinks and an appetizer. (super excited that they had chambord and could make my favorite drink!) We put our name on the wait list and moved to a table closer to the time of his arrival. The staff was very accommodating in helping us make sure we had a table when he arrived. The place is super laid back with a lot of locals in to watch the game on a Saturday night. The food was all yummy and there were gluten free options for 2 family members. Everything is very reasonably priced. If you are in a hurry, don't go here, it is not a fast food restaurant. If you are looking to sit back and relax, this is the spot. We will be back!
Oooh this is a fantastic spot!! If you're not stopping by Cousins Cuban while visiting wnc you are most definitely missing out!! Menu is mostly all gluten free, the table hot sauce is super delicious and really should be bottled and sold, all the dishes were top notch and coffee was great too. Highly highly recommend!!
Charming spot with delicious cocktails and extensive GF / GFO / Vegan options. I had the bucatini with GF pasta and the vegan cheesecake (I avoid gluten and lactose) and both dishes were lovely; impressive cheesecake.
There was a long line, but worth it. Tiny shop with 2 tables. Many vegan and gluten free options. They have gluten free sugar cones! The vegan vanilla was outstanding.
Fantastic spot for lunch! They have a seasonal menu with lots of options for vegan/vegetarian, gluten free and other allergies. The space is beautifully decorated and the patio is wonderful. Our Waiter was knowledgeable and very attentive.
Pure and Proper has redefined what an elevated dining experience can be. From the moment you walk in, you’re not just a guest—you’re part of something special. The cocktail program is masterful—creative, balanced, and delivered with both precision and flair. The Negroni was a standout, but every drink on the menu is crafted with the same elevated attention to detail.
The food? Impeccable. The arugula salad was crisp and bright, the mussels layered with flavor and served with gluten free bread or sourdough, and the pork chop and pork belly were pure comfort, elevated to fine dining. The Brussels sprouts are not to be missed. And the chocolate flourless cake? A decadent finish that sealed the evening with delight.
But what truly sets Pure and Proper apart is the spirit of the place. The owner’s infectious enthusiasm radiates through design and decor and the staff, whose camaraderie adds a heartfelt, human dimension to the experience. It’s rare to find a restaurant where excellence feels so personal.
We’ll be returning often—not just for the food, but for the feeling. This isn’t just a great restaurant. It’s a place you want to be part of.
Would give a 3.5 if I could. Was just okay. Appreciated the fact that their crepes were gluten free but after ordering wished they offered a non gluten free option as they were just okay. Cheese tamale had about 2 quarter sized drops of cheese. Soup was good but overpriced. Pinot was good.
Great menu and delicious food. Daily specials and options for gluten free and vegetarian. The outdoor dining was a little disappointing. Very small area, overlooked a gravel lot and a dumpster.
Driving along with no civilization and the night closing in on me, I started searching “food near me” and here we are MONDAY and nothing is open. I start to panic I might have to eat from a gas station or vending machine. I suddenly spy the oasis of Black Mountain Pepperoni’s Gourmet Pizza. I am judging and saying, “oh great, the cliche strip mall…” will it be a hidden gem? Well, yes, my people! It is a new staple in my mountain list of mom and pop stops. Thin crust was not good, but the hand tossed made in house crust was too die for. I chose the Great White which had Alfredo sauce and I added garlic Parmesan. Then it had mozzarella and basil. I added kalamata. I’m extra and I made the most bomb-azzz pizza ever. True delight. They had so many other good things I wanted to try like dessert pizza, calzones and salads. Vegetarian items clearly marked and it was easy to create a veg meal. They have gluten free crust and tons of cool art on the walls. I will always remember this pizza and love that they were so friendly. Don’t miss the homemade ranch. Crust totally 10/10.
Best meal I’ve had in North Carolina so far. I had the Brussel sprouts (amazing), trout (fabulous combo of wood fired trout and crunchy bits of nuts with sweet oranges) and buttermilk pie (I didn’t even know this existed until now). All were better than the last. We sat next to a fire place which made the atmosphere cozy and romantic. Prices were on the higher side but definitely worth every penny. My boyfriend and I spent $100 after tip for wine, appetizer, entree and shared dessert. I was surprised to find out the chef is only 25 years old. Even more impressive. Very happy I stumbled across one of the latest restaurants open in black mountain. Highly recommend. Unfortunately not many vegetarian options but I did over hear that there were gluten free options.
The food was fantastic, and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations. We showed up for lunch and got one breakfast taco (Migas) and 2 for lunch, Kirb Service and the Morita. Highly recommend stopping in for a bite any time of day if you’re roaming around Black Mountain. They have gluten free and vegetarian options marked on the menu as well. Oh, they have adult beverages too.
Love this local place. Good atmosphere..laid back, comfortable, clean. I love the art on the walls, music, and outdoor seating. I love that it is family friendly and also a great place to go for a night out. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Food is great - I like that there are vegetarian/vegan and gluten free options.
