I really wanted to love Via Chicago, especially as someone managing both gluten and dairy allergies. I built my own medium pizza with the gluten-free crust and the vegan cheese combo (Daiya and tofu ricotta). Unfortunately, it just didn’t hit the mark for me. The crust was thinner and a bit tougher than expected (definitely not worthy of the Chicago style title), but the biggest issue was the cheese… It was so heavy and overpowering that it completely overshadowed the rest of the pizza. Being from Chicago, I fully understand that Chicago style pizza has a lot of cheese, but when you’re working with alternative cheeses, certain alterations need to be made because they simply DO NOT cook the same as regular cheese options. The texture ended up being more slimy than satisfying, and there was more cheese than crust. There was actually more cheese than anything else, including the toppings that I added (pepperoni, pineapple and supposedly onion, but I didn’t see or taste that on the pizza)
Ultimately, I understand that allergy-friendly options are often more expensive, but when I’m paying $35 for a medium pizza, I at least hope I’ll want to eat the leftovers. Sadly, that wasn’t the case here. While I appreciate the effort to offer gluten-free and vegan options, I don’t think I’ll be returning.
If you’re looking for great gluten-free and vegan pizza in Portland, I’d highly recommend Boxcar instead, they do it Detroit style and they do it right!

I've been on a quest to find good GF pizza since a recent health diagnosis made it a necessity, and not only is their crust leaps and bounds above every other place I've tried, but it also comes in a full 15" pie, available with a garlic cream sauce (I also have a tomato allergy 🥲), and is some of the best pizza I've found here, GF or not. I ordered for the second time tonight to make sure it wasn't a fluke, and adding feta this time, it was even better than the last time.

I tried to call in an order for a gluten free pizza for a person w celiac. The representative (Amy) told me that they only had two gluten free crusts and could not sell them to us as a call in order, and not even if we walked in because she had to save them for “emergency orders”. We asked what an emergency order was and she said it was an online order… so we can order gluten free online but not walk in or call in an order for one? She was pretty unhelpful about it besides blaming her boss, which is unprofessional even if it is true, and doesn’t improve the abysmal customer service standard set by their boss. Really disappointed.

When we were traveling from out of town we stopped here based on reviews and menu designations that they had gluten free and dairy free options as she has a gluten allergy and I am breastfeeding a baby with a dairy allergy. Unfortunately, they are not allergy friendly. I got a second slice of pizza after my first and watched them heat it… nearly touching a slice with cheese, and then used the same peel to take both out of the oven, definitely contaminating my slice, and then my mom got symptoms of gluten exposure after eating. If you do not have allergies and prefer to eat dairy free or gluten free this place is good enough, but it is NOT SAFE for people with allergies.

We have frequented this pizza place for years and not had any problems until Fathers Day 2025. Found a piece of hair in the gluten free pizza which we could sorta excuse, however the next day when placing the leftovers in the oven for reheating we discovered that there were two different colored and very long pieces of hair under the toppings of the gf pizza. We've been ordering from Atlas Pizza to help accommodate one of our kids' friends who have horrific allergies and when we first ordered from them they're gluten-free dairy-free vegan pizzas we're almost indistinguishable between the regular pizzas except for of course the price. Apparently during the pandemic shutdown they either lost the ability to order the quality imitation ingredients such as good gluten-free dough good dairy-free cheeses good imitation vegan meats because the pizza that we got tasted like a meal y grainy gritty and the meat was stringy. For the prices that they are charging they need to be a little bit more honest especially if they've had to change ingredients because of the pandemic. This will be the last time my family ever orders from this place because even the regular pepperoni and cheese pizzas we ordered were overcooked and a house full of teenagers didn't even like it. Good luck in your efforts I will not be shocked when you shutter your doors but I will be shocked if you guys don't end up franchising and becoming the next Domino's gross pizza out there.
