I’ve been going here since I went to Marquette years ago and to go back with celiac and be able to eat gluten free sushi is a win. They mark the gluten free items on their menu and even have gf soy sauce.
Been searching for a decent sushi place in MKE since moving here 3 yrs ago from NYC. Hungry Sumo finally is my go to place. Had the Spicy Scallop and the okie dokie roll. Service is friendly and attentive. place is small but roomy 'quaint'. Seemed to be plenty of street parking nearby on. a Friday evening. A bit of a wait. But can find a drink elsewhere and they'll text you. Went with someone who was gluten free and plenty of choices.
First time eating here and all of the food was delicious! I also have a gluten allergy and they took extra precautions to ensure I had a safe meal. Will be eating here again!
I have a gluten restriction and they accommodate very well compared to other sushi restaurants. Didn’t get a stomach ache at all very delicious sushi I got the spicy shrimp gf and Boston roll gf 🍣🍱
A nice spot for a quick Sushi / fusion meal. Especially nice Tom Kha soup and specialty rolls. They offer a gluten-free menu, tamari and are knowledgeable about cross-contact.
We went dine in on Friday, we both know that they are closing at 9.30PM. We are from other city( 2 hours away )and sorry that we couldn’t arrived earlier because we have to wait for our daughter done school. we arrived there 8.50pm and order everything by 9pm. Our server gave us a notice that last call is 9.15pm. Which is mean we still a little time to dine in (am I right)
First of all food. I gave 3 stars because food was ok over load sauces. Waygu was chewy.
Second, service… server is nice enough but could tell it did not seem genuine but I asked for soy sauce.. and they probably clean already so our server gave us a gluten free soy sauce instead maybe too much work for them to give me a regular soy sauce.
Last, when we arrived there.. All the staffs gave me a look like ugh “late customers” I get it that why we were rush eating and try to get out asap. And we are not plan to go back again.
Just fantastic. My wife has Celiac's and the owner goes out of her way to ensure my wife is well cared for throughout the meal. Definitely someplace you need to visit. Their sushi artists put together well crafted plates, that are a pleasure to enjoy.
Saturday night was busy! We were seated right away! If you see that all the sections are full order the soup to sip and enjoy the atmosphere as the chefs prepare the most fresh, tasty and delicious delights!! I am Gluten free because of celiac. All the items that are clearly marked Gluten free and my stomach felt great afterwards!! (Remember soy sauce could have gluten in it)
This is one of my favorite and consistent sushi places in downtown Madison. It's easy to get in and out during the lunch hours and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. Staff are knowledgeable on gluten free options and have GF soy sauce available upon request. Highly recommend.
This is a nice local sushi spot, not too far from the hotel we stayed at. We sat at the bar and watched them prepare the sushi, which is always fun. However, we ordered edamame as an appetizer, which didn't come out until after our rolls were already served up. The rolls are a bit on the small side and didn't stick together particularly well, so it got a little messy. However, it did taste very fresh and flavorful. Items that are gluten-free are notated on the menu, and they have gluten-free soy sauce if you ask for it.
Stopped in for lunch on recommendation from Duluth Trading employee. Wow! What a show-stopper! Sat at sushi bar, had a lovely experience. Recommendation from sushi chef was spot-on, utterly delicious, like a religious experience. Will definitely be back! Server was attentive and fast. No problem requesting gluten-free soy sauce. Green tea was the best!
We were welcomed in like we were arriving at a family member's house for dinner!
Prompt service, clean tables, delicious rolls (and sushi burrito 🤤) make this an easy 5 ⭐ review.
Bonus 6th ⭐ for gluten free accommodations!
I have been hunting for a place to get some good sashimi in Milwaukee for years since returning from the West coast, and had given up until, finally, my wife suggested we stop in to Sushi Yuki. I am not exaggerating when I say this is the best fish outside of California to the very best of my knowledge. It was bar none the most wonderful experience we've had anywhere in the city I've loved for years, from the service (shoutout to Sae!) to the atmosphere (the other guests were delightful and the patio was beautiful). The food was simply sublime (I recommend the ikura and the salmon cheek especially, that ikura was divine). You absolutely must come here—I know I will be returning, and soon.
I ought to note that I have celiac disease, and they handled it completely without issue, and the menu is both clearly marked and accurate for gluten-free options.
I decided to give this restaurant a second chance after my first experience of dining in. Unfortunately the results were the same. The sushi was extremely disappointing. I have had sushi all over the United States so my review is based upon many experiences some outstanding and others not so much. VIP Sushi is in my opinion not worthwhile. I ordered a spicy yellowtail roll, the fish was dry, no flavor and had some type of crunchy bread crumb which I have never had in this type of roll. There was no spicy sauce drizzled on top. Nothing spicy about it and the crunchy crumbs triggered my gluten sensitivity. Also ordered 3 basic types of sushi, the salmon, tuna and yellowtail. The salmon and tuna were bland, lacking in flavor and it was difficult to tell the 2 apart, the yellowtail tasted fishy. The rice in the roll and sushi was overly sticky and gummy.
I was disappointed and needless to say I won't be returning. My meal cost $28.
The quest to find great sushi continues...
Highly recommend! I have visited the Mequon location multiple times and they provide great customer service. Relaxing and friendly environment with quality and creative sushi rolls to appease everyone’s palate. Vegan and gluten free options. Delicious drinks! You won’t regret paying a visit to this attentive, talented and kind team!
I am a celiac but the waitress was able to help me. They do not have gluten free soy sauce but I brought my own. No shame. It is a small place and some of the staff don't speak English fluently but that was part of the charm and I appreciated Soon's more. Some of the reviews I read docked 2 stars for the atmosphere. If you want awesome sushi and more high class comfort - get it to go.
This became my favorite sushi place since they opened. Great food. Awesome roll is my favorite for gluten free. Love the Thai soup and Tekkah Don as well. It can get busy so plan accordingly. We get carryout as well.
I have come here multiple times over the year and am always happy with the whole experience. I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and the waitress was so knowledgeable on what I could have on the menu and helped me order a delicious meal! I was so thankful for her help, it made our dining experience that much better. I will always recommend them for sushi!
The basic rolls and a couple deluxe rolls are good quality gluten free options. They are up front about cross contamination possibilities but make great efforts to have safe preparations. They keep gluten free temari on hand.
