I tried a variety of foods and they were all delicious and the staff were incredibly patient and kind. I will definitely be back. This is nice and close to the New Haven Union Train station.

The have a gluten free Injera option. I think it is called “black” when served gluten-free. Based on the servers explanation, this seems to be the preferred method as it tears easier.
I have never had Ethiopian food. I was really really impressed with the flavors. This restaurant has set the bar high. I would definitely come again if I am in the area!
Extremely celiacs concious and attentive! There weren't any on menu soups that were gf vegetarian/pescatarian options, so the kitchen staff and manager David personalized a great soup I could eat. I think anyone with celiacs will feel very safe eating here, and especially reccomend for gluten free people that eat meat!
We stopped in here during our visits in New haven.
This establishment boasts an appealing atmosphere with a charming ambience. The service is courteous, although the waitstaff, while kind, may be preoccupied. Consideration for a designated server could enhance attentiveness. The cappuccino is commendable. Among the crepes, the Norvegienne, featuring smoked salmon, lacks a harmonious flavor profile with the buckwheat base. However, the strawberry, banana, and Nutella crepe proves delightful. While I would revisit, I suggest avoiding the savory buckwheat crepes, as they may not align with personal preferences, though they may appeal to those seeking a gluten-free option. Be prepared to smell like a crepe when leaving. Bathroom is in a very weird location with scary movie vibes.
Excellent menu with a wide selection of options including gluten free and vegan. The cocktails are awesome too, it's a great place to grab a quick drink, a quick bite, or to eat and chat for a long time
Had a great meal at Marco Polo Pizzeria in New Haven! The gluten-free pizza was honestly one of the best I’ve had crispy, flavorful, and really satisfying. Also tried a gluten-free wrap and it was just as tasty. Super friendly staff and cozy vibe. I’ll definitely be back!
This review is for the street level fast food restaurant storefront specializing in chicken nuggets. The gluten friendly chicken nuggets were excellent--little chunks of real chicken (not processed) cooked to a juicy light golden brown. The french fries were good. The little bags that the chicken and fries came in was foil lined, so I imagine that would be great for keeping take out orders warm on a chilly night. The staff who took my order at the counter were friendly and efficient. The atmosphere rating is a 3 because the tables were dirty and the seating area needed tidying up.
Food was wonderful! Great flavors, many gluten free options, service excellent- attentive and warm and friendly. Waiter Lucas was terrific! Would have liked music to be a little lower, a bit loud for conversation.
The people here are very good about knowing what's gluten friendly on their menu and what isn't. The only thing they will guarantee as gluten free is the burger without bun. However, I've eaten the shakes and fries many times and only gotten ill once, so you may do ok if you're only gluten intolerant rather than celiac.
*update* They now have a gluten free bun, but I wouldn't bother with it. It costs more and quickly disintegrates into mush due to how greasy the burger patties are.
Such a fun and delicious spot right in downtown New Haven! I stopped by T-Swirl for the first time and was super impressed. The crepes are made with a rice flour batter, so they’re naturally gluten-free and come out thin, crispy, and beautifully wrapped like a cone—perfect for eating on the go or dining in.
I ordered the Strawberry Nutella and the Crème Brûlée with Banana—both were amazing! The strawberry Nutella was packed with fresh fruit and the perfect amount of sweetness. The crème brûlée crepe had a creamy custard with that classic caramelized sugar top, and the banana just made it even better. Total dessert heaven!
Ordering was really easy with their touchscreen kiosks, and even though it got busy, the service was fast and friendly. The inside is clean, modern, and cozy, though it’s more of a casual grab-and-go vibe than a full sit-down meal experience.
Definitely coming back to try more flavors. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something different, fresh, and fun!
There are a lot of gluten free and pepper free options if you build your own bowl. I love to swap out the base (lettuce or quinoa) for sweet potatoes and then load up on veggies and toppings, which is slightly more expensive but well worth it!
Excellent, inventive food and service that goes the extra mile with a pleasant modern ambience. Although the menu doesn’t specify, they offer a number of delicious gluten free choices— including desserts--and will make accommodations, such as providing gf crackers instead of bread. A lovely experience.
Beautiful establishment, attentive staff. Flavors of the meals are out of this world. I had a wonderful experience sitting at the bar. Will absolutely be back soon! Gluten free options. Greatly gifted chef. Drinks were SO tasty too! I got the tuna, got it as the chef recommended. My friend ordered the salmon. Was so good! Almond cake, get it if you can!
All the burgers can be made on a gluten free bun, which is very good quality. There is no dedicated gluten free frier, but I haven't had an issue eating the fries (I have gluten intolerance though, not celiac). There is also flourless chocolate cake!
My favorite meal here is The Smoker burger on a gluten free bun with fries and a pineapple express.
I ordered the chicken and berria tacos told them I had a gluten allergy and went over everything I couldn’t have including cross-contamination. The tacos were really good and I didn’t get sick so overall really good experience!!
The servers are generally very helpful in negotiating food allergies. There are at least 1-2 gluten free options each for appetizers, entrees, and desserts. All the food I've tried here has been divine!
My favorite meal here is stuffed grape leaves to start, vegetable moussaka, and baked milk custard for dessert!
5 star all around! Massaman chicken and the Saigon rolls, WOW, compliments to the chef!!
I love that most items are gluten free.
The flavor profile is out of this world and an explosion of flavor.
The atmosphere is moody and romantic.
Food came out in the blink of an eye and waitress let us enjoy our meals in peace (rare for the US).
We WILL be back. My new favorite spot!
Pricy vegan and gluten free options, however worth the prices. Amazing choices to make any special occasion even more special for the vegan gluten free folks. Owner is very nice. Top notch. Oh, and you even get a good sized fresh salad with your dinners. Will be back. 🧡
I love browsing through the used books (mostly literary fiction and popular histories) with a cup of spiced chai latte. The indoor and outdoor seating areas are comfortable and well lit, if packed during the lunch rush.
I'm less enthusiastic on the food front: the gluten free sandwiches are way too expensive given that they're made on udi's bread. For almost $10, I want something made in-house.
Interesting little place in New Haven. Unique inside with a bank vault storing wine. Attentive servers and great menu. The four of us each enjoyed our different dishes of meat lovers pizza, gluten free pasta w shrimp, seared salmon and steak salad.
Drinks were also good and well made.
Biggest complaint is the noise level. The music speaker sounded blown with much humming and crackle for all bass noise and then as the place filled from 6:15-8 pm it became too noisy to hear people next to me.
We eventually left and sat outside to visit. Might dine here again but won’t go on a Friday or during peak dining.
Lovely addition to the New Haven dining scene. Interesting wine list. The salmon was delicious and the gluten free pasta was top notch. Appropriately attentive service from the friendly staff. I'd love to get back there soon to try the tasting menu!
The New Haven location is one of my favorite spots to go for breakfast, lunch, or anything in between. Andrew is extremely kind and helpful, making the entire experience a delight. I am constantly thinking I have found my favorite thing on the menu and then I try something new, and the cycle starts all over!
I am also celiac and they have a great selection of gluten free options. I couldn't recommend Life Bowls enough.
Simply amazing food and service! Everything I ordered - the endive salad, the duck (canard au chou), and the grand marnier souffle were prepared to perfection with high quality ingredients! In addition, when we initially told our server that I must eat gluten free, he did not bat an eyelash. Everything I ordered already happened to be GF already (and he knew this off hand), but they brought me gluten free toast when my husband was served baguette slices and told me which of my husband's dishes I could try. For those that have a food sensitivity, this consideration means everything for a most pleasant dining experience.
Also appreciated was that, after suggesting some wines we liked, our server guided us to a delicious wine within our budget that went very well with both our entrees.
My husband ordered the duck confit appetizer and the venison (chevreuil aux poivres), both delicious and perfectly prepared. He also loved the grand marnier souffle. It's so rare that everything we might both order in a restaurant would be so wonderful. We will definitely be back with our foodie friends!
Delicious vegan and gluten free options. Falafel is the best I’ve ever had. The fresh OJ is a must order. Havenly is absolutely amazing and I hope they can expand. An elegant casual restaurant, it’s the perfect place to meet friends and family or hang out with a book. Can’t wait to come back.
Excellent coffee and yummy breakfast! They accommodated my gluten allergies with no issue! If you’re staying at the Omni on Temple Street, this is by far a superior option to their 19th Floor breakfast at a fraction of the cost.
This might be my favorite store of all time. They have amazing hot food, great snacks (gluten free and keto friendly) and very friendly staff. Must visit while in New Haven.
The familiar aromas of cumin, cardamom and clove greet you upon entering Sitar Restaurant in New Haven, where northern Indian cuisine has found a comfortable home amid contemporary décor. Exposed brick walls contrast with white pillars and ceiling, while caramel-toned chairs and navy upholstered booths create a modern yet inviting atmosphere.
On a recent visit, the lamb vindaloo arrived in a traditional metal bowl, its reddish-brown sauce glistening under the restaurant's soft lighting. Each spoonful delivered the dish's signature heat, tempered by tender chunks of lamb and brightened with fresh cilantro. The accompanying basmati rice, adorned simply with carrot slivers and herbs, provided the necessary counterpoint to the robust curry.
The garlic naan deserves special mention. Pulled from the tandoor at the precise moment, it arrives with the ideal balance of char and chew, its surface bubbled and glistening with a whisper of butter and garlic.
Sitar's menu extends beyond these standards to include chicken tikka masala, lamb rogan josh and saag paneer, all prepared with an eye toward authenticity rather than adaptation. Vegetarian and gluten-free options appear throughout the offerings, reflecting a thoughtful consideration for diverse dietary needs.
The service strikes that delicate balance between attentiveness and restraint. Water glasses remain filled, empty plates disappear promptly, and questions about spice levels receive honest answers rather than default reassurances.
Some diners have noted occasional delays during peak hours, though the quality of the food generally compensates for any wait. Others praise the restaurant's delivery service, which reportedly arrives with food still steaming in secured packaging.
Sitar operates daily during lunch and dinner hours, with a brief afternoon closure. Prices remain reasonable for the portion size, with most entrees allowing for tomorrow's lunch — a value proposition that, like the restaurant itself, satisfies without unnecessary flourish.
Donut Crazy specializes in donuts, but also features great coffee and tea selections. There are additional breakfast options with eggs and pastries as well. They are open later than nearby coffee shops in the summer. Seating is student and writer friendly. The manager is terrific and leads staff to pay attention to details about service that others might miss.
Gluten free rice krispie treats are available for those needing an option.
Everything was ok, nothing phenomenal but very dietary restriction friendly—in our group we had a nut allergy (at a Thai place I know), vegetarian and a gluten allergy. But we all got our food we’re happy.
