Absolutely DELICIOUS tacos. OMG I wish I could teleport these to Boston. The cornbread was also so delicious!!
What drew me to this place was the fact that the menu only marks what HAS gluten instead of what can be made gluten-free, suggesting that the menu is quite expansive for gluten-free diners. While yes, it is, the caveat is that there is significant cross-contamination for fried items. So, I was lured by the taquitos, but the bartender told me that they’re fried in the same oil as other items that aren’t gluten-free, hence the cross-contamination. I think they should be more straightforward about this on the menu when one looks online ahead of time.
Otherwise an excellent experience with still some amazing choices.

We were referred here because of gluten free options. After getting here we were disappointed that our server said none of the sides were gluten free. 5 mins after being seated our server came back and said he was moved downstairs and we were left without a server at all. Literally NO ONE checked on us and had to flag someone down for a check. Worst service I have ever had. The music was so loud I couldn't hear my family speak. Hands down an awful experience! Food was just ok... two things were wrong but no one even came to check or make it right. Go somewhere else!
This is my second time dining at the DC Hell’s Kitchen, and as usual, I had a great time! I’m both gluten and lactose intolerant, so I’m limited on what I can order, but everything I ate was delicious! I did prepare by taking a lactaid dose before my appetizer, as if I’d easier to avoid gluten on the menu rather than dairy (my reaction to gluten is also worse than my reaction to dairy). The grilled octopus appetizer was phenomenal, and the halibut entree was incredibly delicious. Our server Larry was very personable, friendly, and attentive. My father really enjoyed his filet mignon and the cauliflower side he ordered. We will definitely be returning in the future!
We really enjoyed our experience here. With our allergies (gluten and dairy) the staff was attentive and flexible with our needs. It’s always appreciated people know what is in the dishes they are making, and we were either redirected to other choices or a modification can be made.
The deviled eggs were prepared without dairy (in the mousse) and they were still delicious. Green beans and sweet potatoes were paired with our steaks and they amazing.
We also enjoyed our cocktails — Manhattan Noir — which were prepared perfectly, and topped with three Luxardo cherries.
Atmosphere was great as well. The boardwalk area is fun and vibrant. The Grill makes an excellent choice for a higher end meal in this area.
Some of the best tacos I’ve had, especially for late-night, in the city. Two tacos are plenty — not the tiny street tacos you’ll find at some spots. I prefer their flour tortillas, but you can get corn if you prefer a non-gluten option. The steak tacos and burritos are the best meat option in my opinion, but the chicken is a pretty good runner-up if you’re looking for something a little lighter. Their yellow rice is fantastic, and the side salad is surprisingly enjoyable too because most side salads at Mexican spots are mediocre at best. If you’re getting guac, the chips aren’t too phenomenal, maybe because they get cold so quickly and don’t tend to have enough salt — but the guac is fresh and flavorful, so it’s worth ordering them paired with that. Definitely a worthwhile spot to get solid, non-greasy Mexican food on the regular.
The menu is small but they had options for my friend who eats gluten free. I wanted to have the Nicole’s salad but the waiter came back and told me they were all out. I was disappointed but got the frisée salad and a side of green beans and they were totally delicious! Our waiter was so nice, and efficient, and it was a great experience overall! I will be back!
I really liked this restaurant. 99% of the items are gluten-free! I had the trio of salsa and guac and chips. The only things that were not gluten-free with the kids menu and the desserts. My only complaint is you have to ask what’s on every single taco. It’s not listed on their menus anywhere. But my server was super helpful and everything tasted amazing!

My wife is gluten and msg sensitive. We also at Founding Farmer’s and Lupo Marino restaurants. Those were nice, but the food and prices at Chopsmith were considerably better.
My favorite was the omelette I got for
lunch PLIS added mushroom and onion AND the unique hard cheese that starts with an “H.”
I ate there three times over three days.
It became my go-to during my stay in DC.
It’s our 5yr anniversary ..vacationing in DC looking for a restaurant to celebrate. We Choose Officina! We’ve eaten at many places. This restaurant is the most professional restaurant in service and food plus making us feel very special! Fi Fi the manager was so great!! Thank you! The calamari and salad were perfect along with the pasta with shrimp. Very clean and love the service and the food!! Vegan and Gluten free options! Prices are great too!! We will be back! We love this place! Bill and Janet Cummins!
Everything was very good. The variety of sandwiches and doughnuts was great. The hot tea was also nice. The gluten free blubbery lemon scone was not great. It had no flavor, it was just like a sugar biscuit.
So authentic and yummy!! The servers accent made this place so warm and friendly! So many yummy dishes to choose from. They have gluten free pasta! And save room for dessert!!
My biggest problem is being gluten intolerant so when I go somewhere with menu items labeled as gluten free friendly, I’m really frustrated when I immediately have a reaction to gluten clearly being in that dish.
It tasted good, but it’s overpriced for what you’re getting, and the staff stared at me without acknowledging or helping me. You do the order on a tablet, but I didn’t see that at first so I stood there waiting for her.
I spent $50 on two poke bowls and two waters at a place that isn’t a sit down restaurant. It’s fast casual. It’s overpriced because of the location of their restaurant.
Excellent, creative, flavorful food, beautiful, trendy atmosphere, excellent service, and numerous options for gluten free, dairy free, and vegetarian diners. Pricey, but I suppose everything in the Wharf will set you back, along with the parking!
Had a great dinner with the restaurant week menu last night. The food was delicious! As someone with a gluten allergy, there were many options noted on the menu. It was nice to sit at the outside high tops and people watch too!
I got the avocado bacon burger and it was delicious 😋. My friend got a gluten free burger and also liked it, in particular the gluten free bun was very good, above average.
The food was made quickly, the bathrooms were nice, and they have made the switch to having two gender neutral, single person bathrooms instead of arbitrarily labeling them.
Would recommend for a quick bite to eat down by the wharf.
We are in town from St. Louis visiting my brother. We pre- ordered 2 dozen assorted donuts and in the extra notes asked for an additional GF donut and 2 coffees. The donuts were ready when we arrived, and the staff was super friendly and accommodating.
The gluten free donut was good, but not my favorite gluten free donut ever. I always appreciate stores that offer gluten free, however, so thank you District Doughnut. We had a great experience!
