Staff were excellent about our allergies: I'm coeliac and my wife's allergic to sulphites so eating out is a challenge. Staff were genuinely really accommodating and forthcoming, which was lovely and very much appreciated; the food was very tasty, too.
I had a fantastic dining experience at Ask Italian! Their gluten-free and vegan pizza was a delightful surprise, with a crispy crust and generous, flavourful toppings. It was clear they take dietary preferences seriously without compromising on taste. The service was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. A great spot for anyone with specific dietary needs or just looking for a delicious pizza!
As a coeliac, I have to be very confident that a restaurant understands the need to not only provide me with gluten free food, but also that they have understood the risk of cross contamination to me. I emailed the restaurant in advance and they took my concerns extremely seriously. The Manager personally spoke to the team to ensure they could cater for me and then processed my order directly keeping me updated via email. On the day of the delivery, I was telephoned in advance to reassure me that the delivery had been prepared safely. And my goodness, when it arrived it was absolutely delicious! As a coeliac it is hard to be confident eating out, but it was wonderful to have my concerns taken extremely seriously and I was perfectly ok after eating. Thank you to all the team, you made my evening!
I have a gluten allergy and find it incredibly hard to eat out most of the time. Cat was my waitress today. She was incredibly helpful with the allergen menu. I was a bit worried about the crackers as majority of the time they do contain gluten. This time however they were gluten free! I didn't eat the crackers and opted out asked not to have them, as im always a bit sceptical. Great choice of gluten free options and the waitress was beyond amazing! Thankyou esecially for helping me with my allergies and thankyou for accommodating our party of 7! We don't get out much. The service I received today was amazing 👏 🙌 ☺️
Had a lovely meal with friends last night. Although very busy, the service was good and extra attention was given to the guest at our table who is celiac. Food was very good. Only criticism is that there are no gluten free beers/lagers on the drinks menu which considering there were many GF items on the food menu seemed counter intuitive. Hopefully this will be addressed so that we will be able to dine here with our friends again.
We had a lovely lunch at The Lion Inn. Great gluten and dairy free options that are clearly shown on the menu. Servers were very friendly and accommodating to food requests.
I recently had lunch at The Angle Pub and had a fantastic experience. The meal was absolutely delicious, and I was pleased to find a great selection available, even though I am gluten and lactose intolerant. What made the experience even better was the outstanding service from Laura. She was attentive, friendly, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Thank you, Laura!
Food was very nice, very good for gluten free and also allergies. Our server Megan was brilliant, very helpful and also welcoming. Highly recommend eating here as great value, great food and also helpful.
I’m a coeliac and I had a really delicious meal. It was great to chose something easily instead of risking any contamination. I hadn’t been before but would highly recommend the restaurant with good food, great customer service and colonial decor with not intrusive music. I will definitely go again.
Visited Rok Kitchen in Chelmsford last night with friends. Korean street food that was absolutely delicious!
Eating out when I need to be gluten free and with a husband who is allergic to eggs is often challenging and very limited! I felt so at ease with all the information shared, care and attention! It was an absolute pleasure! I am super sensitive and had no issues 😍
I had every dishes ingredient explained, super careful about cross contamination. Many of the sauces were suitable for me to eat, the Katsu and Angry Chicken wings were divine and the Katsu fries absolutely gorgeous! My husband had a more limited egg free choice but the Bruschetta, ribs and short rib rice salad were delicious. They offered to make egg free chicken if we give them notice of our next visit. Brilliant playlist and a great atmosphere!
Highly recommended for a visit, they are a brilliant family run business in Moulsham Street.
So over priced! For sharing plates they are so tiny yet the same price as a meal!
Not worth the hype or the Instagram pick.
Also awful accommodation for Gluten free - no gluten free soy sauce and no understanding of the allergy!!!
Had a lovely afternoon tea today all delicious, one of our party had gluten free and was delighted to have it on her own tiered cake stand 😁 have regularly had lunch here but first “tea” and not disappointed. As usual high standard of food and friendly service always a pleasure to eat here. Looking forward to my next visit 😋

Noticed the burger and beer offer (Mondays) when walking from the bus. Came back to the Brewhouse for lunch and were glad we did. Welcomed by Lisa, who was very friendly, cheerful and accommodating. Let us taste the beers to make sure we made the right choice. Had cheeseburgers and the vegan burger, with IPA, pilsner and they even had 2 gluten free options for beer. All In all good choice for a day out for family of 5.
Absolutely fantastic experience. I cannot praise this family run business enough. I emailed them and the owner Mila replied straight away . The gluten free options are a game changer. I would highly recommend this fantastic establishment.
Superb food and excellent service.
I whole heartedly recommend eating here if you like Italian food everything is beautifully cooked and looks as good as it tastes. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. It's also a great place for people who need a gluten free menu.
Me and my wife always struggle to eat a quick lunch as she is gluten intolerant, most places are a wrap or sandwich. Popped in first time today (22/06) and had really good GF options, we had chicken topped nachos and a beef bowl, absolutely delicious bowl, fresh and big enough for the price. Definitely be back probably tomorrow as back in Chelmsford.
Had a fabulous time here with our godson today, tried some new dishes inc the cassoulet, all were really good. Especially, though, the service was wonderful from Lilly and our greeter - it made for a super lunch. One of us is a coeliac and she was very well looked after, lots of options, good knowledge and care.
As a Coeliac it is always hard for me to relax when dining out. But it wasn't any stress, everyone I spoke to was already aware of it from when we booked the table and they were confident that they could cater for me safely. The service was brilliant. We had a wicked night, food was superb and the atmosphere was excellent. 100% recommend A Canteen and we look forward to returning soon. Thank you
Really nice restaurant. Well presented. Great food choice. The food is lovely and great presentation. Staff are friendly and helpful with my Gluten dietary needs.
Good place for a city centre cuppa. Offers some gluten free cakes too, which is good - better than Costa or Cafe Nero, for instance. Bit cheeky for their payment system to ask you for a tip though, given that its really only a counter serviced.
Had a lovely afternoon tea with colleagues. Savory and traditional were the main orders but we did order gluten free Celica and vegan too. Good and enough portions were served as per the menu. A variety of tea options were offered. Highly recommended for a quick and quiet afternoon tea.
The first time l've found somewhere do gluten free toast. Small place. Comfy inside. They bother to ask you if you have allergies. Need more of these places. The toast was best it was like eating crusty bread which l miss.
Need dairy free products.
