My wife and I were out in Ocean Side looking for a sit and a sandwich when Rye’s and Grind came up in our search. Even though their menu didn’t explicitly state that they had a gluten free option, we opted to give them a call. The staff informed us they could accommodate my dietary restrictions and would do their best to take extra precautions to prevent cross contamination on their cook top.
My wife ordered a pastrami sandwich while I opted for the Gluten Free Motley Loo. Both sandwiches were extremely well appointed with some of the tastiest pastrami I’ve had this side of the Mississippi.
The staff informed me that though the latkes were made without gluten, their fryers were a cross contamination risk, so their steak fries, tots, latkes, and rosemary home fries would be off limits for me. Thankfully, their coleslaw and potato salad were delightful and rich so I didn’t feel left out of the side order game.
My wife reported her latkes were top notch, and they came with all of the condiments you could possibly want including what tasted like homemade salsas.
On top of the top notch service and food, the coffee was hot, rich, and bold, which is what we needed on a surprisingly rainy day in Southern California.
Everything about my experience with Rye’s and Grind was above and beyond. I cannot commend the staff enough for the compassion, service, and attention the team gave us even at the end of their day.
If you’re thinking about going to Rye’s and Grind but can’t make a decision, just go. The team, food, venue, and coffee were all top notch.
