Visited this store last week on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty quiet, the store itself is pretty small but cute and quaint. The lady in the store was really friendly and to our surprise, said the doughnuts were buy one get one free. We tried the doughnuts a couple hours later and they were so fresh and delicious! Jessie (not sure of the spelling; with the cool dyed red hair) provided excellent service; she was really on it with the allergens, being knowledgable of what alterations can be made to the dishes to make them gluten free for my gluten intolerant sister, making sure to bring out the gluten-free dishes directly to my sister amongst a very big order for a party for 8, and even proactively ensuring the gluten-containing wasabi was not put on the dish, when we didn't even know wasabi wasn't gluten free. Still get a lot of the ultra tourist crowd but also seemed like there was some locals there as well which is a good sign. Wife has celiacs so we went for dinner and drinks. I initially was recommended a “small family-run” cafe to visit, but without a name, I was left guessing which of the hundreds of cafe in Edinburgh it was.
Regardless, I went in out of curiosity. Upon walking down the stairs and entering the venue, a warmth of comfort engulfed me. Both from the atmosphere and the people serving.
For the two times I was there, I got a dish and a drink. The homemade hot chocolate was definitely the one that stood out the most. Just absolutely rich in flavour. Their carrot and cumin soup was also splendid alongside their bread. Definitely a can’t miss when it’s the soup of the day alongside one of the sandwiches.
Definitely a lot of variety of dishes and I appreciate the dietary customisation options such as gluten-free and diary-free alternatives. Decent variety of vegetarian options. I did take notice that a lot of options had avocados. I guess that’s a pretty popular ingredient.

The crab and bread, kingfish and chocolate mousse I couldn’t recommend more - I wasn’t the biggest fan of the salad but probably just because I tend to prefer a less sweet palate. Tried the wine and ‘snake tree’ cocktail: both delicious. And the most important thing to note - great place to come for coeliacs and gluten intolerances as they have a whole separate menu and did not react to any cross contamination so know they take it seriously.
