My husband and I went here because we were in the area and saw that it had good reviews. I am gluten free (coeliac). The menu was clearly labelled and almost the whole menu was gluten free, including unique options like fried chicken and onion bahji.
They were very friendly and welcoming. They also seemed very mindful of dietary requirements, including cross-contamination.
We had the cassava fries, 31 masala chicken curry, goat curry and paneer saagwala. Everything was delicious and flavourful. I would especially recommend the goat curry.
Thank you for a lovely meal!!

Amazing service from Jess. She took great care of our table tonight and was very careful about our coeliac needs and allergies. Thank you so much Jess for the great energy and care.
Also thank you to the kitchen for the delicious food

The Big Breakfast was big, the long black was delicious, the staff were friendly with a smile and a quip whilst still professional. I can't understand the poor reviews. Our meal arrived in good time - it was obviously freshly cooked. I asked for GF, and nothing was too much trouble. They swopped out my sausage for halloumi, and they hid a tasty tomato under the bacon. Best bit - the potato rosti/hash brown. Beautifully seasoned. There was a whole shelf of gluten-free sweet treats, 7 options! If only I'd had room after breakfast.
Enjoy stunning lakeside views and a cozy atmosphere while indulging in a variety of delicious meals perfect for all tastes.

Great view and service, good sandwiches at lunchtime. The glutenfree hamburger bun was one of the best we've encountered. Celiac friendly, dedicated fryer.

My review is focusing on the set menu, but I was wanted to preface this by saying that this place is always nice, and always quite gluten-friendly.
We came here for the set menu on New Years as a group of four and it was absolutely phenomenal. Unfortunately for us, though every item was delicious, the greatest hits were the items that aren't normally on the menu (I loooooved the beef tataki so much that we asked for more). No need to be scared or worried about there only being one option for the set menu, because every option was stunning. And I'm saying that as a relatively fussy eater.
The staff were generally amazing, but something that stood out to me is how accommodating the staff were when it came to our celiac friend. In spite of it being a set menu, they managed to ensure that she had gluten-fres options, especially when it came to dessert and we finally got served our food separately. Would highly recommend for anyone that can't eat gluten, as we frequently come herd with that friend for the normal menu, as there are plenty of options to choose from.
One thing to note about Mekong Baby is that it is more on the expensive side, but I wholeheartedly believe that it is worth it for the food and service.

Loved this place, inside is so beautiful, the staff member I spoke to was so friendly and the pizza was delicious. I went to so many places in Wanaka looking for somewhere that could do a gluten free pizza that was coeliac safe and I finally found it here. Pizza base was so crispy, the pizza was amazing and I'm definitely going back next time!

Went here for mums birthday lunch, everyone's food came out luke warm. My pizza was lacking flavour, it was the tofu one. It was very bland. The calamari my sister got the gluten free version and it was small for the price and lacking flavour. Mums seafood chowder was yummy but not hot and someone else got a cherizo breakfast special that was great value and yummy. They have a huge menu with heaps of gluten free options which is great. The waitress was lovely and very tentative to our table. Would probably go back but would ask for the meal to be hot and wouldn't get a gf pizza!

For a colleagues farewell we had a group of 12 on a Wednesday evening from 6pm. They accommodated us with two booth type tables and it was very comfortable.
One diner is coeliac and when the order had a gluten item, staff didn't make a fuss when it was sent back politely. So that's really nice.
Service was friendly and efficient, clearing our table quickly and checking for drink or food orders often.
It wasn't too busy, nor too loud and the atmosphere was cosy. Paying at the end was simple and efficient, they operate their cashier system well.
All told for a large group dining experience I thought it was successful and staff did a great job. Thanks for a great night team.

It’s always difficult eating out when gluten free but there’s so many GF options!!! The girl working out the front really sold it to us! Platter was awesome but make sure to starve yourself before going as it’s a huge portion! Ha!

We came for a team dinner. There were 7 of us. We highly rated the organic chicken and short rib. They were just delicious.
One of our team members is a celiac and had a reaction from the chicken dish. Although she had specified that she was a celiac at the time of ordering, and asked the server delivering her meal to make sure, she was still "glutened". Unsure what went wrong there, but Giraffe may need to assess their processes when handling gluten.

The vegan salad was delicious and didn't need the haloumi I added. It was healthy, satisfying, and would have been great on its own. The salted caramel almond slice was also good, and it was gluten-free, vegan, and refined sugar-free. The lemon honey was amazing, especially since I asked for a super strong one and got extra lemon honey ginger syrup and hot water. The staff was friendly. I also found a nice treat for myself at the crystal shop nearby that closes at 1pm.

Incredible lunch, could not fault it. The food and service were the highlights for sure but the atmosphere and decor were great too. Every single dish we ordered was delicious, the Pacifica Ceviche was the highlight. The menu sounded really interesting and delicious and it lived up to those expectations. The menu was very clear on what was vegetarian, vegan, dairy free and gluten free. The service from the whole team was great, attentive and informative, especially from our main server Olivia. She was really friendly and professional but still felt like being served by a friend which is exactly what I enjoy about nz hospo. The level of service from each team member was fantastic and I wish them all the best over this crazy season

The pizzas are great size and value for money. The kids pasta with ragout sauce is like nonna style, beautiful made and exceptionally tasty. We order a portion of chips as well, but we didn't specified gluten free as we did with the rest of the order, so the chef attentively came to us and point out that the chips may contains gluten in the preparation, so we avoid it. Thank you Chef!! Excellent team and service!

Visited Hideaway for a bottomless with the girls for my birthday and absolutely loved it!! The food was amazing and the drinks were top notch! All of us left feeling very full either with drinks (wine, prosseco, cider or mimosas) or food! Very conscious of any dietary requirements and were able to adapt food where need - great for gluten free and vege/vegan! Food was delicious and drinks were plenty strong which made the bottomless all the more worth it! Can’t forget to mention lil buddy Jax who was nothing short of a friendly face to everyone! 10/10 would recommend to friends and come back - even just for a drink on a night out! The location is a bit hidden but still easy to locate and find our way in with plenty of signage on the main road!

Me and my partner went here and had lunch on the balcony, absolutely delicious food, albeit smaller portions - but filling. My partner is celiac, so we went for the Gluten Free options as the dishes are made to be shared. We ordered the Thai Black Beef Salad & the Chicken Skewers... no problems, chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce was unparalleled. Beef had a little bit of gristle but overall was very tender & flavourful.
Will definitely recommend & visit again.

Very good experience at Charlotte’s kitchen. Staff were friendly, atmosphere was great (but very busy) and the food came out fast and was delicious. Highly recommend getting at least one pizza!
The best thing is that they take food allergies seriously. The menu is labeled (eg gluten free, dairy free, vegan etc) so you know what’s what. And the staff always ask the kitchen if you have any further questions.

We went there for an afternoon drink during Art Deco weekend, and then for dinner on the Sunday night. The food was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly young Nova(?) who served us for dinner. Around $30 for a really nice fish of the day. Our gluten free requirements weren't a problem, and we'll definitely return next time we're in Napier.
Unfortunately, my first experience at Iguana was quite disappointing. Different staff were saying different things regarding food with dietary requirements. After making it very clear that she was gluten free and dairy free, they brought her a dish that contained gluten. After a short while they came rushing back, but some of the food had already been eaten.
A couple weeks later (today), I phoned and asked if they were doing takeaways. A staff member assured me that I could order food and takeaway (as they were fully booked). 30 minutes later, I phoned again to order and another person said that they weren’t doing takeaways. The manager wouldn’t speak with me over the phone and eventually the staff member said, “sorry there was a misunderstanding, it’s too busy to do takeaways”.
It’s a shame that their ribs are actually really good, but their service is quite poor.
Accommodating vibe perfect for a late meal, with standout pizzas and a cozy spot for post-movie hangouts.

A Fantastic Dining Experience at Casta Publica – Valentine’s Day Perfection!
I had the pleasure of dining at Casta Publica for their special six-course tasting menu on Valentine’s Day, and I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism, setting the tone for a perfect evening.
The ambiance was elegant yet inviting, creating a romantic atmosphere that was ideal for the occasion. The attention to detail in both the décor and service was noticeable, making us feel truly valued as guests.
One of the standout aspects of the evening was their exceptional commitment to catering to dietary requirements. My partner has gluten-free and dairy-free dietary needs, and it can often be challenging to find restaurants that accommodate with care and creativity. However, at Casta Publica, they went above and beyond to ensure she had an equally enjoyable experience. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, with substitutions that didn’t compromise on flavor or presentation. It was clear that the chefs put in the effort to craft a menu that was both inclusive and delicious.
As for the food itself – simply amazing. Each course of the tasting menu was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The balance of textures and ingredients showcased the skill of the culinary team, making every bite a delight. From the starters to the final dessert, we were consistently impressed by the creativity and execution of each dish.
The cocktails and mocktails were equally outstanding! The mixologists clearly know their craft, as every drink was expertly balanced, refreshing, and beautifully presented. Whether you enjoy a classic cocktail or a well-crafted non-alcoholic option, there’s something for everyone. Each sip complemented the meal perfectly, adding to the overall experience.
The service was another highlight of the evening. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu, offering insightful descriptions of each course and pairing suggestions. They were attentive without being intrusive, ensuring we had everything we needed while allowing us to fully enjoy our meal and conversation.
Overall, Casta Publica exceeded our expectations in every way. Whether you’re looking for a romantic evening, a special celebration, or just an exceptional meal, this place is a must-visit. We left feeling satisfied, impressed, and already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend!

Wow, just …..wow. We are from Wellington and thought we would pop up to Palmerston North to see our son on a course. We had numerous recommendations for this place let’s give it a go. From the awesome conversation we had with the reservation person to the wonderful welcome and staff. The night was such a success. Actually worth the 3 hr round trip from Wellington. Ohhhhh the food…. Well I love to say the pasta was loved, the gluten free burger was one of the best my wife has ever had and the meet tray my son and I shared was almost too big….almost, but if i did say all that then maybe next time I went there it would be too busy and we would miss out. Oh my goodness..... what a meal! Started with some edamame beans with a garlic twist..... being gluten free, there were only two things on the menu for a main. Not feeling like sashimi, we had the lamb..... exploding with a flavour punch and falling apart with tenderness..... holy crap the meal ended too soon..... so we asked about a gluten free dessert, not disappointed at all!..... the chocolate miso delice was to die for..... the chefs, wait staff and bar persons have truly given us a meal and drinkies to remember..... thank you for your hard work and service for your customers......
