Its typically very hard to find a place for a vegan and gluten free friends to eat, but Vegitalian had offerings for both. I had the most delicious gluten free Caesar's salad and my friend had a vegan pizza that he said was delicious. This was our first time visiting Rotterdam and I said I had to come back just to visit this restaurant again, it was great.
The restaurant was pretty busy though so we ate at the bar. I definitely recommend booking a head of time if you'd like a table.

And I'd recommend paying those 5€ so you can pick whatever from the menu. Everything tastes great, good to have the started with nachos and guacamole, and pick a main dish, chicken wings or pulled pork - they are all amazing. Very tasty and if you like a little smokey BBQ spicy flavor you can ask for a spicy sauce that you can add to your rice.
From the desserts both the gluten free option as well as the coconut ice cream (if you are not gluten free) are amazing picks, highly recommend both.

We were staying close by so decided to visit the old harbour area on the first evening. It was pretty busy and as we only wanted a drink and a dessert we wandered around enjoying the atmosphere.
A waiter from Matelief asked if he could help and we were shown inside which was lovely and cool and also smoke free. We had a great view without being surrounded by other diners.
We opted for decaf coffee and desserts: one enormous portion of a very tasty Dutch apple pie and a silky smooth piece of gluten free chocolate tart, both decorated with a couple of fresh raspberries.
Can’t believe that I didn’t take photos of our desserts!
Most people were sitting outside so it was relatively quiet inside with just background music playing.
The staff were all lovely- friendly and smiling.
It is definitely somewhere that I would like to visit again.

We ate together with our friends from Drenthe. Unfortunately it was very busy on Saturday and we sat at the table for more than 3.5 hours and only received food twice... this was a shame because our friends still had to go back to Drenthe so we went home hungry. Last Saturday I had a high tea with friends and family for my 50th birthday. Because of one friend who absolutely cannot eat gluten, I made a reservation with NY because of the good, reliable name. This friend became terribly ill due to cross-contamination. In addition, the ordering of drinks was very poorly organized. We got cappuccino in a thermos. We had never seen this before! Then it is no longer cappuccino. Hotel New York should be deeply ashamed of putting this on the table! The tea had to be ordered per cup, which resulted in a long wait for a drink. I left the table at least 3 times to indicate that an order had already been waiting for more than 10 minutes.
It was very disappointing for me as it was quite an expense to organize this high tea and then the organization of Hotel New York is so poor. Finally, I am still waiting for the refund because there were fewer people than paid for.
I always enjoyed coming to you both privately and for work, but I'm done with it now!
