I have been an Ursula evangelist since they opened. At this expanded location on Nostrand, I am even more so. The breakfast burritos have always been incredible, and now with an expanded brunch, lunch and dinner menu, you get the best of New Mexican cuisine with an amazing atmosphere and staff. The food is consistently creative and delicious. As someone who is gluten free, I can eat the majority of this menu with reckless abandon (even the desserts!!). So many great vegan and vegetarian options too. The food is also great as take out. This is the perfect spot for a fun dinner with friends or a cute date night. Can’t recommend Ursula’s enough!
Had the amazing -- and inexpensive !! salmon tacos here, served on (handmade?) delicious corn tortillas 😋 which are very much appreciated by this gluten-allergic customer! Wow, the raw tuna ones sounded delicious as well -- love the Japo/Mexi melting pot that is this place!
Awesome service and awesome empanadas! Great option if you’re gluten free. They have a back room to reserve for bigger groups too! So glad they opened one closer to home.
I came here on a recommendation from a local barista who raved about The Fly and here. i wanted to like it more, but the experience as someone who couldn't have gluten was lacking. I opted for two smaller dishes because the only main dish option would have been a whole fish and some ramps. I wanted a bit more variety, so I got the Louisiana prawns w/capers (hot) and asparagus & mortadella (cold). The prawns came out first, and the asparagus arrived when I was about halfway through. They were both tasty and balanced dishes, but I was disappointed because I had no way to enjoy the garlic-y buttery broth from the prawns or the flavorful dressing on the asparagus because there was no gluten-free bread. The folks seated next to me were digging into their small plates with hulks of delicious looking bread. I felt like i missed out on a major part of the experience of the dish. My server could have done a better job of recommending dishes. I'd give this place another chance if I were with a friend and could justify trying more dishes.
The staff is knowledgeable and thorough with allergies. The person asked detailed questions and was very attentive and thoughtful. The fries are in a shared fryer but the gluten free pasta (made in house - rabbit raghu) is absolutely delicious.
The first time I had it I got sick but almost didn’t care because it was that good. The second time I ordered it they asked me if it could be cooked in the same water as the glutinous pasta. I suspect that’s what went wrong the first time.
While there is absolutely a risk for cross-contamination, I still say this restaurant is overall safe for gluten-free because the staffs willingness to help navigate the menu and make recommendations.
