As a vegetarian visiting St. John's I was bit concerned about food selections for myself but Nook and Cannery was such a delight. The vibes were immaculate and the food was incredible. They offer many ways to adjust meals to suit vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free folks. My favourite meal during my trip!
This spot offers a unique seafood experience with a vibrant atmosphere, a dedicated fryer for special needs, and delicious dishes that impress everyone.

A MUST for anyone needing gluten-free options. With a dedicated gluten free deep fryer, we ordered GF seafood platter (with the best scallops and shrimp I've ever eaten in my life), GF fish and chips for my daughter (a huge piece of cod!), and started with GF deep fried calamari as well as an order of possibly the only GF crispy cod tongues in the province if not the country! With all of that plus a GF beer that I'd never tried before, Port Rexton Raspberry Sour (something that did not sound tempting but it was actually delicious, more beer-y than fruity), I'm surprised my family didn't have to roll me all the way home! STRONGLY recommended! 👍👍 But make sure you call to make reservations... We got turned away the first time we tried to go. 🤷♂️
Expect an unforgettable pizza experience with a unique BBQ sauce base and a lively atmosphere that keeps everyone coming back for more.

Best Gluten Free Pizza in Canada! I've been to nearly every province in Canada and this was by far the most unique pizza, good size for GF, bbq sauce base, chicken with hot honey sauce! Great atmosphere, friendly service.

Mitch was our server and he was amazing! Great recommendations and just an all around nice guy.
Food here is amazing. If you’re gluten free they have one of the best gluten free crusts around.
Def come here. Prices are more than fair.
Chill vibes meet cozy seating in this quaint spot, where healthy options and flavorful vegan dishes delight all who visit.

Such a quaint and quiet restaurant. Beautiful, calming decor. Relaxing atmosphere. Wonderful service from the staff, easy to follow direction for ordering. Tasty food, I had the gluten free pad Thai (indeed spicy friendly because I cannot tolerate spice and this dish was perfect). Absolutely would recommend!
Expect a lively atmosphere with generous portions, quick service, and a diverse menu that truly represents the local vibe.

Had breakfast here twice during our week in St. John's, and it was worth it! So many options, and the fact that they can serve most options gluten-free (i.e. on a gluten-free bagel) was great. Unfortunately, they do not have a dedicated deep-fryer, so I wasn't able to get any of the unhealthy stuff that everyone else had, but that's okay...I appreciated the fruit substitution for the hash browns!
Famous for its remarkable deep-fried options and unique homemade cider, this spot is a hit but be ready for a bit of a wait!

As a celiac, I get excited about deep-fried things that I can have. The gluten-free Salt-n-vinegar fish n chips were outstanding! I 100% recommend. And the Fries were cooked to perfection. I was very happy with this meal. (I can't recall, so I'm not sure if they have a dedicated fryer. I tend to have mild to unnoticeable reactions to shared fryers though. Or maybe I'm just stubborn.)
I also wanted to try the iceberg cider that they brew there, but unfortunately they were all out. (I eventually found one can at a liquor store, and it was good.)
They were fairly busy, so the service was alright, but that's to be expected.
A go-to spot for unique seasonal drinks and a huge variety, perfect for a refreshing break while in town.

I go here everytime I'm in town, which is a couple times a month for work, and I've never had a bad drink here. There's a huge variety of drinks hot and cold and they always have interesting seasonal drinks as well. I always get a sandwich with a gluten free bun when I'm here, my favourites are the pesto chicken and the cran-apple chicken sandwiches, the gluten free bun is very good, and doesn't fall apart like other gf breads tend to.
With a cozy deli vibe and a unique selection of cheeses, expect a pleasant but slightly chaotic experience when visiting.

I do enjoy the deli environment but the layout here is absymal and it's never straightforward to order deli items and or pay for them.
The gluten free rice Kaiser is decent but a bit crumbly so plan accordingly. Dining in at a table is very pleasant if available.
My favourite sandwich is the curry chicken salad. Get the olives, carrots and pickles on the side.
The modest selection of cheeses is decadent. I look forward to bringing a wedge or two home.
Do not visit this place if you are in a rush. But overall, it is worth the bit of chaos.
Chill vibes with live music, unique drink combos, and a menu packed with standout offerings make this spot a must-visit for a fun night out.

Great food and beer. Especially enjoyed tuna tartar and gluten free codfish tacos. Yup, gluten free. The Coffee Blonde was very good. The only downsides were the service was a little slow and they ran outta oysters.
Eating at this restaurant was the best dining experience I've had in St John's. The food is good, the price is good, and the service was exceptional. Very highly recommend for gluten free eaters.
I haven’t had that good of a ramen in a while! The veggies were fresh, the miso broth (which they make themselves!) super tasty, the portion was generous... AND they have gluten-free noodles folks!!! 🤩 Don’t know about you, but I’ll definitely visit this place again!
With a stunning harbor view, this spot offers quick service and a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a delightful meal while exploring.

Located close to the harbour allowing for a nice view, this restaurant serves nice food. They offer vegetarian options and Gluten-free ones (GF on request). You won't have to wait long for your food and get a free miso soup while waiting. It's a nice place to eat while exploring St. John's.
Went to this place on Saturday for some later eats. Extremely impressed with the entertainment, service, and food. I did not eat a lot, I do like that they have a lot of gluten free options. The atmosphere here is fun and inviting. Definitely recommend for late eats and entertainment.
A cozy spot with a creative menu invites all; perfect for family outings or date nights, and the atmosphere is always on point.

We had an excellent meal at Pi. The service by Hanya was great. The gluten free crust was unique and clearly made from scratch. It was quite good. Unique pizzas in a place with a great vibe.
There's a gluten free version of most everything on the menu. Penne as a gf pasta, all of their sauces are gf, and most of their toppings. It's very good to not feel limited for choices.
Excellent music by Ron Kelly, great menu options and service on a Friday night in May. Consistent friendly welcome from Chico when he only sees us from out of town a few times a year. Food was delicious. Scallops, spinach salad and fish and chips with sweet potato fries. 3 salad options, lots of fish and shellfish and gluten free options on dinner menu.
Great service and prices. Huge gluten free selection offered and were extremely careful in every step to make sure my food was safe from the others. Even bagged my to-go bag first so that we wouldn't mix them up at the table. Will go back for sure
Excellent products, great service. We call in our order in the morning and pick up in the evening. Gluten free bread is great. Vegan brownies are awesome. Highly recommend it!
I haven't even ate the food yet but I just wanted to leave a comment about the customer service. I have celiac disease so I called to ask about their gluten free options. I spoke to Nicki who I have to say was more than helpful. She told me they have a fryer that is designated for gluten sensitivity and talked me through some of their options. She was super friendly and understanding and gave me her name so when I called back to place my order I could talk to her. When I got off the phone I honestly felt like I had just finished talking to a friend. I have never had such exceptional service, especially when it comes to ordering gluten free. Probably the best service I've had ever. Thank you Nicki for your help and understanding, it was greatly appreciated and you definitely deserve a raise for incredible service!!
Usually the service is great.I have celeacs disease and I'm not able to get anything from a fast food restaurant but subway serves gluten free selections.which is great for me
Expect a top-notch pick-up and delivery spot with a focus on health-conscious options and delicious choices that'll make you keep coming back!

A must-stop for a casual breakfast or lunch when in St. John's. Don't pass on trying the delicious fish cakes. While I prefer mustard pickles with mine, the tartar sauce was tasty. I also tried the schnecke - croissant pastry with coconut, honey, and lemon curd. Quite sweet and sticky, but great with a cup of coffee. There are so many delicious-looking baked goods, salads, and more at Rocket Bakery - Water Street. The cafe is eclectic Newfoundland, fun and friendly. Lots of seating on a weekday morning. Friendly staff, too. There's an all-day menu, a vegan lunch menu, and a gluten-free menu to help you choose. I go every time I'm in town.
P.S. If you're watching the latest season of Reacher on Amazon Prime, you will recognize the filming location on Water Street. 😃

We love going to Jack Astor's. There's something for everyone from our picky eater, to our vegetarian to our celiac. Candace is the best but I might be biased!

Staff were prompt, engaging and friendly. Great, affordable take away pizza with lots of options. On this occasion, we needed a gluten-free (GF) option and the GF BBQ chicken was great. Not all pizza places around do GF so this was great.
This charming spot offers a delightful vibe with standout dishes like a must-try burger and unforgettable bacon-wrapped scallops that wow diners.

Lovely restaurant with a delicious gluten-free burger (the Amelia burger, with a GF bun) and the best bacon-wrapped scallops (also gluten free) I've ever had. The server (Kim) was very helpful and seemed knowledgeable about celiac and concerns about the potential risk of cross-contamination with wheat flour. Strongly recommended! 👍👍🍔 🤤

Had seafood & vegetable tempura, seasonal nigiri & sushi assortment, Spanish wine and blueberry mojito at Basho. Everything was quite nice, particularly nigiri and the blueberry mojito. Their sushi rolls were good but I have had better at another restaurant in the Avalon area. A friend who had surf n’ turf & pan seared seasonal white fish confirmed that they were both great. (They looked great too).
A good thing about Basho is that you can get gluten free appetisers, mains and desserts.
Ambiance of the restaurant is amiable and the staff is not bad either.
