Coeliac Review: The GFC nuggets are AMAZING. The fries are also GF and so good. Only downside is they shut their toilets around 18:30pm which is annoying if you’re eating in.

Great experience! We had the American pizza with pepperoni and it was absolutely delicious – thin crust, tasty ingredients, and perfectly cooked. I can’t eat gluten, and the staff were super friendly and helpful, adapting the whole menu for me. I had a starter, pizza, and dessert, all gluten-free and all amazing. Highly recommended, especially for coeliacs or anyone with dietary needs. Will definitely be back!

Super cute board game cafe near Kew Garden! Huge selection of thoughtfully sorted board games (number of players, difficulty, style, and tone). Extensive menu that's clearly labeled for gluten free/veg/etc. The proprietor was incredibly helpful and very aware of allergies, including awareness of gluten in a condiment! Also helpfully explained rules to us for a new game. Cannot recommend more!

An absolute gem of a place. About 10 mins walk from Kew Gardens. I have to eat gluten free for medical reasons and the staff were amazing at making sure i had an enjoyable tasty meal. Thank you to everyone, front of house and in the kitchen. Fantastic meal followed by a walk round the Christmas lights at Kew. A perfect evening. 💕

No flexibility on menu, no Gluten free options, pretty dreadful really. Pretty awful service culture issue in the Gardens as a whole. Having a nice terrace with a good view and good interior is no substitute for professional catering

We chose the Shaftsbury for our daughters 18th birthday celebration. The staff were welcoming and accommodated our party beautifully. Top marks to the chef, our food was enjoyed by all and not a scrap left on the plates. We ordered the meat burger, plant burger and the gluten free fish and chips which looked delicious and thought I had made the wrong choice, but so pleased with my plant burger. Yum, Yum , yum. Thank you Shaftsbury team....you did it again!

The food is absolutely amazing!! I just warn anyone gluten free to not risk it. I went for my birthday and told my server before each dish I had an allergy, and was told it was fine, but by desert, I was served a dish I was told was gluten free and when I was finishing eating it they ran over to tell me it had cookie crumbs on it, which has looked like almond crumbs because there were pieces of almond so I didn’t think anything of it because again I was told it was gluten free before I started eating..I had a stomach ache all evening which wasn’t ideal especially on my birthday. I would stay away if you are quite allergic. Besides the lacking in allergy training, the food was great, but I would just be cautious if you have an allergy. For management: please you should have an allergen binder and training for your staff if you are going to claim safe for allergies. There were items labeled gluten free on the menu, like poppadoms, that when I tried to order the staff said they sometimes have gluten, those should not be labeled gluten free. The ice cream I ordered which had cookies on it, was labeled gluten free on the menus and the server said it was fine, but the desert chef did not know what gluten free meant. There needs to be better training or don’t say you are safe for people with allergies. Also some of the plates were chipped which is not what you would expect from a high end restaurant.

The staff were incredibly attentive throughout our visit, anticipating our needs and ensuring everything was perfect. The food was simply fantastic. We started with the artichoke soup and tempura prawns, both of which were beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. For mains, we tried a selection of Sunday roasts—both the beef and pork were cooked to perfection, tender and rich, with all the classic trimmings. Every bite was delicious and comforting, exactly what you’d hope for in a traditional British roast. The whole experience was seamless and enjoyable. Whether you’re after a special occasion or just a lovely Sunday meal, the Britannia truly knows how to make a lunch memorable. Highly recommended! * * * * * P.S. Two members of our party required gluten-free options, and the Britannia wonderfully accommodated their needs. The gluten-free dishes were equally delightful, showcasing the kitchen's versatility and commitment to all guests. P.P.S. The icing on the cake (!) was the surprise birthday candle presented with our pudding and coffee. It was a thoughtful touch that made our celebration even more special.
