The service here is incredible and the staff are very knowledgeable on gluten free meals and how they adapt their menu to fit GF needs. If we were staying longer I’d be back here for breakfast again!
The food is incredible, you can tell they are Italian. They have gluten-free pasta options although there isn't much to choose from. It comes in a VERY small quantity for the price, but it is very very delicious for a treat-meal.
We had an amazing experience here. My sister is vegetarian and I wanted to give her a fine dining experience with vegetarian cuisine and this place delivered! The service was fast and very friendly. The food was fresh, delicious, and so great for the value! Also plenty of gluten free options for those with an intolerance like myself!

Howie's is an excellent choice for modern Scottish cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere without the hustle and bustle of the pun. Its dishes stand out for their flavor and presentation: from haggis to fresh fish, game meats, and traditional soups or the soup of the day. The restaurant has two main locations in Edinburgh: one on Victoria Street, more intimate and with historic charm, and another opposite a cemetery very close to the climb to Canton Hill.
The service is attentive and efficient, and the menu includes vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, as well as a good selection of wines and whiskeys. They also have clean bathrooms.
Improvements: The Victoria Street location has small spaces, with limited access for people with reduced mobility. In both cases, it's advisable to book or arrive very early.
In short, a highly recommended place for a tasty Scottish experience with good value.
All celiac. Food was fabulous. Had chicken and paneer pakora with mint, Punjabi, and mango chilli sauce. Also lentil coriander dhal with rice and chips and cheese. For 3 of us had next day leftovers. Matthew took great care of us.

Lots of vegan, vegetarian, gluten free options marked in the menu. There were 4 people waiting for tables when we arrived, and we still were seated in 5mins. Pizza and salad combo makes a perfect light meal. Salad was as basic as it gets, but fine. Pizza was better than I expected - thin crust, well dressed.
Very tasty food, also a special menu for gluten-free dishes. The friendly staff pointed out possible cross-contamination due to the small kitchen. Highly recommended.
Used Vittoria many times over the years in both locations. Enjoyed it every time but sadly today was well below previous standards.
We asked about gluten free for the starters as there was gluten free bread available and a quite a few of the starters were something with garlic bread so could they swap it. Told no the chef would t cut a slice just for that. Really poor standard. Why offer pizza and pasta gluten free mains but do nothing for starters and also dessert. You’ll find it’s either sorbet or gelato.
Meatball starter I was excited for but instead of the one large Polpette you used to get it was four small very average meatballs.
One main course was good the seafood tagliatelle is recommend that, the rucola salad side was a bit tiny for the price.
The other main course chicken and spinach risotto was another very average dish. This was a go to in the past and was much better on previous visits.
The raspberry sorbet dessert was nice after we had to remind them it was to come with a berry compote which they corrected to be fair.
Overall sadly very average for what used to be a highlight for Edinburgh.
This meal was soooo delicious! I had the traditional haggis, with neeps and tatties, adapted for gluten and dairy free. The staff was very knowledgeable in allergens and it was easy to order. The haggis was absolutely delicious. I had the whisky and mustard sauce, which added a different flavors to it. It was also delicious without the sauce. I would definitely come back again next time I'm in Edinburgh!
I chose this place for lunch with my family as I had read the amazing reviews (especially about their accommodations for gluten allergies). Most of our group ordered the lunch special, and all of our food was amazing! We especially enjoyed the crispy fries.
The atmosphere, decor, and music were great, and the attention to detail was clear, even during the somewhat spooky trek to the basement washrooms.
I highly recommend this place for a delicious meal 😋
We came here as part of a hen do and it was absolutely fantastic. The service was really great and they were really good at considering dietary requirements and there were great gluten free options. The food was delicious. We had tapas and a paella which we shared between us all and it was delicious and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend!

Adapted gluten-free breakfasts, without contamination. They give you gluten-free bread if you want and the menu says what does NOT contain gluten. Celiacs, you can have breakfast in peace, my celiac wife was not contaminated.
Yummy lentil and lime soup. Vegan and gluten free! Took it to go since they were about to close and found a spot up the street to enjoy, Middle Meadow Walk.
Worst experience in a Pizza Hut in my entire life. I love pizza Hut, there is none in my city so when I travel I always try to find a Pizza Hut to eat. I ordered one chicken pizza. It was not good at all, I had to take literally all chicken pieces out of the pizza and still couldn’t eat all. My husband ordered a gluten free pizza, it was as bad as mine. The worst part is that we have paid around £17 in each pizza. The staff was super friendly though. Anyway do not recommend chicken pizza neither the gluten free one.
Went with my mum and aunt, mum is coeliac. Both rated their food 10/10 (and are usually a little fussy). My burger was great, chips fluffy and generous portions. Beef burger slightly pink and tender, gluten free fish and chips crumbed batter lovely and crisp. Service very friendly and warm.
Great find for vegans and gluten free!
If you're seeking a tropical escape in Edinburgh, Paradise Palms is the place to be! This quirky gem bursts with vibrant decor and a lively atmosphere that lifts your spirits from the moment you step inside.
Their cocktail menu is a delight! But the food menu is the star of the show!
bursting with flavor and creativity—and you'll be in food heaven. Plus, SO MANY the gluten-free options! THANK YOU!
The staff are amazing. Friendly and enthusiastic!
In short, Paradise Palms is a must-visit for great cocktails, delicious vegan cuisine, and a quirky vibe that guarantees a good time! 🌴🍹✨
Went for just a light dinner and had the vegetarian/vegan pakora and bhindi bhaji which very really delicious!! (Also made with gram flour in case you want a gluten-free dish). The staff was very lovely, we had a great time. Thank you!

Really disappointing experience. Made a booking for a large group for dinner and drinks. Limited space available despite communicating the group size. Very poor service. Lots of miscommunication from the servers, some saying we can order food from the restaurant and bar and some only saying bar. GF guest told they were out of all snacks and that they don’t do gluten free options only to be then told if you come back in 5-10 we may be able to help you.
Long waits for drinks and probably the worst expresso martini. Do not recommend.
Fresh and delicious sushi.
Very kind staff and super attentive to allergies.
Allergens are clearly indicated on the products, ideal for those intolerant to gluten and lactose.
Had a very bad experience at The Outsider this week. Booked a table for my boyfriend and myself for his 30th birthday celebrations. Booked the table for 7:30, arrived on time and didn't get seated at our table which wasn't ready for us until 7:40. We were offered a complimentary glass of prosecco as an apology which was kind of them, however I was driving. It then took around 25 minutes for someone to come and take our order, I'm gluten intolerant and no one asked about allergies or intolerances. We then sat for about 55 minutes with no food and no questions to ask if we were okay or explain where our food was. Eventually the waitress who took our order came to our table at 9pm to ask if we had had our starter and ready for our main.. at this point I explained we hadn't had any food at all.. an hour and a half after our table booking. She apologised and told us she'd been told we had been given our starter, we were then given a bowl of olives to eat while we continued to wait.. Major communication slip up. It still took 25 minutes for our starter to arrive and we eventually finished our meal at around 10pm. The waitress was very apologetic and we got our meal complimentary as an apology, however I still don't think this makes the situation any better, we were left sitting for ages with no attention, the waitresses were all rushed off their feet as it was so noisy and busy so I don't think they even noticed our table. Overall it just ended up being a very poor ans frustrating experience to end what had been a lovely day celebrating my boyfriends birthday. The one star is because when we eventually received it, the food was good!
We had a lovely, delicious brunch here! Staff were very friendly and accommodating when I asked for gluten free options. Thank you so much for a lovely meal!
The set 3 course Christmas menu was nicely varied and as a party of 7 we ordered right across it. All dishes were rated excellent and flavoursome. Adaptations were made by pre order for my friend who is gluten free. The atmosphere was Christmassy in a foliage and white lights way with a soul based playlist. Service was very friendly and attentive but discreet. It was noisy but at this time of year when fully booked and the wine is flowing but you expect that. Would recommend.
I thought everything was excellent! The atmosphere, the live music and especially the food! It should be noted that they have several gluten-free options, which was what I appreciated the most! The fish and chips are spectacular!
We were guided by the reviews that gave it as a gluten-free location. And I must say that the whole family took advantage of it. Not only did we find several gluten-free dishes, but also the appetizers and soups were excellent. Especially on days when it often rains and the wind is felt, a nice hot cup is always nice. We enjoyed the Tuscan with tomato juice. We Italians appreciated it too. Giant salads and friendly staff. In fact, we returned for an aperitif the next morning. If you are in the Victoria Street area during lunch time, we recommend it.
Went here my entire stay and had the bacon and egg bagel every day, very jummy (very accommodating to gluten allergy)😋 The staff is very nice and welcoming. A must try when visiting the city
Went in today on a rare trip into Edinburgh & it started pouring down five mins away so we entered soggy & I now know this dress goes see-through in the rain!
We got there a few mins before the end of breakfast service so ordered drinks and waited for the lunch time to start (there was some confusion on both our side and the server about the food ordering and when we asked another server he explained then saw to us personally even though it was Natalia’s section. I would like to reiterate we were not complaining about Natalia’s service it was just cross wires)
I ordered the vegan burger (beetroot and bean on the menu but they’d ran out and replaced with with a soy burger which they informed me of before ordering) The vegan burger is cooked in the same fryer as the chips so gluten free vegans need to look elsewhere on the menu.
Hub had peperoni pizza and ordered extra fries which I managed to help him eat. I know - such a chore 😎
The gent who helped us explained there was a bit of a wait for food because whenever it rains everyone rushes in at once and whilst it good for them the kitchen can get backed up. It was about another 10-15 mins before we could order but then the food came out in normal time afterwards.
They automatically add a 12.5% tip which they say is discretionary but the service was fab, they both did two check backs on us and for as busy as it was we didn’t feel neglected or ignored.
This small restaurant was amazing and the people were so nice. When they did not have gluten free bread they offered me some gluten free cake instead. I ordered the eggs and bacon for breakfast with expresso and it was all delicious.
Awarded as a celiac accredited caterer (with Celiac.uk sticker in the shop window) however, according to the employee, nothing is guaranteed to be gluten-free due to contamination.
When asked, the employee reacted rudely, didn't know what the GF sticker meant and then spoke badly about us to her colleague in our presence.
This review is more of a warning than a review. I tried to eat here but they turned me away for having celiac even though they have a gluten free menu. Do not recommend for someone with celiac or a gluten allergy.
