What a great place!!! The only thing better than the food is the exceptionally friendly and accommodating staff, especially Marico who seems to be there from dawn to closing and is as nice at the end of the day as he is at the beginning. A MUST if you are passing through Bad deck (even worth making a detour for a stop). AND they have an amazing gluten free selection of most of their menu!!
Went for the Nutella noodle cheesecake (March 11-5, 2025 only) and left with the peanut butter cheesecake too. Sweet Hereafter is an adorable cheesecake and coffee/tea restaurant, perfect for a date, catch up, late night dessert or to take out. It’s a ‘Ma and Pa’ business, locally owned and operated and the Pa makes all the recipes. And they have gluten free options. They’re closed on Sundays and Mondays so plan ahead. So glad it’s on my dessert choice list now!
What a fantastic little cafe located in a beautiful little town. Just up from the water you’ll find the Kiwi Cafe!
As part of my Eggs Benedict Tour I’m currently on. You know what I ordered. And it was great! A little untraditional using ham and not peameal, but that’s forgivable as it tasted amazing!
The roasted potatoes as the side was great. They give you lots and they are well seasoned. I felt they could have been a little warmer, but I ate every crumb!
Easily part of the clean plate club!
I also grabbed a couple Gluten Free items from the front for a friend of mine!
Stop in, have a bite or get a coffee to go, you won’t be disappointed!
A truly perfect stop for coffee, brunch, and a treat! Food and service were great! Gluten free quinoa bread available!
We had the Turkey deli on the gluten free quinoa bread & a gluten free chocolate brownie! The garlic mustard seed aioli was SO good 🤤… we are thinking about it hours later. I also highly recommend the cans of carbonated water in the photos - they’re super unique flavors and really tasty when poured over ice. The purple can became my new fave!!
Cute & cozy space with simple pretty decor & art on the walls. Good for photos 💓 Helpful staff & locals happy to give trail recommendations ☺️ Everytime I do the Cabot Trail I stop into this cute little spot!
Seating both inside and outside available, large parking lot.
Fantastic! Chickpea Buffalo wrap, and the oak cake.
They have lots of vegan and gluten-free options and they are very up on dietary restrictions. They are lgbtq and trans-friendly. The service was amazing, the environment was very cozy and they have some communal seating areas where we met a very nice man.
Highly recommend this spot. Their food is amazing. All around fantastic experience
Vacationing from Vancouver B.C. and fancied a nosh whilst touring around N.S.
I'm also celiac and this place has many options!! I was more than thrilled to see this on the menu!
Baked Brie w/gf crackers was delicious 😋
The staff are very friendly and super helpful with directions.
Also, they serve a generous cup of coffee!
Definitely check it out if you're in the area 👍
Thank you!
A quirky, fun neighbourhood coffee shop packed full of character! Decor and atmosphere were on point, and I loved every little detail. The gluten-free options were very tasty as well!
A hidden treasure we just happened to find. Great place to meet up with friends in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. The service was amazing, and the food was excellent. My husband has celiac, and not only did he have gluten-free choices on the menu, he really enjoyed the food. Best of all, he didn't have any negative reactions. We'll definitely be going back whenever we're on Halifax.
I love good coffee and they serve good coffee. I like to think that, if you like good coffee too, this statement will encourage you to go and enjoy the coffee. Seating was a challenge and there's only one bathroom that I could locate so be prepared because it's a popular place. There was even a gluten free donut my partner could enjoy. Just go for the coffee and see what fortune befalls you.
I was looking for a great cup of coffee and a bite to eat and noticed the good reviews and gluten free options. Sadly, I found the coffee underwhelming - very weak and flavorless. My GF breakfast sandwich tasted good and was delivered to the table by very personable staff but I found it to be expensive, for what it was. I also had a GF/vegan macaroon but it tasted nothing like a macaroon. It was very odd tasting making me wonder what I was ingesting. 🫢 Lastly, I wished I had not gone to the washroom; it was surprisingly dirty and did not appear to have been cleaned in a long while, a real turn off to eating there again. I thought I would like the place based on the reviews but there were just too many negatives for me.
Nice little restaurant with a small patio overlooking the harbour.
Since it was very busy we did not get a patio space but sat indoors, still a bit of view.
Very friendly staff!
The food was good, we had some desserts as well, also one in gluten free.
I would have loved fries with the fish....
And it would be great if breakfast hours would be longer.
We came here several mornings for coffee and breakfast sandwiches while on holiday. The baristas made fabulous drinks every time and the breakfast sandwiches were delicious. The gluten free bread option was great. The staff were kind and helped me with the huge order I made for take away. Lovely!!
Most delicious pizza and gluten-free pizza outside of Italy. Sooooo good. They know how to brown the cheese to perfection. Espresso drinks, treats and sweet potato sandwiches are also super.
Cute coffee shop. They have inside seating and an outdoor patio. Lots of options for coffee and tea. We ordered a gluten free chocolate chip cookie which was definitely delicious. They have decks of cards available and cribbage boards to use. Was a nice cozy experience.
I find it utterly ridiculous that to order a gluten free sandwich, I have to pay the same price as a regular sandwich but I am getting served half the amount of food. It is bad enough when restaurants charge extra money just for someone to eat a gluten free bun, but to be asking for that much money for that little food is disrespectful. Eating gluten free for many people isn't an optional lifestyle choice. It is medically necessary, and we shouldn't have to break the bank to eat out. What this is is ableism based in capitalism.
The food here is sub par for the price I am paying. There are a few things that are definitely good enough that maybe the price is okay, but the vast majority is not.
The kindness and skill of the staff is the one redemptive quality of the establishment. They are excellent servers and baristas. Every employee I interacted with was delightful.
My husband and I stopped here for breakfast last week before we did Shubie River Wranglers tidal bore rafting. My husband had a delicious omelet and I had the pancakes and bacon. Today we stopped again, this time for lunch, on our way from Lunenburg to Cape Breton. My husband had the full house salad with chicken and I had a chicken salad sandwich with home fries. Both times we also did take out for their meat pies and desserts. We love everything about this lovely restaurant. Service and food are top notch. My husband has a gluten allergy and the menu was very accommodating for him. Make sure to stop by if you are in Truro!
Really unique tea blends, coffee-based drinks, and treats with names inspired by literature. There are a range of options for different dietary needs (vegan, gluten free, etc.)Friendly staff and lovely soft music in the background. The shop is wheelchair accessible and the walls post art from the Truro arts society.
Very expensive but good food, good gluten free options as well accessible for wheelchairs. Service was great and they even showed us how to play. Wish we could've stayed longer!
Love this place!
I'm addition to their offering of a gluten free menu for those who have celiac, their food, service and restaurant is soo good!
We enjoy their breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything is always great!
Food is also affordable!
Never had a bad experience (been here 4 times at least).
The owner and the staff are so genuine and happy to see you, it makes for such a wonderful sippin’ or shoppin’ experience. Such unique gifts, incredibly delicious coffee and gluten free goodies for us Celiacs! If you haven’t been in, do yourself a favour and go! Large patio in the back is perfect for the Summer season!
Cute little place with amazing food!! Best bacon I've ever had, too! Everything is made super fresh and homemade style!
They knew all about cooking for celiac people, too, like my mother. It's always a relief when she can eat in confidence that she won't react!
Both Annie and her helper Kahleah are both super friendly and knowledgeable! With beyond normal courtesy! I can't recommend this place enough you have to eat here!
Lots of gluten free options! Incredibly delicious food. A very unique and welcome option in a sea of chain-restaurants.
Highly recommend the gf crab cakes!
We popped in and were very pleased when the owner said that she was celiac and her husband (the cook) was very knowledgeable of the limitations that come with it. Couldn't recommend enough for any family, gluten free or not!
From the moment you step into this quaint establishment, you're transported into a world where every detail is meticulously crafted to perfection.
Let's start with the decor, which is nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted by a symphony of colours and textures that immediately captivate the senses. The walls adorned with local artwork offer a glimpse into the soul of the community, while the cozy seating arrangements beckon you to relax and unwind.
But it's the little details that truly set Cafe Lara apart. From the delicate floral arrangements adorning each table to the subtle flicker of candlelight that dances across the room, every element has been thoughtfully curated to create an atmosphere of warmth and elegance.
And then there's the gluten-free almond Bakewell tart - a true masterpiece in its own right. From the first bite, you're greeted by a symphony of flavours that dance across the palate.
We have been in for lunch, as well as brunch/coffee many times, and have always had a great experience. Gluten-free options (I am celiac and had no issues) including their side potato salad which was to die for. Great, relaxing environment, delicious coffee, and the staff are always extremely kind and accommodating.
Lovely spot for breakfast, lunch, or tea and dessert. The staff are super friendly and were very helpful with our dairy and gluten allergies. I got the club sandwich on gluten-free bread - delicious and hearty! The salad was fresh and had homemade poppyseed dressing. There is also an Acadian museum on site.
