First time to get food here since the ownership changed. The particular attraction is the availability of gluten free rock eel on Wednesdays. Ordered online so the food was waiting for me on arrival. Once home, both sets of fish and chips were hot, crisp and obviously newly cooked. Very enjoyable overall.
Food was delicious, we had 3 sweet waffles which we thoroughly enjoyed. One member of our party cannot eat gluten so it was great to see that gluten free waffles were available. Service was good and I absolutely love the fact that the building itself is an old water mill. You can still see the inner workings of the water mill inside in a little museum area. My only complaint is the booking system and the queue. I tried to come in the day several times on weekends, could not get parked and found there was a massive queue. There was no option to pre-book a table which seemed absolutely nuts to me, especially when some people are elderly or disabled and cannot stand or walk for long periods of time. Not at all inclusive from this point of view! I did enquire whether it would be possible to pre-book and was told no. I can therefore only assume that for some reason the owners like the massive queue as it could very easily be resolved by introducing either an online or telephone booking system. In the end to avoid the queue I came at 11am on a weekday. However, the difficulty in getting a table without queuing will make it practically difficult for me to come back again in the near future given I work full time Monday-Friday. I'd love to recommend to friends and relatives but don't feel I can on account of the queuing and lack of booking system.
Great meal at Miller and Carter to celebrate end of GCSES. Beata, our server was fantastic and very attentive. 1 member of our party needed the gluten free menu and they had a good choice. Will definitely go again and recommend.
Loved it! Service was amazing, very friendly and helpful. Food was served reasonably quick, considering it was busy restaurant. However, we have ordered mezzes only. All mezzes were tasty, they have vegan, gluten free mezze options. The atmosphere is cosy, authentic with Asian style tables and chairs and ornaments. Definitely made nice vibe. Overall did enjoy the evening and the dinner :)
Wow!! Delicious food! Hats off to the owner and chef. We had the chilli chorizo eggs (gluten free), sweet chill prawns (gluten free) and hot honey halloumi. The layers of flavours and seasoning in each dish were fantastic! The portions were a really good filling size and the presentation of each was great! Dishes that normally come with 'doorstops' of sourdough were substituted at my request for double-layered gluten free bread, instead. Thats a nice touch and rare to see. Us GFers often get meagre bread in most places and sometimes have to pay more for it, so this is definitely a welcome approach. Mochas were delicious too.
The staff were busy, but very friendly and we chatted to the owner.
This place is a gem. We'll definitely be coming back when visiting friends in St Albans. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
We visited in June 2025
I ordered a box of six brownies (chocolate, butterscotch, salted caramel with peanut butter), they post their brownie boxes nationwide (DPS courier) . I brought it to work to share with my colleagues. They absolutely raved about it, the brownies were great. For me the chocolate one (gluten free) is the best. Highly recommend.
food up to usual nando’s standard, but came here on 14th may 2025 at around 1pm - manager or main server was condescending when we asked for our allergy order to be marked as an allergy order as he believed that it wouldn’t be an issue given what we were ordering- for reference it’s a gluten allergy and cross contamination could be an issue- he refused to even just mark it as allergy to let the kitchen know, then suggested he couldn’t serve us if we were ‘unsure’ - essentially if we pushed for it to be allergy marked he wouldn’t serve us… all in all ruined this dining experience and felt insecure about the food, which was a shame given we are big fans of nando’s recently, please make sure staff are helpful and sympathetic about allergies in future 🙏
Really great place for brunch. Myself, my partner and our two friends all had a Full English, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Accommodations were easily made for my partner, who is a coeliac. Only lose a star because one of the waitresses was quite blunt / rude / looked like she'd rather be elsewhere. All of the other staff were lovely, though.
So many yummy options to choose from - the staff is very attentive, the decoration and atmosphere is great and the food is delicious.
I am gluten and lactose intolerant and they were very attentive to ensure the food was appropriate to me - the second photo you can see my plate.
We had a great experience there!
I had afternoon tea here with a friend today. The food was delicious and plentiful- we could have had top ups of scones and did have a top up of tea. We did not feel rushed at all.
The gluten free afternoon tea was lovely and I was asked if I would like something instead of the chutney in my cheese sandwich as that was not gluten free, which made me feel safe about bringing a coeliac here. All in all a lovely experience.

Really delicious Roast Dinner, and in my case it is really difficult because it has to be gluten free.
I had everything even the Yorkshire pudding and it was wonderful ... and those gratin potatoes seduced my heart. The atmosphere is really nice there. I will definitely come back.
The only problem for me is that there is no children's menu
Hands down one of the best burgers I have had. I am gluten free and the gluten free burger was like having a normal burger again. The food came piping hot which is very rare these days. There was so much flavour and very good presentation.
I will defiantly be ordering from here again.
Fantastic takeaway fish and chips from here tonight. Gluten free batter was great (& not many places do it). Chips also delicious. Had to wait approx 15 mins as cooked to order but worth it. Its also cash only. Will definitely be back.
Nice atmosphere and staff. However NOT COELIAC FRIENDLY. If you have a low gluten sensitivity, it could potentially be suitable if following the gluten free options on menu. I was told that toasters, fryers etc. are shared with gluten food items. Staff however did show some awareness regarding the cross contamination issues, but required initial prompting to investigate. Substitutes were not made and my ‘gluten free BLT with chips’ became an expensive salad! Otherwise, a nice stop for a drink or a regular meal if not gluten free!
One of the best pubs I've been to in England! They have amazing gluten free knowledge- including gluten free sunday roasts and yorkshire puddings! The service was extremely friendly and they were always trying to improve your experience. The outdoor seating area is lovely on a sunny day and they have umbrellas if it's too sunny. The food and drinks are also very well priced!
Gluten-free delicious ramen. I’m a coeliac and felt pretty safe. They did inform me that they can’t guarantee zero cross contamination but that they were trying their best to avoid it. As always in non-certified locations, go at your own risk.
One of the breakfast places that opens pretty early. Eating area is beautiful, and decor extends to the washroom (only 1).Friendly service, very prompt. They know their food and it was important because I am gluten intolerant. Food is excellent. Hubby ended up with an extra cup of coffee because he wanted to linger a little longer. Just off the main street, behind Subway, but it's blue color exterior is not hard to miss. Thank you Street Cafe for a lovely mornnig.
We had lunch and the food was fresh and good. I told them I was gluten intolerant, and they reassured me they would pay attention. And they did. Great potato chips, fried in a dedicated fryer
This is Indian food with a difference! We had both some tapas as well as a couple of mains, naan and rice, sharing everything. The food was great quality, with quite a few dishes different from what you'd have in every Indian. Tastes rich and balanced, with just the right amount of hot. I particularly liked the tapas - Lasooni Paneer Shahslik, Salmon Tikka and Choori Chat were excellent. Service superb. Lots of vegetarian and gluten free options. Find this little gem a few steps off the high street, it's well worth it!
I ordered a gluten free option which I checked when my food arrived . 10 minutes later a gluten free option arrived - so obviously I had eaten the meal full of gluten . Beware !!!!!!!!
Fantastic steak ! We went in for lunch/ dinner time, it was empty however we did go in at an in between time. This however did not affect service as the waiter we had was extremely lovely, very attentive and helpful. The waiter treated us to Parmesan cheese scones on the house which was a pleasant surprise, accommodating for the gluten allergies too! We all ordered a ribeye and it was melt in your mouth incredible - one of the best steaks we’ve ever had. Would 100% recommend! :)

They craft the food themselves, good really excellent. The team there are knowledgeable and understand gluten intolerance, and adapt the menu to your needs.
I was so impressed with Nkora!
This is a charming and airy coffee shop in the centre of St Albans.
The coffee was very well made, and they used high quality specialty beans. In regards to treats, there was an exciting abundance of food that catered to a variety of dietary preferences and intolerances. I was astounded at how many gluten free, gluten free/ dairy free, gluten free/ vegan, and keto options there were (on top of regular offerings). Truly, this was one of the best selections I’ve seen in the UK. After having lived in Oxford, which is lacking in most cafés having even one option, this nearly brought me to tears. THE CHOICES! I opted for a peanut butter blondie, but I am interested to try the white chocolate raspberry donut next time.
The service was also top notch - the staff answered all of my inquiries in regards to food and allergens. They were amicable, knowledgeable, and had smiles on their faces.
Genuinely a lovely spot to check out, and highly recommended!
Delightful meal for a birthday celebration. Cosy welcoming pub with defined areas for drinking and dining but retains buzzy atmosphere. Has a varied menu, well executed and confidently presented. Chipotle butter Scallop was a highlight. Wine list is extensive and interesting. Staff were able to advise on gluten free options, which were available across starters, mains and desserts. Only slight disappointment was finishing the meal with a limp chamomile tea bag. For a place with such focus on the provenance of the food and lovely tea pots, it was a flat end to the meal and I'd hope for loose leaf.

Charlotte and her team are amazing - Louise deserves special mention - always remember my drink and as a celiac there are great gluten free options - siren and jubel on tap. Love the steaks too. Come here for a great atmosphere.
A nice venue with good atmosphere. That is the good part. However I found the service to be fairly average and quite lacking in any personal way. Too many jacketed staff rushing about and not enough care taken with the table guests. To begin with the food is ok, and I mean ok, a large starter of bread whilst I wait for my actual starter. As it happened I could have waited all day as it was not delivered at all leaving me to just try and graze on my sour dough bread and increase my gluten content. When our mains arrived I reminded the staff that I was still waiting for my starter. The reply was apologetic and I could have it asap ( after my main course). Rather disappointing for a restaurant that trades highly on its name and reputation. The food when it came was ok, although my wife’s steak was chewy and not well cooked. The bright spot was the dessert. Overall I am extremely disappointed having eaten a few times in the Asia version with fantastic food and service each time. What was supposed to be a celebratory meal was really very average and not worth the money paid. I left the restaurant full of sour dough bread and a feeling that I could have spent much less for much better food and service at a gastro pub.
Really amazing place. Their ice cream rolls with rasmali and gulab jaman are very good. They have really good selection of gluten free cakes which is bonus. I would highly recommend this desert place .
Full service supermarket. Enough gluten free food to be useful. Petrol station on site, not yet any electric chargers. Cafe in supermarket, ok, not great.

My family agreed to try Plantopia on my birthday (because it’s my favourite takeaway!). I’m the only vegan in the family, but they all said they’re definitely ordering again which makes me very, very happy as it means more Plantopia for me 😅 They had the BBQ corn ribs, Mac & cheese, Miami burger, Texan BBQ burger and Chimichurri burger with skin on fries and absolutely loved it all. I’m also gluten free and never disappointed with the food I get here. Forgot to take photos as we were all so excited to eat. Thank you for your wonderful food!
