The food is amazing! Honestly, they deserve more recognition but I'm afraid that it'll become impossible to get a table. Masala dosas are you best, and they can make them gluten free equally delicious.

The staff was extremely friendly. The owner gave a free appetizer that was gluten/dairy free. Very conscious of dietary restrictions. At the end of the meal, we were surprised with a free dessert. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will be coming back.
The samosas marked gluten free are not actually gluten free! Confirmed not GF by a cook at the restaurant after I ate them and got very sick. Please be careful if you have Celiac.
Impeccable vibes and service here. Absolutely delicious, high quality ingredients…and one of the only places I know that makes gluten-free naan bread, that is so good! Whenever I come here I feel like I’m traveling to India, even though I’ve never been. They are as authentic as it gets.
My girlfriend is celiac, as well as allergic to dairy and most meats. The owner came over and went through all of her allergies and guaranteed they would all be covered with no cross contamination in the kitchen. He recommended a few dishes for us and it was truly the best Indian food we've ever had, all with being gluten-free and dairy free. We'd be very regular customers if we weren't just in town visiting.
Best Indian food in the city! Gluten free options for my mom. Attentive service although it can be slow when very busy. If you like Indian food you need to try this place it’s very gourmet!
This has become my favorite restaurant for ordering in dinner in SF. I’m vegetarian and really appreciate how many options they have, and how delicious each one is! I can taste the layers of flavors and spices, and it’s so yum :P I can tell the food is made with love.
Also really appreciate that each dish is clearly marked as vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and even organic!
This is one of my favorite restaurants! They can make anything but samosas gluten free, and can make most sauces dairy free. I love being able to have naan again! My favorites are lamb boti kebab, tandoori chicken, chicken vindaloo, vegetable pakora, chicken pakora. I've heard their chicken tikka masala is wonderful, but haven't had them make it dairy-free for me yet.
My hubby treated us to a Chicago Deep Dish Pizza.Oh yummy, it is delicious. Not salty, its crust is light as well tasty. The sauce is just right in flavor as well as its temperature gluten-free ohhhyeah.😋 for those that enjoy sausages 😋 😜 need I mention more? The friendly and welcoming atmosphere is just great it's genuine🪷
Come one, come all, enjoy a great deal value, fill up, be thankful for Pizza Twist in town. Namaste 🙏🏽
Lovely Indian buffet with attentive, friendly staff. The food was delicious and they included information on ingredients like gluten free and vegan, etc - very helpful! Super reasonably priced too. I highly recommend.
Himalayan Restaurant is just great. We love real Indian food and the chef serves that. It is just perfect.
They only use fresh herbs and spices that are used in traditional Indian food.
They even got an award for Best Indian Restaurant of Sonoma County by the Press Democrat.
They specialize in kabobs, tandoors and curries. They also have the best soups.
Many of their items are vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. I don't care but I know a lot of people do.
The place is ever so cute and very clean. You feel at home and that is what they want for you. The service is so very wonderful and they will help you with the menu.
We had curry dishes that were out of this world good and two order of garlic nann. I should have taken some with me. The tandoori chicken breast cooked in spices with the best mild creamy sauce was a real favorite. Their organic tofu tikki, which are fried tofu & garbanzo patties crumbed with beaten rice was amazing. I did not expect to like it at all, tofu is just not my favorite thing, but it was so good.
We can't wait to get back there.
Arti’s is great Indian food, we took a quick trip to Goa Friday night in Lagunitas! The samosa was a delicious start, I tried some dishes I always get like Saag Aloo, I mashed the potatoes, eating each smooth bite of creamy richness (vegan). Arti reminded me to get the gluten free naan as that is vegan. Ok, we all know gluten free bread is not as good as regular gluten, and, I appreciate having vegan options! The goa vegetable curry was easy to eat, mixed with some rice and delivered via naan. My favorites are the Chana Masala and Bagan Barta (spelling? delicious eggplant dish) I saved most of both for lunch, knowing the would hold overnight well. The ambiance is comfortable, a mix of neighbors and the random group coming back from Samuel P Taylor or Weat Marin. Think Global, Eat Local, you will enjoy the food and feeling of arti’s!
New fav place for Indian food! I was looking for a gluten free place on melrose and it did not disappoint! Im recovering from double jaw surgery so im not allowed to chew foods.. tired of soups! The Nirvana with tofu has been the best meal ive had during my recovery. Loved it! Thank you for a lovely dinner Roots❤️
I loooove this place! Delicious food and drinks! Service and atmosphere are top notch. Lots of gluten and dairy free options too! Even better! I’m from San Diego, and I learned tonight that the owner of this place is brothers with my favorite Indian restaurant in San Diego, spice lounge! Small world!
What really impressed me was their handling of dietary restrictions! They accommodated gluten-free, vegan and nut allergies without compromising on taste. The vegan curry options were just as delicious as the meat dishes. Portions were generous and everything was incredibly fresh.
The all you can section’s food selections was so delicious, the waiters so helpful and so friendly. My wife on a speciel diet no milk, and gluten free stuff, so they served extra sides for her, without extra cost!!

Very caring and good service but the food quality was below par. They don't know how to make biryanis or dosas. But all that dosa batter in early batter is definitely gluten free
Delightfully flavorful, well organized menu, gluten free options, and plenty of rice!!!
I wish I could eat here every day 😄😅
Thank you so much for the fantastic food!!! Amazing vibe inside too! 💜🙌🙏
The most friendly staff I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant I love that everything is bright pink inside very traditional and I like the fennel they have on the way out. The gluten free garlic naan is my favorite (hard to find in gluten free!)
I used to really love this place. I have celiac disease, and almost all of their items are gluten free. They’ve always been pretty willing to accommodate me, and I considered this one of my staple spots. Unfortunately, after many times eating there successfully, I was glutened and got super sick. When I tried to discuss this with them, they showed very little compassion and basically hung up on me. So disappointing.
Best Indian you can find in the States! Service is always great, they always remember my gal and myself every date night or overindulgent lunch! Best way to eat like a glutton without the gluten!
It’s so rare to find dairy and gluten free options, the food here was so great with delicious flavors! Also great portion sizes… so happy to have found this place!
Came here for a second time tonight (last time was about a month ago for my first visit) and this is hands down the best Indian & Nepalese food I've ever eaten. There is so much flavor in this food it's mind-blowing. Last time I went with mild for the spice, this time with medium and both were delicious. My favorite is the Nepali Chicken Curry. Also have had the plain naan, garlic naan, aloo naan, the rice, the homemade pistachio ice cream and the homemade coconut ice cream. All of it so good. Tonight we brought my parents and the server was very helpful in confirming which additional items were safe for my mom to eat because she can't have gluten (almost all of the main dishes are gluten free, but he helped her find an alternative to naan that was safe and to confirm additional sides were safe as well). The entire staff is friendly, the place is really clinic inside, and the food is killer.
Easy to see why this place has such great reviews. The food is incredible, super flavorful and well executed. Lots of gluten free and vegan options and very allergen friendly labels on menu.
First time here and it won’t be our last. The atmosphere is great, the service was phenomenal! Kriti was so helpful in recommending gluten free dishes (they are also marked clearly on the menu), and she was super attentive and nice. Everything was delicious and we want to come back and try all the other dishes on the menu!
Great gluten-free meals are consistently flavored from dish to dish.
Try the Nawaratan Korma, vegetable coconut curry, absolutely incredible. Medium heat rated at 5 is spicier than other local ratings.
Our second entree, Lamb Tikka Masala, was equally good and we cut the spice rating to 3 and it was nicer. Again, incredible flavor and a great portion size.
Indoor seating is nice when there is a breeze, but sit outside of the weather allows, the sunset views are relaxing.
Stopped by on our way back to the city after a day in the East Bay. We ordered the Aloo Gobi on gluten free crust -- when we took our first bite, my husband and I simultaneously said "oh no..." as in, "oh no, we will regularly risk traffic and pay the bridge toll to pick up this pizza again" because it is THAT GOOD.
What this place may lack in ambiance it makes up for in incredible, nuanced flavors and delicious gluten-free crust that's somehow both crispy and chewy. We are already making up excuses to be back to Oakland so we can order again...only wish we lived closer! :)
We really enjoyed our trip to the Taj for their lunch buffet. The buffet included chai tea and hot, fresh buttery naan bread. But in addition, we also received a cheese filled, gluten-free dosa! Buffets allows you to try many items, pace your meal as you like while socializing but many have disappeared since the pandemic, so the Taj is a good place to go with a group of friends. A public parking structure is also available right behind the restaurant.
We ordered the vegetable curry,. which was delicious! Because we couldn't have most of the appetizers because of cross contamination of gluten, I asked about the lamb samosas. The waiter was very thoughtful and suggested we get just the filling cooked in a pan without the wrapper that's always fried in the same oil as other breaded food. That's what they did for us, and it was still very tasty. He also brought some yogurt for us in case it was too hot! I also had a mango Lassi which was the best tasting one I've ever had . The owner was very knowledgeable about what we could and couldn't eat safety..
Amazing food, always come out fresh with so much flavor. They have many options and a lot of it isn't too hot for most people, but they also have hotter spice if you want it. Butter chicken with garlic naan bread is one of my favorites, I could eat it all day long. Vegetable pakora is super tasty too, really you just can't go wrong. Lots of options for different dietary restrictions like diabetics, celiac disease, keto, and vegetarian. Must have, especially if you've never had Indian food. It will open you up to a whole new world of food.
I had the Tandori chicken, gluten free crust with vegan cheese pizza, it was amazing. I will definitely be back. The crust was so good and crunchy and the Indian style pizza was a nice treat. The lady who served us was super nice and the atmosphere was very pleasant and peaceful. Very clean restaurant.
Always great. We’ve been going here for over a year now and have enjoyed it every time. The service is super friendly and the food is great. Everything clearly marked for us gluten free people. And so many great options. Try the lamb tikka masala.
Delicious Indian food at a very reasonable price. A Menlo Park gem. The chicken chettinad was 11/10. Lots of gluten free options, respectable serving sizes.
Yummy Indian restaurant with nice ambience.
The menu has lots of yummy options including vegan and gluten free.
Service is limited. The staff is friendly and will allow you to sit wherever you like. Only indoor seating is available. At every table there's a QR code that's used to see the menu as well as pay. Food is freshly prepared and came out quick.
Lots of free self parking.
5 stars! The food at Essence Indian Cuisine is both delicious and nourishing!
Arrived at 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon after hiking Lagoon Valley Park, and we were absolutely famished!
I looked for a near by Gluten Free Restaurant and was delighted to see that Essence had items on their menu clearly marked Gluten Free! I will share that I called ahead to confirm and when I was at the restaurant inquired about the items that are deep fried and learned that it’s a shared fryer, so if your concerned about cross contamination avoid those. However I had the Masala Dosa and was very pleased with the portion size and the flavors. The other people in my party had the mango chicken with rice and an order of garlic naan each! The server inquired about the spice level for the mango chicken and they wanted it mild, it came out extremely palatable for them with regards to heat as well as still very jam packed with flavor. The servers also came by regularly to fill our water as well as checking in the food was good or if there was anything else we needed. We forgot to take a picture of the food before however here is the after math of our collective clean plates!
Came in after a tattoo session on a Tuesday later in the evening and was starving! I'm very picky and to top it off I have a gluten allergy so finding a place to eat and enjoy is not always the easiest. I saw the pictures of this restaurant food online and could tell they knew and took care in what they made, however I was still shocked at how good their food was. The chicken biryani and their mint chutney was amazing. Quality, effort, flavor and tradition was all exhibited in the dish I had.
I love this place! The food is amazing and they have gluten-free naan! I have been here a couple of times and today I had the coconut vegetable curry which was everyone’s favorite! So so good 🥰
