Food was delicious, we had 3 sweet waffles which we thoroughly enjoyed. One member of our party cannot eat gluten so it was great to see that gluten free waffles were available. Service was good and I absolutely love the fact that the building itself is an old water mill. You can still see the inner workings of the water mill inside in a little museum area. My only complaint is the booking system and the queue. I tried to come in the day several times on weekends, could not get parked and found there was a massive queue. There was no option to pre-book a table which seemed absolutely nuts to me, especially when some people are elderly or disabled and cannot stand or walk for long periods of time. Not at all inclusive from this point of view! I did enquire whether it would be possible to pre-book and was told no. I can therefore only assume that for some reason the owners like the massive queue as it could very easily be resolved by introducing either an online or telephone booking system. In the end to avoid the queue I came at 11am on a weekday. However, the difficulty in getting a table without queuing will make it practically difficult for me to come back again in the near future given I work full time Monday-Friday. I'd love to recommend to friends and relatives but don't feel I can on account of the queuing and lack of booking system.
Wow!! Delicious food! Hats off to the owner and chef. We had the chilli chorizo eggs (gluten free), sweet chill prawns (gluten free) and hot honey halloumi. The layers of flavours and seasoning in each dish were fantastic! The portions were a really good filling size and the presentation of each was great! Dishes that normally come with 'doorstops' of sourdough were substituted at my request for double-layered gluten free bread, instead. Thats a nice touch and rare to see. Us GFers often get meagre bread in most places and sometimes have to pay more for it, so this is definitely a welcome approach. Mochas were delicious too.
The staff were busy, but very friendly and we chatted to the owner.
This place is a gem. We'll definitely be coming back when visiting friends in St Albans. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
We visited in June 2025
Loved it! Service was amazing, very friendly and helpful. Food was served reasonably quick, considering it was busy restaurant. However, we have ordered mezzes only. All mezzes were tasty, they have vegan, gluten free mezze options. The atmosphere is cosy, authentic with Asian style tables and chairs and ornaments. Definitely made nice vibe. Overall did enjoy the evening and the dinner :)
I had afternoon tea here with a friend today. The food was delicious and plentiful- we could have had top ups of scones and did have a top up of tea. We did not feel rushed at all.
The gluten free afternoon tea was lovely and I was asked if I would like something instead of the chutney in my cheese sandwich as that was not gluten free, which made me feel safe about bringing a coeliac here. All in all a lovely experience.
So many yummy options to choose from - the staff is very attentive, the decoration and atmosphere is great and the food is delicious.
I am gluten and lactose intolerant and they were very attentive to ensure the food was appropriate to me - the second photo you can see my plate.
We had a great experience there!

Really delicious Roast Dinner, and in my case it is really difficult because it has to be gluten free.
I had everything even the Yorkshire pudding and it was wonderful ... and those gratin potatoes seduced my heart. The atmosphere is really nice there. I will definitely come back.
The only problem for me is that there is no children's menu
Delightful meal for a birthday celebration. Cosy welcoming pub with defined areas for drinking and dining but retains buzzy atmosphere. Has a varied menu, well executed and confidently presented. Chipotle butter Scallop was a highlight. Wine list is extensive and interesting. Staff were able to advise on gluten free options, which were available across starters, mains and desserts. Only slight disappointment was finishing the meal with a limp chamomile tea bag. For a place with such focus on the provenance of the food and lovely tea pots, it was a flat end to the meal and I'd hope for loose leaf.
Hands down one of the best burgers I have had. I am gluten free and the gluten free burger was like having a normal burger again. The food came piping hot which is very rare these days. There was so much flavour and very good presentation.
I will defiantly be ordering from here again.
This is Indian food with a difference! We had both some tapas as well as a couple of mains, naan and rice, sharing everything. The food was great quality, with quite a few dishes different from what you'd have in every Indian. Tastes rich and balanced, with just the right amount of hot. I particularly liked the tapas - Lasooni Paneer Shahslik, Salmon Tikka and Choori Chat were excellent. Service superb. Lots of vegetarian and gluten free options. Find this little gem a few steps off the high street, it's well worth it!
Great meal at Miller and Carter to celebrate end of GCSES. Beata, our server was fantastic and very attentive. 1 member of our party needed the gluten free menu and they had a good choice. Will definitely go again and recommend.
