One of my favorite restaurants. I love that they change up the menu regularly. And as a celiac, they are somewhere I feel super safe eating (and can actually have fries since they have dedicated fryers!). Their GF carrot cake is amazing and it's rare I order a dish that I don't love. Also very much love the rooftop dining in the summer.

This pizza I must say is very good! I was very pleased with my experience. Place was clean, service was on point, and even the bread sticks were amazing. As far as pizza goes….. this is now my first choice above all the rest. In addition the gluten free pizza was great too which is hard to come by in Grand Rapids.
Had the best tapas paired with the best service from Derick, our waiter. Loved that they had a gluten free baguette with pesto, and all of our food was delicious.
The only thing I was disappointed in was the size of the check afterward. We ordered the Chef's feast thinking we would save money, but if you have to eat gluten-free like I do, you have to order the premium appetizer and premium entree, for which you are charged extra. Our bill was $94 for 3 people and we ordered the Chef's feast for 2. We will not do that again! The food was excellent and the service was very good. I just didn't know it was going to be so expensive.
First visit here was several years ago on an overnight stay for a concert. Today I had to go back because that time was so good. Today I went and sat at the bar for brunch the staff (all 4 I encountered) were friendly and helpful answering questions and making suggestions that made my visit amazing. I went for this avocado toast gluten free with added egg and coffee, followed up with a citrus drink they mixed for me (not cocktail) that was the perfect refresher after the delicious meal. 10/10 recommend going here when in Grand Rapids, it is a super adorable yet smaller space so try to go outside the typical meal times or be patient and willing to wait. It’s worth it in my opinion.
The cocktails were yummy and very reasonably priced ( most around 10$ with more than decent liquor). Our server was great and very attentive. I had the hoppin jane dish. As a gluten free, vegan I thought it was very delicious. Be sure you ask for extra green goddess dressing as it really made the dish. So flavorful! I wish I lived closer, this would become a regular for me! We would love a Noco in the Ann Arbor area!
Absolutely fun and welcoming atmosphere! People are friendly and open. Family friendly, allergy conscious, super affordable, and overall great vibe. Love the local art that envelopes the walls. All staff was very accommodating and diverse. Will make this a regular stop! Gluten free nachos were so good and fed me and my teenage son with leftovers!
Good pub with a nice burger and fries. Service was a bit lacking, though nice.
- Big Easy: Half pound standard burger ordered medium and got it medium. The burger was juicy and cooked the way I like it. The rest of the burger was fairly plain and not much else to write home about. The cheese was not melted much. I saw it had mustard and no ketchup, so I freaked and asked them for ketchup instead of mustard which they did.
I thought the burger was a little overpriced compared to the many of the other places I have visited in the area. If it were that good, I wouldn’t have a problem paying the price, but it was too plain to charge $16 and only get chips.
- Fries: I upgraded to the fries. They were again fairly plain, but done right. They are medium sized steak fries with a good fluffy center and medium softer outer skin. They stayed warm until the end and were cooked just right.
- Crispy Brussels Sprouts: WOAH! Powerful taste. There are several well balanced flavors that were nonetheless screaming for attention on this dish. I do like brussel sprouts and these were great, but a bit too much.
That said, the parmesan was added as large shavings rather than grated which gave a great texture. The bacon is always a nice touch. The sherry gastrique was very sweet and powerful. There was a sour flavor to it as well that hits you at first, but settles down as you become acquainted with the initial shock. I liked it and it is worth trying. You’ll have to be the judge, though. It is a unique flavor.
Not on the menu, but they have gluten free buns. Also, their Barnyard Burger was listed apart from the other burgers and I missed it. Their menu needs a bit of organization.
They also have Shepherd’s Pie. Maybe I’ll come back and try that some time.
They also list specials on their website. They are mostly drinks, though. I do see occasional specials for food listed on their Facebook page.
- Service: We were greeted at the door immediately and seated at a booth at our request. However, that is where it seemed to go downhill. We looked over our menu and were ready to order and waited a good while (it was NOT that busy). Finally, I ended up sticking my head into the isle and being served by someone who wouldn’t have served us otherwise. Waters were finally brought (though never refilled) and our orders were taken. When served, it did come in a timely fashion, though. Paying also took a while. We had the credit card on the table for a good 5 minutes or more waiting to pay.
BEWARE: The tip by default is 25% when paying by credit card. I didn’t notice until it was too late, especially since we were trying to get out as soon as possible since it was taking too long. I would NOT have tipped that much for our experience. Lesson learned.
- Atmosphere: The booths have hard wooden backs, but cushioned seats (a bit worn, but not bad at all). The wood is warn down I think on purpose. It gives it that old-world feel they boast of. I felt like we were in Ireland or Scotland. There is a decent amount of old-world decor and the main of the inside is dark wood. It was overall comfortable in spite of the wooden backs.
The music playing in the background was almost imperceptible. I could not hear it unless I really listened for it. Talking to my wife was not an issue and I appreciated that.
The bathrooms were a tad small, but were okay. My wife mentioned the women’s room was a bit unclean, but I didn’t think the men’s room was bad.
To call this place a “gastropub” (according to their Google Maps description) I think is a bit of a stretch. I think it is more of a pub with a slightly greater emphasis on the food than a pub. Maybe somewhere in the middle. I am guessing they have been around for almost 14 years (November 5, 2010 according to their Facebook page).
Visited on a Friday night 7-8 PM. It was not terribly busy for a Friday and there were plenty of staff on hand from what I saw. Even a couple of the cooks came out for a few minutes.
I enjoyed everything about this place. The options for tacos was beyond expectation. The host was very hospitable. I love the menu set up, you fill out your order at your table. Everything is marked if it is gluten or dairy free. Service was great. Price was very reasonable.
Food was excellent. My peach margaritas was just the way
I like it...tart 😊 They also have a pet friendly deck you can enjoy with your furry friend.
Best burger and fries I have had in years. I have a severe gluten allergy and they were very knowledgeable and accommodating. They have a dedicated gluten free fryer for the fries and really good gluten free buns. The smash burger and fries were delicious and . my kids and husband said their meals were too. The atmosphere and people were great as well.

We really enjoyed this spot. The ambiance and service were great. Love how you can get a waffle any time of the day, especially a gluten free waffle! My favorite out of the love me tender, ol’ blue eyes, and hashtag (all were ordered gf) was the love me tender. If you are a peanut butter lover like me you have to get this one!

An incredible steaks with phenominal service. I sat at the bar and if you get Adam your service level will exceed any expectation. The dry aged NY Stripe Oscar Style paired with a Woodford Reserve Old Fashion created a party on my palate. The gluten-free Cheesy Brazilian pop-over bread is a must that would have made my Gkuten-Free friends run around punching the homless.
Worst ramen I’ve had- very bland and did not taste authentic. A lot of authentic ramen shops offer soba noodles, which are a great gluten free option, but the noodles here did not compare, and dissolved in the broth immediately, which was very unappetizing.
We enjoyed our lunch today at Peppino's. I had the salmon dinner and my husband had the steak dinner. I am gluten and dairy free and had no issues with the way the food was prepared. The food was excellent. Bree was our waitress. She was very friendly, efficient and made sure our food was prepared correctly.
I wanted to try the gluten free pizza but noticed that they didn't have any dairy free cheese available. I have found a plant based cheese that tastes like real cheese that I get through a company called Violife. Hopefully they will consider carrying it in the future. We will definitely be back! They accommodated us in every way. Thank you to all involved.

Very eclectic atmosphere (lots of fun colors, a variety of framed pictures, and plants) with a menu to match. Party tried the bobcat burger, loaded tots (totchos version) and the grilled fish tacos with a side of fries. The totchos were amazing (someone had fun creating those!) The burger was cooked perfectly and was full of flavor. The grilled fish tacos were tasty (fish was a little bland but the toppings helped a lot). Fries were cooked well (nice crisp on outside and soft on inside) and had great seasoning.
They do have multiple Vegan and gluten free options on their menu and also cocktails & mocktails.
Overall we had a great experience (Daniel’s service was terrific and they have Coke products which is a huge plus!)
Best gluten-free crust in town, closest to hand tossed I've found. Unfortunately, their doordash menu doesn't allow for custom gluten-free pizza's and the restaurant itself doesn't deliver to their full food app coverage. This limits you to only the specialty pizza's for delivery. They have a wide variety, but no pepperoni lovers. You cannot get a gluten-free cheese pizza delivered by food app.
Donkey is one of my favorites restaurants to go to! Not only do they have the best chips and guacamole and margaritas in Grand Rapids, they are somewhere where as a celiac I feel safe to eat (super informed plus dedicated GF fryers so I can actually have the chips :). Great tequila selection and tacos. The staff is also amazing and always welcoming. Having such a large outdoor seating area makes it an a great place for summer dining.
My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary tonight with a special dinner at Butcher's Union with our older children. Great service. Loved how different the patio room was with the huge skylight, rustic painted brick walls and tons of hanging vines and ferns. I appreciated that the Chefs were able to make my dinner free from gluten. Everyone loved what we ate. Dark and Stormy Mule was perfect. Steaks were tender and flavorful. Desert was good, too.

Food is always good, I'm enjoying the new gluten free items, that they are able to substitute for noodles in their delicious dishes! There is some cross contamination, I believe. But gluten free noodles are huge! Still no bread sticks sadly... But maybe one day!
We ate here with a party of seven, four adults and three children the first time prior to a show at the nearby devos performance hall. We enjoyed the food, but what stood out was the friendly service, and excellent care from Sam and Theodora. They were attentive, kind, and friendly to our children. We had a great time and hope to be back.
Restaurant was clean including restrooms.
Nice decor.
Drinks: 4 of us for lavender lemonade and loved them. My husband got a Paloma and enjoyed it.
Food: GET A BISCUIT. They are dreamy. We also enjoyed the rest of our meals including a kids burger, the filet meal, the gluten free pork, and a chicken sandwich. Too full for dessert but also opted out because of no gluten free desert options.
We’re likely to be back next time we’re in GR and want good food in a casual, family friendly atmosphere with nonalcoholic good drinks.
Stopped in after a Lego event downtown. The only tables they had were Hightower, which were not my favorite. I enjoyed splitting a gluten-free pizza and a nice salad with my wife. Both were very good. The salad may have been even better. The kids only had a little food to take home. The best moment there was when there was a dad and a toddler waiting for the bathroom. After waiting, they discover there is no changing table in the men's. The speak to the servers and the servers post guard outside the women's for him. As a father and human, I really appreciated that. Enjoyed this place and would go again.
The gluten free options were extremely limited and uninteresting. Our server was polite but not well informed about which things could be made gluten free. Somehow roe sashimi could not be made gluten free. I've been to dozens of sushi restaurants, and I'd say my roll was on par with Meijer deli. Except it was room temperature. My husband's food was not gluten free, and he enjoyed his meal more. We will definitely not return.
Great burgers, a passion for tater tots, and good dogs.
- Stocking Street Burger: It is your average burger, but done right. Ordered medium with American Cheese. It was juicy good. The toppings were well balanced. It did not fall apart. The bun complimented well.
- J-Dawg Burger: This was my favorite, but it had a minor flaw of falling apart. Ordered medium and it was medium.
The burger patty was stuffed with toppings and sauce, a new trend I am liking. I’ve always been concerned if they fell apart and this was an example of one that does. A third of the burger fell out the back about two to three bites in. I put it back, but bummer.
But that was the only flaw. They put a lot of thought into this burger and the taste was amazing and balanced just right. The burger patty was SUPER juicy good. The pretzel bun was a great decision on their part and really made it stand out well.
- The Cooper: Basic chili cheese dog, but with really good cheese sauce. It was a little better quality beef dog and slightly bigger. The chili was a little above average. The cheese sauce, like with the J-Dawg Burger, is amazing!
If you like hot dogs, you’ll like this place. Get two dogs and tater tots or fries are free!
- Curry Tots: A monthly special that is only available for this month (August 2024).
I believe they mainly added a curry spice to a mayo (don’t quote me on that, it might not be mayo). The grilled chicken was there, but the onion, red peppers, jalapeño, and cilantro were minor nuances, which were disappointing. A lot of the topping was on top only. The lower 80% didn’t have toppings except the left over.
It didn’t seem as well thought out as a concept. That said, it was still delicious because I do like a little kick.
- Poutine Tots: A regular menu item and it was delicious! The ingredients were well mixed in and well balanced (better than the Curry Tots).
The egg was a great addition. The pork was a great addition. The cheese was stringy good. The gravy is the best part (it is made with flour, so gluten-free beware).
- Tots (general): The bowl is small compared with the amount you get. It makes the dish look great, but it becomes a little difficult to manage if you want to mix in the toppings. The tots seemed fairly plain. Better than you’d get at the store, but not significantly enough to justify the price. Maybe ours were just a bit overcooked, but the inside should be a little fluffier and lighter. Again, I did enjoy the tots overall, but there’s still a bit of room for improvement.
- Chips: Like most pubs. No one seems to make good house made chips. Maybe it’s me.
- Fries: An extra $3 and worth it. Delicious. Nothing special. Just done right. Thin cut, warm to the end, fluffy center, good medium crunchy outside, but a bit salty (like many restaurants).
- Service: Waitress was all business, but pleasant. We seated ourselves, were met with immediately, and she made sure we were taken care of and anticipated our needs.
The food came relatively quickly without delays and was spot on right. I need a lot of water and though I usually ask for two, having only one was not a problem since she always made sure it was full.
- Atmosphere: A little more polished for the neighborhood, but not overly. You can walk in with jeans or a suit and fit in.
The emphasis on dogs is a little refreshing. I am not a dog person, but I can appreciate it to a degree. I think if you are a dog person, you’d LOVE this place.
- Monthly tots special: I think this is what makes Blue Dog Tavern special and what really attracted me to this place. I watched them on Facebook for a few months and saw a couple of fun ones. I mentioned the Curry Tots a friend of mine who shares my appreciation for curry and he insisted we get there to try it. I thought the monthly tots were simpler and less thought out than I saw on Facebook, but I’ve only tried one. The regular tot options look more well thought out and fuller.
Visited Wednesday 4:15-5:45 PM. Their menu on the website is current.
No frills place, so glad I was able to buy a gluten-free pizza with vegan cheese. It was good and they gave me no problems. They checked on an ingredient for me too. Have to wait outside for picking up only one person in at a time to checkout.
My daughter loved her wet burrito. They have the very best. She can no longer eat gluten and they had a gluten free burrito. 1st one in over a decade
They were giving profits to Hawaii fire relief yesterday
Great place
Good burger. Gluten-free pizza is AWESOME. Everyone loves their pizza.
It is odd that no one has reviewed their burger at this location yet, but here goes.
- Classic Burger - $13: Half pound patty, ordered medium and was served medium to medium well. It was medium quality meat. I liked the shredded lettuce. It was a tad on the sloppy side with the mayo and ketchup I ordered, but was tasty. The bun was a tad tough on the exterior, but plenty soft otherwise. Served in a wire basket on wax/paraffin paper, which is unique.
Overall, I have no complaints at all. The price was actually spot on compared to what is out there, the quality you get, and the size of the patty. Actually, if you factor in the fries, it is great value.
- Fries - (comes with the burger): Excellent battered fries. A tad thicker, served hot, and goes down easy. Cooked just right, soft inside, crispy outside, and delicious.
- 10” Gluten Free Cauliflower Crust Pizza - $17+toppings: Expensive, but the best I know. I couldn’t even tell it was gluten-free or cauliflower! It is my daughter’s favorite, so I decided to check it out with her. It is a thinner crust, but still soft. It is greasy. Everything about it is true to the Vitale’s mode of operation. Tons of toppings, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious!
With Pepperoni and bacon, it cost $19. For a 10” that fits on a dinner plate rather than a pizza pan, it is not much. My daughter will take leftovers home and have two meals to eat, though.
Vitale’s knows pizza. That’s for sure!!
- Service: Happy, pleasant, helpful, and punctual. We were taken care of very well. Nothing was left undone for more than a minute.
- Atmosphere: Casual and a bit of an American bar and grill feel. Sports is a huge emphasis, but they have a wing with a bit more classy feel to it that they open during higher volume times. It was generally clean and well kept. Our table was quote wobbly, though (very back corner on the northwest).
- Conclusion: I’d recommend their burger and HIGHLY recommend their pizza.
If you are gluten-free and want a special treat, this is THE place in Grand Rapids for sure!
Visited on a Tuesday at 5pm.
The view and setting at Blue Water Grill are stunning and stylish, and they always have creative options for a gluten free entree. We went on a busy Friday evening, excited to try out a new entree that was listed as GF on the website. Sadly when we placed our order I found that the item was not actually GF. The server was extremely apologetic that the website was incorrect and suggested some other delicious sounding options. After placing my order, the head chef offered to make a GF version of the item I originally wanted and it was so delicious I had tears in my eyes! The food was outstanding, and their service was above and beyond!!
We had Gino's delivered as a late night snack at our wedding and from the get-go Pete and his wife (sorry my mom spoke to you I can't remember your name!), were unbelievably sweet. We were super happy they had gluten free options for our guests with dietary restrictions! When we went in to pay for the pizza Gino wished us a lifetime of happiness and threw in t-shirts for my partner and I. We absolutely smashed the pizza, which was DELICIOUS, so I don't have any pictures. But I do have a picture of my partner in a Gino's shirt enjoying our honeymoon at the botanical gardens. Seriously amazing service. We'll be eating much more Gino's Pizza from now on! :)
Such a good place! The waitress we had tonight was great. She was always on top of things (refilling drinks, asking how things were, etc.). My girlfriend and I shared some chili (pretty good for an Italian sports bar). I got the Uccellos special pizza (always so good) and she got the gluten free pasta in the pesto cream sauce (she said it was pretty good for being gluten free pasta. We recommend Bistro Bella Vita if you want the best gluten free pasta in GR). Overall, very good quality of food and service, with tons of screens for sports as well.
Tried their traditional hand tossed round crust and found my new favorite! Absolutely perfect crust. My wife is gluten free, and their gluten free pizza crust is her favorite now. Just as good as a regular crust!
Definitely appreciate the military discount this location offers for active duty and retired military members, too! Thank you!
Got the gluten free goat cheese pizza with the staff recommendation of the calabrian honey. It is now my favorite combo. Staff was super nice and didn't have to wait long at all. Going to make this place a tradition everytime I come to the city.
One of the few gluten free burger experiences that has a nice chill and relaxed vibe along with amazing portions ;)
Also happens to have wonderful staff!
Had a great time celebrating my Brothers 50th at One Bourbon. The food was fantastic, highly recommend the Salmon with grits! So good.
My wife is Celiac and the server was extremely knowledgeable and made sure the food was treated properly.
I wish I would have gotten the bearded fellas name, he was awesome.
The outdoor seating was perfect and allowed for us to be loud without upsetting the delicate man bun people around us.
Parking was a bit of a pain as is most areas in GR, had to deal with some homeless men as we were walking back to the car. Nothing unusual and the area was pretty safe.
I will definitely go back and enjoy the food some more.
