Everything was great! We had a large party, which they were able to seat quickly and we all had food not long after order. I had the gluten free pizza, which impressed me and was not dry or crumbly at all. Very, very good!
A cozy local restaurant that offers their unique take on classic American cuisine. They are located in a charming building with plenty of street parking available surrounding the establishment. For nicer weather, there is a side patio with tables shaded with umbrellas and their main dining area.
The selection of food is perfect for lunch or dinner and not overwhelming, plus they have a full bar. They serve plenty of local beer and cider, which is an excellent way to sample what the area has to offer. The majority of the menu is gluten-free, and they do offer gluten-free substitutions for sandwiches and pasta. The real highlight of the meal are their spudsters - mashed potatoes made into little conical shapes with a piping bag, probably frozen, and then deep fried. They have seasonings and sauces to choose from to create endless tasting combinations. Absolutely my new favorite appetizer, and I would come back just for these.
Everyone enjoyed their lunch and we were very happy we decided to stop. We will definitely be by again when in the area.
First time going for lunch on a Saturday and it was a great experience! The service was wonderful and the food and drinks were delicious. I consider the menu to be more “modern” Mexican with some really cool and unique offerings and solid portions. I highly recommend the confit pork belly taco, masa fried shrimp taco, and OG tofu taco. 🌮 I also love that their soft shells are made from gluten-free blue corn tortillas and that they have vegetarian options as well. Very eager to go back and try their brunch!
My wife and I eat out a lot — probably more than we should — and honestly, most places blur together. Same look, same food, same “safe” hotel kitchen vibe. Napoletana Pizzeria & Bar is a refreshing exception.
It feels like the kind of neighborhood spot you’d find in Italy, or the way Boston’s North End used to be before it got over-gentrified. The food is bold and rustic, the space has real warmth — exposed brick, wood beams, no flash — just good energy and honest cooking.
We often go during Happy Hour (4–6pm). The menu stays the same, but the prices on drinks and appetizers drop. From the main menu, don’t miss the Griglie Miste — a mixed grill of sausage, steak tips, and chicken. Everything is cooked just right, and the char from the grill brings it all together. It’s big enough to share, but you might not want to.
The Mussels Fra Diavolo are another standout. Served as an appetizer, but easily a meal on their own. The broth is deep, rich, and spicy — and if heat isn’t your thing, they’ll tone it down while keeping the flavor. We get them almost every time.
If they have it, grab a glass of the Toscano wine. It’s imported by their parent company, Tuscan Kitchen, and it punches way above its price.
The pizzas? Excellent. Rectangular (except for gluten-free), crisp crust, fresh toppings — exactly what you want from a proper pizza.
The service is always sharp and friendly. Napoletana has become our go-to spot. It’s not trying to be trendy. It just is that good.
I have celiac disease, and the minute the server (whose name is also Monica) found out she was very diligent in making sure my food was safe! She double checked each dish so that I had no worries about eating :)
Stopped in after hitting up the Kittery Outlets. Went around 3:00 so the place was close to empty. The food and drinks were AMAZING. I got the Burger with an adult milk shake. My wife (gluten free) got the Reuben burger with the apple pie margarita. My wife said it was one of the best burgers she's ever had. Server was accommodating with my wife's gluten allergy and to d came out quick. We will be coming back ASAP.
Honestly, I’m disappointed. I ate here with a couple friends, one with a gluten intolerance and a shellfish allergy. We informed our server of this when we ordered and she was great. When food arrived, immediately after this friend received her food, we were informed that she couldn’t eat her fries because the chefs found a crab cake in the fryer. It was okay and the server even got us free mashed potatoes for her. When the new plate came, we caught that her bun for her sandwich was in fact, not gluten free. She then just ate it without the bread because we were so fed up because as well as this, multiple of us found weird bits in our drinks, one that we pulled out even looking like a moldy piece of cheese. The servers were great about this though, and apologized profusely. Unfortunately I can’t say I was satisfied with my experience here.
We've been here 2x, and both times, the food, cocktails, and service were outstanding. I was happy to learn that their Karaage Chicken was gluten free and it was so delicious!
A go to place for the Gluten Free folks in our family. Most of the battered/fried seafood option have a GF variant that's really well done. Overall high quality and great location.
As a gluten-free vegan this place is a dream! It’s one of our two favorite local restaurants. Eating outside on the patio this summer has been wonderful as we’re over getting take-out with all the waste (they use plastic containers which we reuse.)
Kind, helpful staff who recognize us with smiles. Delicious food. My favorite is the Vegetable Korma made dairy-free. Veg section on menu, GF labels. Very reasonably priced for the area.
Great food. Everything was well prepared and seasoned perfectly. Some of us are vegetarian, some keto, some gluten-free. It was really easy to mix and match multiple entrees we all could enjoy. The shrimp rolls were amazing; so fresh and delicious!!
We sat at the bar (AJ was great), and all of our dishes and drinks were delicious! They have a gluten free menu (both cross contamination ok, and not ok) too, which was good for our group. I love places that give you a bottle of water to refill your own glass. The whoopie pie sliders for dessert was the icing on a wonderful evening.
We've always loved the atmosphere at Row 34 in Portsmouth. Oysters are fresh and delicious with a depth of variety. Last night, I ordered the wild shrimp with asparagus, parmesan and meyer lemon dish. The dish arrived, and then I realized it came with (delicious looking) pasta. But, I don't eat gluten. (Note: the server asked if there were any allergies, and I said no, as it isn't an allergy and I figured I could order appropriately.) The server and chef were gracious and so helpful. The chef remade my dish with rice--honestly the best dish I've ever had at Row 34. The pasta dish looked so good, too. Highly recommend.
Great gluten free options!! I loved today’s visit. I ordered the fun size veggie Bennie with a side of corned beef hash. The hash was on the spicy side which was to my taste. . The Cemita sandwich and speciality fries lived up to the positive reviews. Apologies the picture was taken after enjoying 1/2 the meal.
Hearth boasts an impressive exterior and gorgeous interior. It is warm and opulent, with cafeteria style dining. Given few gluten free options, I ordered in the cafe/ bakery section: a turkey BLAT sandwich on gluten free bread; it came with house made pickle slices and chips. It was not clear if the fryer was dedicated for chips or gluten free foods. I waited about 15 minutes for my sandwich before seeing it sitting on the counter in front of the cashier; he had not called my name. The sandwich was tasty, but $15 felt steep. I noticed bus bins full of dirty dishes and overflowing trash. I really wanted to enjoy my lunch at Hearth, but for me, it wasn't worth the visit.
During our recent day trip, we enjoyed lunch at the Thirsty Moose before heading home.
This restaurant has an impressive selection of beer, cider, hard seltzer, a full bar, and non-alcoholic drinks. Their expansive bar is backed by a continuous wall of TVs and more dot the walls of the dining areas. The open restaurant has plenty of seating, especially along the bar.
Their menu has all the classic pub food, some with an inventive twist and clever names. They have a gluten-free menu available but not a dedicated fryer. I really enjoyed my cauliflower crust Greek pizza, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the Bullwinkle burger and was able to upgrade it to two patties. Our server, Sean, was attentive, friendly, and made sure our experience was perfect.
This is an excellent location to stop by for a meal for solo guests, couples, families, or groups. We'd definitely come back to Thristy Moose the next time we're in the area.
Tuscan Market is centrally located to Portsmouth with a very cool vibe - many plants and relaxing lighting to make for a nice ambiance with a date, family, friends and even solo. The food and drinks are good (Amalfi Mule & Mussels my personal favorite) but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu, especially pizza which has a yummy gluten free option.
I dont do reveiws often but this place deserves one !!!
If you want great food awesome atmosphere this is the place !!!!
My wife and i travel 50 miles to eat here. the gluten free pizza is the best i ever had !!!!!!!
Been to many other places that do even compair. My wife had grilled chicken salad and it was huge and fresh.
#worth the trip.
#love the flare
#cant wait to get back there.
Thanks 😊
My wife has celiacs and we both are allergic to shellfish, Heberts is very accommodating to both are dietary restrictions and the different rooms are like going to 3-4 different restaurants but with the same great service, food & coffee!
My husband and I have been to The Library Restaurant previously. We decided to dine there again for Mother’s Day 2025. We made a reservation for lunch and we got a phone call the day before letting us know they upgraded us and put us in the main dining room in front of the fireplace, super awesome!
When we arrived, we were seated right away and then promptly greeted by our server, Leah K. She was kind, funny, polite and made suggestions every step of the way. We first ordered drinks from the bar, a dirty martini for me and a margarita for the hubby. We then ordered steak tartar from the starter menu. I have had it before at other fine steak houses, but I have to say, this one was not great. It was chewy, lots of fat and not much flavor at all. Next time, we will pass on the appetizer.
The main meal: I ordered the 8oz filet medium rare and my husband ordered the gentlemen’s cut rare. Both steaks were done to perfection. We also ordered a side to share, potatoes au gratin, which were amazing. I ordered another drink, but it took so long, I was going to cancel. Our fabulous server, Leah K, said it will be made, but at no charge to us. Very kind of her to rectify the issue. We ordered dessert to go, the chocolate layered cake, chocolate mousse (GF) for my celiac daughter who had to work :( and a slice of carrot cake for me. All desserts were good, flavorful. The carrot cake was really fresh when I had a bite of it before bed, I was so full from lunch, I didn’t get to enjoy it on Mother’s Day.
Overall a great meal and wonderful service. I am sure we will be back again.
Had an opportunity to eat at Behind the Plate last night. What a great dining experience. We started with the fried cauliflower bites appetizer. Perfectly cooked with a very tasty horseradish black pepper sauce. They were prepared with a tempura instead of heavy breading - delicious and gluten free. I opted for The Pesky smash burger - a double smashed beef burger with thick cut slab bacon, lobster spread, buttered corn, lobster meat and greens on grilled potato bread. I didn’t want it to end. As good as the burger was, the star of the show were the potatoes. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. No ketchup needed! Excellent service and John, the owner, stopped by the table a couple of times to chat about our meals and how he conceptualized the menu. I look forward to working my way through the rest of the menu.
We made a last minute visit to Tour for a Birthday dinner. We didn't have reservations but they got us in, even though they were busy. The host was just lovely about it. We had a fabulous waiter and we went all in with appetizers. We got the Tower, chicken marsala skewers, tater skins and artichoke dip. It was all delicious! We finished it off with a slice of gluten free carrot cake that we all loved and had no idea it was gluten free. Watching folks play golf was fun as well. Thank you for helping us celebrate a special day!
I had always wanted to try this restaurant and it was wonderful!! We went before Christmas and it was decorated beautifully! The food was amazing! I had the lasagna and I savored every bite. The warm bread and dipping oil was the best I've ever had.
Sadly, I've just been diagnosed with Celiac, so I need Gluten Free options now. But I want to come back and have that lasagna again, so I may have to "cheat" just once.
Smaller than I expected, so get there early. I'm torn as to which was the best mussels or the fresh, out of the shell oysters? No problem I got both! Gluten free was no issue either, yeah. We'll definitely be back
Amazing roast beef sandwich! And they have a huge gluten free bun! I just have a wheat allergy so I'm not sure about cross contamination but it was a nice surprise.
Salud is an absolute gem in Portsmouth. I work downtown and I love having access to not only a phenomenal salad spot but just such wonderful employees. Michelle is so kind and goes above and beyond every time. Sometimes I just pop my head in to say hi!
Also, for Celiacs, this is the spot. Michelle will actually look up each ingredient and sauce on her computer to share an ingredient list with you so you know what you can and can’t eat. My mom is a very very sensitive celiac and she feels confident eating at salud (loves the Buffalo Chicken Bowl!)
