Ranch Camp is part bike store, part restaurant/bar. I want to spend more time at both. To sound like a nerd, the thing that grabbed the most of my attention was the stylish nature of some of the bike helmets. I noticed this before I took a gander at the menu.
The menu, the menu! Two different selections of fries made it a hard choice to pick only one carb, but the Friendly Fries were a definite win. The two different dipping sauces that came with the Friendly Fries were great. The sweet potato fries were fried and salted to taste, and provided an excellent platform to deliver the flavor sauces that came with it.
The portion size of the food is something to write about and notice. The Cobb Salad was healthy, designed for afternooners who are coming back from a hike or a bike ride. The pulled chicken, along with the bacon, gave it good texture along with the rest of the salad.
Gluten-free options were available, and their drink selection provided a few options for the person who is gluten-conscious. I'd say that it's hard for a business to run two separate functions, but somehow, Ranch Camp does it.
One last thing before you finish reading, if you plan on staying in the Stowe area for longer than 3 days, you may want to come back here to try some of the other menu items. It all looked so good...
Incredibly friendly and informative staff with an amazing atmosphere. They offer a wide range of gluten-free options, including bread and pasta substitutions. All of the food and drinks were top-tier. I could not recommend this place more.
We had a wonderful experience at Shakedown Barbecue and Stowe Cider. We arrived at 7 PM on a Saturday night and we’re quickly seated. The wait staff and chef were highly knowledgeable about gluten-free options and were very accommodating regarding our family's allergies. After dinner, the owner, Mark, gave us a brief tour of the cider production. The food and cider were delicious; we can't wait to return. PS. The nachos were the kind that is put together and then baked in the oven & the cheesy gooeyness that makes them the best! On top of all of this, Tim Reynolds was playing on the stage in the next room over!
Good drinks and food. Ordered the gluten free mushroom pizza and it didn’t taste like cardboard or sadness. Forgot to take a photo because I was famished. Would order again!
We were looking for a breakfast place in Stowe around noontime and most of the places were already done serving breakfast. We kind of stumbled upon The Skinny Pancake while on our drive to town and called to see if they had gluten free options and were so excited to find out they did for our daughter with celiac. Upon entering you can instantly feel the Vermont warmth and style with the exposed wood, fresh made coffee from Artisan brand and smell of fresh crepes. The service was friendly and the crepes were delicious! My daughter loved her gluten free Chocolate Hazelnut crepe and asked to come back again! The vegetable crepe was so tasty and flavorful. Highly recommend this place!
Gluten free eggs benedict was a pleasant surprise but somehow only got 1 poached egg instead of 2, and probably paid more for it (GF bread not marked on the menu).
UPDATE: When alerted to the issue, they were very responsive and refunded me for the missing egg. Recommend checking them out!
Pros:
The room was a good size, and it/bathroom were very clean. Newer and updated bathroom. Comfortable bed. Had a mini fridge but no microwave.
Enjoyed sitting out on the 2nd floor terrace outside our room, great view of the mountains and cow pasture. Even got to go down and see the highland cows close up. Beautiful grounds and views.
Cons:
$35 resort fee, even if you don’t do any of their “activities”. Some of which they do charge for. Want to hike with 2 goats? $65. Go birdwatching with a guide or a wagon ride? $40. Milk and cookies in your room? $20. Either be all inclusive & charge a flat resort fee and include all options or get rid of the resort fee and charge for each activity or amenity you actually partake in. This was listed no where on the website and only included at the bottom of the confirmation email.
They also put a pending charge on our credit card to include all the activities we MIGHT do. So instead of $279 for the room it showed as $600. Was assured the extra would drop off and only the cost of the room would go through. Such a money grab and terrible to nickel and dime people.
The walls could be better noise proof. Our 2nd night a young family with a toddler was next door and made noise as kids do. They went in and out their door multiple times to let the kid run up and down the hall and each time had to almost slam the door to shut it. Kinda hard to relax when you can hear the neighbors.
It was very obnoxious getting multiple texts and emails confirming check in information, and then getting check out texts in the afternoon prior. All the spamming was unnecessary.
Not enough parking for actual guests. The main parking lot across from the hotel was full and as it was dark couldn’t find where to pull in to the lower lot so had to park down the street & walk in the street as no sidewalks and we didn’t want to walk in wet grass since it was raining. The lots are gravel/mud. Need better signs and lighting at night, at least until 9pm. But once we were in our room we loved how dark it was and that not a lot of outside light came in the room.
Bfast was very underwhelming. For $25/person I expected the food be hot. Potatoes and sausage were barely lukewarm , bacon was cold and eggs were barely warm.told our server, who was very nice, and the restaurant manager came out to offer something made direct from the kitchen but had already eaten most
of it as we couldn’t flag the server sooner. He did comp the meal though which was appreciated. Large variety in the buffet.
Dinner tasted good, however, the server was a rude jerk. Barely acknowledged us and decided we weren’t worth his time when my mother and I decided to split a meal due to our bfast experience and having a late lunch. We would’ve cancelled our dinner reservation except we would’ve gotten charged. We only made the reservation due to the gluten free menu options but it changed between the time we signed up, which was only a few days. GF options were not appealing but we didn’t want to lose money.
At check out, all we owed was the 2nd night. Lady at the desk quoted a higher price and the amount was the breakfast that should’ve been taken off. She kept insisting that it was noted in our file. That’s great it’s noted but not if it wasn’t actually taken off. A guy in the office behind her was listening in and verified that the charge needed to be removed.
Overall: beautiful place, we didn’t mind the style as other reviews complained about. Customer service was good but the way things are priced is a bit ridiculous considering how much they charge just to stay.
We sat by the bar and were served by Brian. Drinks were made to perfection, the brussel sprouts and wings were incredible.
Brian went above and beyond to accommodate for my gluten free wife. Overall exceptional experience, will be coming back next time we’re near Spruce Peak
Pretty nice menu with interesting things. Server was lovely and was really helpful about gluten allergy. Food was good. Pretty busy with a lot of tables of kids when we visited, so definitely loud but overall enjoyable.
Burger was awesome! Gluten-free bun was delicious and did not fall apart like they usually do. I scarfed it down before I could even get a photo.
Vibes were excellent and loved the decor.
We had their Masamman Curry and Drunken Noodles. My girlfriend who wasn't a big fan of thai food until that point definitely came out being open to try more of it. Excellent food. Not to mention we asked our food to be vegan and Gluten free, and our requests were honoured very well. Thank you, would love to visit again.
Easily the best restaurant we have ever been to. This culinarily experience is pure magic. The road to get to the restaurant, walking in the front door, the common area where you can enjoy a drink and games around the fire until your table is ready…..then you sit to eat…..and it gets even better. The food is full of a flavors exploding and combing in your mouth. The staff are all so amazing, they truly make you feel at home. The atmosphere is unmatched, there is an upstairs and downstairs, and I can’t even pick a favorite! Upstairs is a whimsical experience and downstairs is a warm, roaring fire, tavern! We have tried both and I love them both! When we come to Stowe, this is the one place we always so back to! To the Edson Hill staff, you guys knock it out of the park, every single time! I have never had staff, actually take as much time answering our questions, giving us recommendations when we asked, and making us feel completely at home as you did last night. Also they were beyond accommodating with food allergies and have a separate fryer for gluten free. Edson Hill you are our favorite ❤️
Bagels were solid, but not the best I’ve ever had. I liked the cinnamon sugar bagels, brought me back to old school Panera before they sucked. They did have gluten free bagels and were careful with allergies for my friend.
Always a must visit everytime we stop in Stowe. They've always had some of the juiciest burgers, but they've only gotten better in the last year. Larger options, including turkey, salmon, and black bean burgers, as well as lettuce wraps and gluten free buns. All while staying true to that juicy deliciousness.
My husband and I have been striving to find the right fried chicken that is gluten-free. A friend of ours told us how incredible the family style gluten-free fried chicken was from Cork and we just tried it for our first time.
We have tried multiple restaurants in town that offer their version of fried chicken, but this Tops them all!
We both were craving it again and had been so thrilled with the crunch and flavor!
The four star review is because they have removed this from the menu, so disappointing
This lovely restaurant and shop were directly across the street from where we were staying. The mother and daughter team were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. We absolutely loved the indoor fire circle.
I had a latte with oatmilk and it was delicious! They also offer gluten free bread, so that their sandwiches can be served gluten free. Great find and fantastically warm atmosphere.
Went on a quiet night for a chill dinner for 2. Got wings and 2 burgers. Food was exceptionally tasty, one burger had a significant amount of dirt on the lettuce. Service and atmosphere were very laid back for such a quiet night which is what we were looking for. I would go back but would avoid anything salad based or uncooked. They have a great gluten free options menu and I felt they do go the extra mile for dietary restrictions.
Wonderful coffee shop. We stayed at a villa up the road and I would walk down every morning and get there when they opened at 7. I would work till about noon making sure to buy something every couple of hours (there were no signs saying it was required but I consider it good coffee shop manners). Sitting beside a snowy window with a crackling fire across the room and enjoying a delicious cinnamon bun and latte while knocking out some work was perfect and kept me stress free during my vacation. The staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was perfect, and the food and drinks were great. They also had some gluten free baked goods that I was able to take back to my wife who has a gluten allergy. Very thankful I found this place.
