One of the best meals of our trip. Octopus starter followed by Blue Warehou (fish special)/lamb (all superbly cooked) and orange cake. Coeliac friendly with excellent cocktails and a great selection of wines. What’s not to like? 10/10

I'm from Christchurch and I've been to many cafes for breakfast. Powerhouse has been the best breakfast I've had for a long time. They cater really well for gluten free patrons. I went twice in the weekend. Their pancakes were gluten free and soooo delicious. You can't often get GF pancakes and these we fluffy and tasty. Their egg dishes all come with the best potatoe cakes. Well done guys!

Amazing service from Jess. She took great care of our table tonight and was very careful about our coeliac needs and allergies. Thank you so much Jess for the great energy and care.
Also thank you to the kitchen for the delicious food

Dinner was okay. Their pizza sauce is way too sweet for me and I didn't care for it. Glad they had a gluten free crust but it wasn't the best I've had.
I got a $18 burger and I feel like I ate a $36 burger filling and tasty and gluten free. My partner bought a fish burger and finished the whole thing (that's a 1st) and those chips where mean as! 💯
Chill vibes with a great beer selection and unique options, plus you can fill up your rigger—definitely worth navigating the parking!

Delicious meal enjoyed by all 3 of us dining. We started with the marinated artichokes, warmed olives, and zucchini fries ... then had a pizza each which were the Diavola, Salmone and Capriccosa. All pizzas were fantastic including one which was gluten and dairy free. Service was friendly and the ambience was great too :)
Enjoy beautiful views, live music, and a relaxed atmosphere while savoring a thoughtfully designed menu and great wine selection.

When your wife has significant food intolerances, it is wonderful to go somewhere that can cater to all her needs. Gluten and Dairy Intolerant and Allergic to Citric Acid. The Food was perfection. The Service was Great. The Wine just washed it all down. A Great wee find.

Amazing atmosphere and service, but the star was the epic vegan food. Heaps of gluten free options too. We over ordered and have no regrets. Wish we had a place like this back home.

Booked today for lunch thinking would beat the usual Mother’s Day rush - so did everyone else as restaurant was packed but staff were amazing rushing around taking orders - checking on drinks etc and the food was up to usual standard. My friend is gluten intolerant and waitress spent tine talking through the menu with her. Excellent lunch - thank you Old Vicarage

Stopped in at the fish n chips but no gluten-free options and lovely young guy directed us to the pub for celiac people, so across to the pub we went, wow, what a friendly welcome and yes we do celiac friendly meals, big range of options. Wasn't disappointed with chicken tenders, chips and coleslaw.
Great service, friendly bar maid and highly recommend the pub for grub.

The Lotus-Heart is an exceptional establishment in Christchurch, which includes a vegetarian restaurant, gift shop, and health food store. The restaurant offers an extensive menu of vegetarian and vegan dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I appreciated the restaurant's commitment to sustainability and ethical practices, which was evident in everything from the eco-friendly packaging to the fair-trade coffee and tea. The restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for a satisfying and sustainable vegetarian dining experience.
The gift shop at The Lotus-Heart is a delightful addition to the establishment, offering a carefully curated selection of unique and beautiful gifts made by local artists and artisans. I was impressed by the shop's commitment to sustainability, with many items made from eco-friendly and recycled materials. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful, and I found the perfect gift for a friend.
The health food store is another gem at The Lotus-Heart, providing a range of organic and natural foods, supplements, and personal care products to support healthy living. The store stocks a wide variety of locally-sourced, organic produce, including fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains. They also have a range of gluten-free products, herbal teas, and spices available. The store offers a selection of nutritional supplements, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal remedies to support a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, they offer a range of personal care products that are free from harmful chemicals and toxins.
Overall, The Lotus-Heart is a must-visit establishment for anyone looking for a satisfying and sustainable vegetarian dining experience, unique and sustainable gifts, or natural and organic food and personal care products. The establishment's commitment to sustainability and ethical practices is evident in everything they do, and it's no wonder that they have become a beloved institution in Christchurch.

This place offers a touch of class in a unique environment. We had a birthday brunch there recently, it was superb. What was one of the best moments was seeing my daughters face when her gluten free pancake arrived looking just as good as normal food and tasting amazing. There was a lot of choice to meet various dietary requirements and all looked good. we will definitely be back.
I have been to two different Lone Stars twice in the last couple of months as a coeliac customer and am thoroughly disappointed with the lack of knowledge and availability of GFO for a coeliac. Get a dedicated air fryer, thicken your sauce with GF cornflour and you would open up options. I can go to Armadillos and get a good steak with mash and and GF mushroom sauce for $10-$15 less. I’m not paying $45 for mash and garlic butter. Sometimes I don’t want a burger!!
Honestly, skill up your staff and open the options for those of us who don’t have as many of them. I find eating out a chore and it shouldn’t be at such a large chain especially in todays world.
Charming spot with cozy 'old skool' vibes, delicious bites, and a great atmosphere for anyone looking to relax with a warm drink.

Staff was nice but we weren’t given our entree and had to ask again for our sides we had ordered. Also things labelled gluten free on menu are not safe for celiacs so would not recommend for celiacs.

Me and my partner went here and had lunch on the balcony, absolutely delicious food, albeit smaller portions - but filling. My partner is celiac, so we went for the Gluten Free options as the dishes are made to be shared. We ordered the Thai Black Beef Salad & the Chicken Skewers... no problems, chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce was unparalleled. Beef had a little bit of gristle but overall was very tender & flavourful.
Will definitely recommend & visit again.

Calamari and cauliflower were amazing, great flavour and the dipping for the calamari was particularly inspired.
Got the chowder for a main with extra garlic bread for a main, poor waitress forgot until she came back to the table but rectified fairly quickly. Chowder was delicious but nuclear in temperature. We got the pasta for the other main with added fish - the fish was perfectly done, but the pasta was very one dimensional and unbalanced.
The staff were very quick to rectify when I asked for it to be coeliac friendly, big kudos to the waiter that stepped in to get that fixed up. Overall pretty good, but got stuck between two loud tables in a corner while the rest of the restaurant appeared empty.
Remarkable dishes with clever flavor twists make for an unforgettable experience, though the music could use a little update for a better vibe.

the sausages where unexpectedly good and the gluten free burger bun was better that expected
Could not tell you what we enjoyed the most as it was all on par with it's self
Went to order a cheese cake. And the guy behind the bar kindly remind us there's gluten in base and gave us alternative options 👌👌👌.
I would say. 10 stars. But google only lets ua put 5
Really nice food. A bit pricey and some items a bit spicy but worth it overall. Old style seating could do with some cushions. Quite a few vegan and gluten free options.

Consistently top quality food and friendly/ attentive service. We have been to The Goldfinch multiple times over the last year and every time, we are blown away by the deliciousness of the food. We are slowly working our way through the menu. Mum is gluten free and a huge portion of the menu is Gluten Free. Even the cannoli! And it is all so yummy! I highly recommend anyone prioritise dining here.

There is something for everyone here, my recommendation is go early or go late as it gets extremely busy and can sometimes be hard to find a table. So many gluten free options at the 9 different restaurants, we loved this as our daughter could order pizza while ordered spicy Thai food.

Quirky place that sells second hand stuff and antiques as well as food and coffee. They have a vegan gluten free breakfast option of baked beans, tomato, hash brown, and patty that you can have any time of day. For non-vegans the bagel is really nice.

First of all.. the customer service is incredible! When you place an order over the phone - you feel like you are ringing a friendly mate.
I ordered 5 burgers, 4 x the Easterly & 1 x the Hawaiian Laden (celiac friendly) & 4 Fries. I surprised my fiancé and his mates after a long day laying a new driveway! They all were like OMG (you’re amazing!) earned serious brownie points haha THANKS guys! We will be back.. I was just asked again where I got the burgers again! So tasty!
Bright and airy vibes with stunning water views and a reputation for delicious, beautifully presented dishes.

The rudest experience I’ve had in New Zealand. BF wanted a drink so headed there to order one. Unfortunately I am coeliac and so have to be very careful where I eat so sourced food from a safe eatery and came over to join him. The waiter came to bring his drink and said we couldn’t have food so I explained the situation. I asked if they served coeliac safe food and he said no. If it had been packed out and we were taking up a space (even though we were paying customers) I would have more understanding but the place was literally dead, we were the only ones there and we sat outside as well.
The manager stormed out the second my bf finished his drink, snatching it off the table and berated us. I tried to explain I had an allergy but she refused to listen. She Said her staff had made a mistake and they do supply ‘coeliac safe food’ (clearly they do not as the staff was completely unaware) and told us to move along. Walking inside and calling names at us
Based on other reviews this is not a one off experience.
Take a few steps next door, to the Akaroa Fish & Chip shop the service is excellent, so friendly and kind, food is so good and theres a reason it’s packed!

Overpriced for the experience. Two people finished their mains before everyone received their meal, the gluten free option just had carbs removed entirely (not substituted) and wasn’t gluten free as our friend got sick.
