My croissant loving son was diagnosed with celiac disease in September. I almost cried today watching his happiness as he ate a chocolate croissant at Mariposa’s. 💚
I traveled from Sacramento to try this gluten-free bakery. I was very surprised by the variety of items available. I wish they would open a location close by.
I don’t understand how they’re still in business. The service is decent, but the baked goods are terrible. I tried them years ago when there were hardly any gluten free bakeries around, so they were a decent option considering there was almost nothing else available, but after all these years nothing has improved and there are far better options out there. The frosting is awful and they really need to develop a new recipe. The cakes are dry and just don’t taste that great. One of the items i got was so disgustingly sweet I had to throw it away after a few bites. Everything is completely overpriced especially considering how terrible they are. I’ll just keep going to Modern Bread and Bagel and Kirari West because Erin Mckenna’s is not worth it with the quality of their recipes
Nice vegan and gluten free options, in both sweet and savory. I really enjoyed my French Affection crepe. The coconut cream was decadent. Nice atmosphere, and seems like a true small/family business.
We need to talk about the outstanding quality that this bakery is pumping out, all in the name of gluten free goodness. My experience started with an instore visit while I was in LA for what needed up being THE BEST gluten free bagels and donuts I’ve ever had. The customer service was on point and the goods delivered.
I live in Seattle so I resigned myself to it just being a special treat when I visited LA. But luckily for me they deliver. Getting fresh baked goods send by mail is always tricky but I was relieved to see they knew how to package and seal their goods so they arrived in flawless condition. So I’m living my best life here eating the delicious challah, donuts, cheese buns and bagels like I’m the king of the gf universe.
Go and give them your money, in person or on their website because life is too short for crappy gf baked goods, and we’ve all had plenty of those.
The gluten-free brunch of my dreams. Came here on New Year’s Day (yes they were open) and was greeted with open arms. Everything on the menu is gluten-free, so fresh and delicious. I had the breakfast sandwich as well as the persimmon ricotta toast, and the chocolate chip sea salt cookie. I also got a Matcha latte and just wow so good. Every bite I took was better than the next and the waiters were so kind and accommodating. They get their gluten-free bread all the way from San Francisco and it is a delicacy extreme. Cannot recommend this place enough.
My wife and I loooove Just What I Kneaded (the pop tarts are insane; the crunch wraps are a MUST!) and Justine's Wine Bar (all around one of our favorite date spots), but I'm writing this review specifically to rave about the amazing and most perfect wedding cake that Kneady Cakes/ Just What I Kneaded created for our wedding day!
Our cake was vegan and gluten free - we wanted gluten free since my mother is celiac (she was very grateful for a GF cake and she loved it!). The cake was moist and delicious! We were all very impressed with the gluten free option - There honestly was no difference in the gluten free and the regular cake. And it felt "lighter" to eat!
We opted for a lemon cake with lemon custard and raspberry jam on the bottom layer and chocolate with raspberry jam filling on the top layer. It was insanely delicious and beautifully decorated with frosting succulents to match the desert theme of our wedding. The Kneady Cakes team packaged it carefully and it was sturdy + easy to transport in an insulated box all the way to Joshua Tree.
We had a wonderful time with our cake tasting, which consisted of trying cake samples via 6 different flavors of cupcakes accompanied with jars of jam and custards. It was difficult to choose, but we're so happy with our decision!
The lower layer of our cake was 8" and the top was 6". We were able to cut about 30-40 slices, easy. For a 15 person wedding, it was a perfect amount for everyone to enjoy a few slices + we had extra to freeze for our anniversary. Everyone LOVED the cake (they are still raving about it!) and it was a highlight of the post-ceremony celebration! We are SO happy to have purchased our cake from Kneady Cakes.
We can't recommend getting a wedding cake(s) from Kneady Cakes enough! Worth every penny. We'll be back for birthday cakes in the near future. We are lucky to have such a fantastic bakery and such an amazing team of bakers in east LA!
Delicious, gluten free, vegan options and non coffee drinks! Wish they would get a better vegan cream cheese option but the hummus is a great alternative
Gluten-free HEAVEN! I recently became gluten-free due to an auto immune condition and was so sad to have to give up my beloved bread and pastry products. That was until I heard about rising heart bakery! Their take and bake cinnamon rolls, millet bread and bagels are off the chart good! Yes, you will spend a little bit more but it’s absolutely worth it to keep these delicious foodie staples in your life! Even if I wasn’t gluten-free I would still absolutely keep these in my pantry!
Wonderful place on the Coast to eat breakfast, excellent pastries and robust coffee, delicious. Many gluten free options too. Great place to sit inside or outdoors, and enjoy your morning. Don’t miss this, its a gem!
LOVED: Fun atmosphere. Great menu. So many fresh, creative choices. The food presentation is spot on. Easy access to water and condiments. Quick beverage service.
LIKED:
Out table server (she delivered the food. You order at the counter) was friendly and worked to take care of us after the ordering server had messed up our order. She was great! Ordering was taken wrong which resulted in delayed food and overcharge. The food seems real fresh. It was very good - creative - but a bit greasy for me. I should have skipped the cheese on my tofu scramble and skipped the James Dean sausage. I don't like greasy. I think others would have loved it. The tofu with peanut was tasty.
MEH:
The gluten free French toast was ok but not great. I like eggy French toast. This was airy and fluffy. Others may have loved it.
I ABSOLUTELY recommend this place and I would come back again. I would just change my order a little. I do wish they had some egg free breakfast options. I'm thinking this would not be a good place for a vegan.
Staff was excellent! I told them I had celiac disease and they said they could get me almost anything on the menu. Got an Amy’s burger and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was!!
Gluten free bagels?! And flavor options?! I am shocked and ecstatic. This was my first time coming here and I am so pleased with my food and the experience. The staff was very friendly and told me they can make any flavor GF bagel if I order in advance. The GF bagel didn’t disappoint… I will be back soon!!
I’m gluten free due to an allergy and Well Grounded is a gem to have found in my local community. They even have a dedicated toaster for their delicious GF bagels and are very careful with cross contamination. 5 stars for sure!!
This is a fantastic little coffee shop with a great little menu for breakfast (and gluten free selections--bread and bagels). Prosciutto toast/paninis, smoked salmon bagels, baked oatmeal, breakfast burritos, etc. Everything is very tasty with good ingredients from local vendors.
They also have a decent selection of local and CA beer for those wishing to imbibe...Staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is good for chilling out or working on your laptop.
Highly recommend stopping in if you're in the downtown area. Parking can be a little weird, so just be prepared to find street parking nearby.
