The other Paia fish market on the island is far superior in taste, quality, and service. This paia however was really bad. We found hair in our food, our order was incorrect THREE TIMES. They did not take our food allergy concerns seriously when we returned the food back. The lady taking orders obviously hates her job. Service was very slow. Management needs to step up at this location & take things seriously. But we still love fish Paia, just not this location. Rice was not cooked properly or flavorful. Fish was cooked perfectly though. We hope this review is seen and taken seriously as we are repeat customers and love to support local businesses that offer gluten free and dairy free options.
Great gluten free burgers and buns. I use to love to go here for the dedicated gluten free fryer. However, on my last visit, that changed. The fries are now made in a shared fryer. But the burgers, wings and salads are amazing!
Amazing beach-side restaurant! The food was great, and our waiter, Kobe, was amazing! He was knowledgeable about my gluten allergy and my friend's nut allergy and gave us all the info and accommodations that we needed.
Food was delicious! Services was excellent. Our server, Julia, was friendly, efficient and helpful. My husband and I are both celiac and they understood and made sure our food was safe for us. Would highly recommend!
If I could do negative stars, I would. Story time. Husband & I chose this place for the gluten free burger bun option. We went to a previous restaurant that we thought was GF, it was unfortunately not. Husband already ordered/recieved his food to go. We explained this to the host & asked permission to bring husband's food in so that I could order and eat with him - THE HOST AGREED AND SAT US! We were then harassed by both the sever & manager seperately about the outside food. We explained to them both we were here for the gluten free option, and husband would order drink(s) ect. Didn't stop the manager from being rude to us AFTER we already explained our situation and were seated without resistance. As someone who worked in the restaurant industry for 10+ years, I was appalled. Train your staff better; don't agree to seat customers who are being transparent and then harass them anyways.
Don't spend your money here.
Such a cool place to eat! I got a spinach bagel made on gluten free bread that was a little disappointing because it wasnt super flavorful, but my husband got the pineapple pizza on gluten free crust and that was super good! I appreciate there being gluten free options! They will make the bagels or sandwiches with gluten free bread! And they play hawaiian Jesus music and they just put on such a nice atmosphere here. :) this place deserves more business!
Do not come here if you are looking for safe dining for gluten allergy or celiac. Go to Lulu’s Waikiki instead, where they have a wide variety of gluten free items and DO make the effort to avoid cross contamination, unlike this restaurant.
Absolutely loved our meal here! I have celiac disease and our server Nico was extremely knowledgeable about options that would be safe for me. I got the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and it was devine! I would highly recommend dining here, especially if you are celiac or gluten intolerant!
The food was amazing! They had a lot of gluten free options, the refills for the ice tea were free, waitress was so kind.
I would definitely recommend this place!
I just love this place! First and foremost the staff is amazing, I came here with my 9 month old and my hands were full, and I believe the employee’s name was Daryl, he went out of his way to help me. I couldn’t have been more grateful…this isn’t off that one experience, I’ve been here nearly everyday for a month. The staff here is very kind, and the atmosphere is great!
The coffee never disappoints, and being that I’m gluten free, there aren’t many options, but the ones I do have are amazing.
Highly recommend their cappuccinos, and their gluten free almond cake, and their gluten free chocolate caramel dome.
Great açai one of the best of the islands. Typical Brazilian includes milk powder and condensed milk. Reasonably priced. Fast and friendly service. Includes gluten-free granola.
Best gluten free waffles I’ve ever eaten in my entire life!! However, a breakfast for myself, husband and our 3 kids cost us $157!! It didn’t come across as very child friendly, however, the child menu was great (for non celiacs) and the kids got good value on their meals.
Great place for variety. Portion sizes are large and plentiful. The wait staff are lovely and were very informed about gluten free requirements. Have eaten here twice during my stay and no issues after eating. Great gluten free choices available. The fries are cooked separately and are gf also! Thank you for a wonderful meal.
If you want to come and eat here, come early as it's very popular and you may have to line up and wait a little, but the line moves quickly.
Atmosphere was decent & inviting. Service was basic with self ordering. Gluten Free French toast was burnt on the underside. Pretty much ruined the desire to go back.
No frills restaurant with very good food, staff was very knowledgable and able to cater for our coeliac daughter (which we found to be a struggle in other restaurants around Waikiki). Food was lovely, great place for a quick meal.
From someone who NEVER writes reviews...
When you pair great taste with a waiter who was on top of his game,
It makes for a great meal and what would be our normal go to for dinner out if we were locals!
The great service started with Tony being extremely knowledgeable of celiac disease to the point of understanding cross contamination and being able to tell us which foods to avoid because of it! Not something we're used to back home.
We ordered the Guava BBQ St Louis style ribs. They substituted the fries for garlic mashed without us even having to ask. The flavor of this sauce if you love a sweet sauce this one has an amazing flavor and has no spice/kick to it. Unfortunately the rack that was brought wasn't the greatest of quality of meat. We didn't ask for or expect anything to be done, we even turned down the replacement that was offered. Before we knew it, either the owner or manager was at the table insisting on making up for the toughness of the ribs. He had another half rack brought out and they were amazing.
We visited this Ihop 3 days in a row. Each day we had the pleasure of Joanns company. She was absolutely amazing!! I have gluten allergies and she made sure to do everything in her power to take it safe. She also remembered mine and my husbands order after only 1 visit. I am from Canada where Ihops that are left have garbage service and food. Not here in honolulu. If we come back this will be our breakfast place. Thanks so much Joann for such an amazing breakfast experience 3 days running.
Best Acai Bowl in town? That's absolutely true! As I already got my breakfast on the way but wifey wanted to try, I declined a waffle and just grabbed some iced coffee. As we got the Acai Bowl they surprised us with some waffles on the side! Wifey is gluten intolerant so I sacrificed myself for those heavenly waffles.. Go get there, guys! It's not the last time we went.
A Must-Try Gem: Goofy Cafe and Dine Exceeds Expectations!
My recent visit to Goofy Cafe and Dine was an absolute delight! This charming spot truly lives up to its "cute" reputation, offering a fantastic dining experience from start to finish.
The star of our meal was undoubtedly the mahi-mahi. Every member of my family ordered it, and we were all in agreement – it was absolutely delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the accompanying chardonnay butter sauce was a revelation, adding a rich and flavorful touch that elevated the dish.
To quench our thirst, we opted for the fresh-squeezed raspberry lemonade, and it was just as impressive. Perfectly tart and sweet, it was a refreshing complement to our meal, and another unanimous hit with the family.
We also indulged in a couple of starters: the Kulua pork and the Hawaiian beef jerky. Both were excellent, setting the stage for the wonderful main courses.
Beyond the fantastic food, the service was truly great. Our wait staff was not only friendly and efficient but also incredibly knowledgeable, especially when it came to dietary needs. It was reassuring to have such well-informed staff who could confidently guide us on gluten-free options.
Goofy Cafe and Dine is a gem – a place where delicious food, a lovely atmosphere, and top-notch service come together to create a memorable dining experience. We can't wait to go back!
Horrible spot …says farm fresh and what not ..I got the fresh turkey breast bacon cheddar on a hero …they literally gave me pre 3 slices of cold cut turkey from the package not even fresh cold cuts paid 15 dollars for that ..and got my wife’s order completely wrong after ensuring her she would get some gluten free options gave her the complete wrong order .she ordered tacos they gave her a trash burrito ..u guys suck ..looks at my pics for the bull shiizzzzz sandwich
I went to this restaurant with some colleagues for dinner. I had the local catch with Peruvian aji and it was amazing. Hands down the best meal I had while in Honolulu. One of my colleagues is gluten intolerant and they were able to accommodate her too. Definitely recommend it.
Great menu and plenty of gluten free options. Have a separate gluten free menu that walks you through substitutions to make meals GF. Quick and high-quality food and drinks. The gluten free coconut date bread is amazing and worth the visit just for that.
Overall the food and drinks were terrible. Bonus there is a gluten free burger and fries, don't get too excited, it was served on a dry bun (that fell apart when I picked it up for the first bite) with flavorless meat and brisket and no sauce offered. Their usual sauce is BBQ and not GF so I had to flag down the server for some mayo at least. Atmosphere was busy and there is a beautiful view but also birds pooping above us on the umbrellas and tables/chairs. Server was friendly. Mojito was terrible. Overpriced because of location. 0/10 would not recommend.
My mom and I have been to Basalt restaurant several times during our two week stay in Hawaii, and each visit has been exceptional. The consistently amazing food, especially their gluten-free options, never fails to impress. The staff is not only friendly but also remarkably attentive, always making us feel welcomed and remembered. A five-star experience every time!
Great breakfast spot! We were seated right away, no wait on a busy morning! Outdoor seating was gorgeous and very comfortable. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating of a gluten allergy. We had the açaí bowl, chicken wonton ramen, and fruit bowl. All were excellent! I would definitely recommend coming for all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)!

Love this place waitress was outstanding and she took care of us. Have a gluten allergy along with one other friend that has it too and I can't wait to go back tones of option for us. Would highly recommend this place for the celiac out there.
Do not bother. I am local, but this was the first time I ate breakfast at iHOP. What a disappointment. I ordered from the Senior menu. Even though the portions are smaller, the prices are GREATLY inflated. If you have an AARP card, you can get a Senior breakfast at the Grand Slam restaurant at Kūhiō and Kapahulu for $20, which includes a drink AND the tip. iHOP doesn’t have an AARP discount, and the small breakfast was $18.59. With an iced tea and 20% tip, my total was nearly $30 for one person. You can get a better deal nearly everywhere in Waikiki.
Now, ABOUT THE FOOD: firstly, unlike the Grand Slam restaurant, iHOP does not offer a gluten free bread option. So my breakfast consisted of two scrambled eggs, a small portion of hash browns, and two small, thin rashers of bacon. I asked for the eggs “soft scrambled”; they were hard. The hash browns were only browned on one side, and consequently underdone.
SERVICE: the service was good, Brad did his job as one would expect and he was given a 20% tip, in spite of the food. I do not believe in holding a server responsible for the kitchen help’s wrong-doing, nor the corporate price structure.
I realize that they need to pay rent and having to seat one senior citizen at a table is not very profitable. But here is the thing: I go out for breakfast once a week. They’ve lost at least 25 weeks of my patronage. Moreover, they’ve lost 100% of the business they might have gotten with my visitors, who are many.
On my bus ride home, I happened to be seated next to their expediter and had a discussion of my experience. The expediter told me that they were short of cooks today and that the manager was even cooking. I told him it was his job to make sure “bad” food didn’t get served, but that I understood that he had to make a choice between making patrons wait longer and serving orders properly prepared. He told me he did see “a couple of orders that went out with hard eggs”. I’m sure he regretted it; we had a very nice conversation. But I will never go there again, nor will any of my guests.
The icy atmosphere... supposedly they had a gluten-free option and alternatives but they only offered me one dish. They brought me beef rice in a bowl without even a plate below, but it was an acidic mixture with a terrible combination of flavors... no bread... no cookies... 1 is too big...
A beautiful place to have breakfast. The problem is that the website says they offer gluten-free pancakes and once there they told me I could only have eggs and sausages.
My friends say it was good
We were in Waikīkī for a week and had breakfast here 4 times. The staff were very kind and accommodating and food was always delicious. Good gluten free options
Overall the food trucks had a great selection of food. Even with some members of the party being Gluten Free. The Poke Bowls were fresh and delicious. And the drink at the same food truck location was amazing.
Gluten free avocado toast in Waikiki - what’s not to love there? Food was excellent and very beautifully presented. Staff seemed overwhelmed and tense - a couple of extra workers trickled in later but it still took almost 30 minutes for them to produce two orders of avocado toast. It was worth the wait but they need to work on their flow!
We have a gluten-free menu at Week End Brunch. I visited on a Saturday without a reservation. I got in without lining up.
Eggs Benedict is gluten-free. I also had the beef loco moco. Both were very nice from the presentation. Eggs Benedict has something like bread in it, but thankfully it's gluten-free. The loco moco beef was really tender and I was impressed. The meat was topped with furikake rice, and both the appearance and taste were novel and delicious.
Since I couldn't eat it, I got a takeout pack and a paper bag. There were so many cafe lattes that I couldn't finish them all, so they put them in a take-out cup for me.
The staff was also polite and pleasant, and I would like to visit again.
Lovely location with a great ambience. We loved all of our food. Apps: octopus and tuna tacos. Everything was delicious. We also ordered salmon (fantastic green curry sauce), the tuna, lobster roll, and black cod. The kitchen was also incredibly accommodating as we had someone with a high gluten intolerance. They served all the sauces on the side. Stefan was the best waiter and always ensured that we were doing well. Loved the service and entire vibe of this place.
Photos are of the tuna and cod.
HI Burger – A Must-Try in Honolulu!
I recently visited HI Burger at 342 Lewers St in Honolulu and was thoroughly impressed. The burgers were juicy and flavorful, with the Kalua Pork and Cheeseburger standing out as particularly delicious. The fries were fantastic, and the staff provided super friendly service. For those seeking gluten-free options, they offer lettuce-wrapped burgers. While the fries were a bit small in portion, they were equally as delicious. Overall, HI Burger offers a delightful dining experience that I highly recommend.
