I had heard nothing but great things. I decided to come as they had gluten free options and it’s rare to find a place with a GF hot dog bun.
The gentleman who took our order was very nice and the food came out efficiently. The taste of the food (2 dogs and a brat, two fries) were great, my nieces enjoyed theirs a lot. Mine tasted great, although the GF option isn’t really a hot dog bun…it was more like a sub sandwich bun. Within an hour of leaving this place I was SO SICK. Nausea and severe stomach pains - which is what happens if I am accidentally exposed to a fair amount of gluten. While I understand this is not a dedicated gluten free restaurant, I have eaten at many other places that are not either. I suspect Steve’s Hot Dog cross contamination practices are very lax & this is disappointing. If you’re going to offer GF items, you need to be knowledgeable and attempt to at least not make people sick!
Before we left, we waited to use the rest room (one was out of order). An employee came out and he had the worst smelling B.O. I have ever experienced. We were gagging in the bathroom. It sort of grosses you out when you know someone is working in the kitchen and they have a body odor issue like that.
Went for dinner before the P!nk concert. Every freaking where was packed and overloaded. Even with the extremely long lines, we were in and out within 30 minutes. They executed the chaos perfectly. Only 3 people working the line and fold was put in a timely manner and absolutely delicious. Will definitely be going back when there is less downtown chaos. They were also very diligent when it came to gluten-free orders.
My daughter and I arrived during lunch time on a Friday and as expected the store was busy. Staffing was adequate and we placed our orders quickly. We only had 1 person ahead of us in the wait line. Food arrived at our table quickly and completely correct. Love that they offer gluten free buns so my daughter can eat there.
We tried this place due to its reputation for gluten free options. Hubby got the King roast beef sandwich and he got enough roast beef for 3 sandwiches. He LOVED their gluten free bun. They also have a dedicated fryer for French fries. I had the gluten free chicken strips that tasted fine but the portion was skimpy. I think others with larger appetites might leave hungry. The salad on the other hand was fresh and huge. I could only eat half. This was the first time at a Lion's Choice and 2 counter people were a bit rude when I didn't know I was supposed to take my salad out of the cooler and for another incident. Also, none of the sauces or dressings are listed in the nutrition guide. For a business that does such a great job addressing gluten issues, I was surprised they are ignoring possible allergy issues in this part of their menu. We will probably eat her again but we won't my rushing back.
We decided to grab lunch at Hi-Pointe on a busy Saturday before heading to the arch. I picked it because they have a gluten free bun option. My husband, sons, and I all really enjoyed our burgers and fries! From the moment we stepped in we felt welcomed; the staff was so kind and friendly. We don't make it to the St Louis area very often but will always make a point to stop there when we do!
We recently had our wedding reception dinner here. Tim and his staff were attentive, considerate, and accommodating to our gluten-free guests. Our group sat in the arcade, which received a lot of compliments from our guests. When we arrived, pre-ordered food was ready. Tim communicated the entire way. The food was excellent! We will definitely be coming back soon for dinner.
We came because of the St. Louis Pizza Passport, but we will return for the unique flavor and quality. The special included a butter chicken pizza on naan crust. Personal size only but plenty to split as an appetizer. The masala fries came separately, but hot and fresh. A generous portion also boldly flavored. While a franchise, it is the only one in Missouri. They have two concepts, Pizza Twist and Taco Twist. Both feature Indian flavors on familiar pizza and taco styles, with lots of customization in sizes, vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan, and halal options. Located in the Central West End. We will look forward to returning.
Shhhhhhhh! Stop pointing out all of the chicken places I stop in....😁 however I am watching what I eat so when me, my daughter, and the grands stopped because they wanted Chick-fil-A I was going to pass on fried chicken but my daughter who has a gluten intolerance told me that she gets the grilled nuggets so I tried them. They are delicious 😋 and that is all I will ever order going forward. So glad that was an option. They also have salads that I love.🙂
I wish the folks that commute daily on 270 would learn how to zip the way people do in this drive thru!
I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews about the drive through/service. Everyone wants everything lightning speed these days and honestly this drive through is not bad at all. Patience is something many people have trouble with in today’s world. Make use of your time and listen to a self improvement podcast or something while waiting in the drive through. It’s not that serious. Practice patience. Honestly I’d rather go through this drive through line than attempt my copy cat chick fil a grilled nugget recipe at home. No dishes or frustration this way!
Also I have celiac and they take allergies very seriously which I can’t appreciate enough. I eat here 2-3x a week and I’ve never had a reaction. You don’t find many places that care.
This place will always hold 5 stars in my heart <3
Hot dogs and Toppings were great... Main issue are the buns.. Just dry and not pleasant to eat.
In reply to the reply,
Sorry I realized my initial review may have been too harsh. Yes the bun was not the best but really did enjoy the rest of the dog and especially the fries! Not sure but could be the gluten free bun??
Looking forward to going again, huge fan of the urge so want to support you all I can!!
