The pizza here is outstanding! Their gluten-free option stands out because it’s handmade, unlike the standard 10” frozen crust you find at most other restaurants. It’s easily the best gluten-free pizza we’ve ever had.
We ate here twice last week. The waiters were kind and seemed relatively well trained on celiac needs. My daughter had the fish tacos and then tried a bunless burger with a side sub (fries are cross contaminated). Felt good after both meals!
Although the restaurant has a good vibe and the staff is friendly, I do not recommend this place for 3 reasons. First, we got their 12” pizzas unaware that they only come in gluten-free. It was the worst pizza crust I’ve ever had in my 50+ years, although the menu does mention it, It is not very clear and we missed it and our waitress did not confirm if we were OK with gluten-free pizza dough. I’m sure their 14” with regular pizza dough is better, but I cannot be the judge of that since we did not have it. Second, they brought our appetizer and salad after the pizzas. Third, their menu states they charge an automatic 20% gratuity for tables of 6 or more. Our table of 6 was actually charged 22% gratuity instead of 20%, so beware. There are many great food options in Maui, but I would stay clear of this restaurant for the reasons mentioned above.

This was a very disappointing experience. We went in for my birthday dinner and I was very excited because the menu looked great. To start, the server was cold and not engaging at all. Some of the food was just ok, but very high prices for just ok. Two of the dishes were almost not edible. My partner is gluten free and I do appreciate the accommodation that was offered, but they up-charge $5 for boxed gluten free pasta. We constantly eat gluten free and it’s usually very tasty but her dish was just nasty. The pasta was hard/crunchy like it was burned in a pan after being boiled. She would take bites of her food then have to spit out the rock hard pieces of pasta. The pesto sauce was very bland, and the tomato sauce was way too sweet. I highly recommend you do not go here for any special occasion, they are not welcoming and don’t seem to care about any celebration. There’s some great Italian on the Big Island, look somewhere else.
We ordered gluten free pizza. It was real crust, not that cracker crust that you get at most places. It was delicious. The service was great and the food came out quickly. I definitely recommend eating here while in Kuaui!! There is a nice shopping center around it as well!
Talk about top tier service! Our waitress was SO friendly and knowledgeable! She made great recommendations and shared so much about the different dishes. The kitchen was super accommodating to both gluten and nut allergies. Our party of four all loved our meals (I got the pesto GF with shrimp!). We had just gotten off a long flight and this was the perfect spot to visit first, as we felt very welcomed. Would definitely recommend stopping in if you’re looking for something filling and delicious!
Fanfrickentabulous! We are gluten free and this establishment knows what that means. Fresh ingredients, different cooking utensils! Amazing! The GF pizza crust was amazing! Highly recommend! The owner is amazing too! Did I mention that this place is amazing!
Horrible service, average food, extremely overpriced.
The server was clueless, the chef wouldn’t make any exceptions to the menu (even for a gluten allergy which they said they could do on the menu) and the food overall was not good.
Please go somewhere else..
Hands down some of the best Italian food I have ever had - and we found it in Maui! The service was incredible, including the knowledge of our server on what my husband could eat that was gluten free. It is hard to find gluten free bread and Italian food that is good, but all of the food we ate at Matteo's was great.
Got the gluten free penne pasta. It was fresh and full of veggies that were absolutely delicious. The server we had was super helpful and nice. Near the airport so you can eat before taking off.
This is a wonderful restaurant for anyone, but especially if you are a foodie. Homemade, high quality ingredients, put together in ways that you would never have the skill/thought to do at home. Think: Food & Wine on the Island. Skip splurging on an expensive Manta ray tour, or something touristy like that. Splurge here. This is a small restaurant, but talk to the owner/server, tell her what you want to eat, and let her suggest something for you, and then just say "yes". Side note/bonus: all desserts are gluten free, and gluten free dishes (not just salads, pasta). Yesterday included Lilikoi cookies, chocolate cake, and one other item I cannot recall. My recommended order for a table of 3 or 4: Mortadella and burrata appetizer, any salad, and the squid ink dish (add the slow roasted octopus on top). It's the picture with the oblong dish (not round). Then, one of each dessert, and whatever mocktail they are serving. Enjoy!
Delicious gelato, and perfect for Celiac- they only have gluten-free (warm, crispy, delicious) cones! Plus I'm extremely lactose intolerant, but every flavor is vegan! Got strawberry and matcha, and it was really delicious; the flavors were fresh and perfectly sweet, the texture was smooth and creamy, and the cones were unbeatable! Super nice service too :)
This place has great food and cocktails. The service was excellent. Home made pasta with gluten free options! This is my second time here. Previously, it was for their happy hour, which was good. The only thing I should like see change is an update to the interior design and decor. It's dated.
PRO TIPS: before we get to the food, service and parking review-- I've been coming here to Longhi's for 10+ years just for the golden sunsets (see pic). Before it was called Longhi's, it was known as Chuck's. Surprisingly Longhi's restaurant has been open since 1976 on Maui, however this review is for the Ko Olina (Oahu) location. We actually stopped coming here years ago (when it was Chuck's) because the quality of service dropped so dramatically. However, Bob Longhi has VASTLY improved the service & created some rather delightful dishes - So it's earned a revisit. The focus here is on Italian Hawaiian fusion with incredible sunset views on the beach to add to the dinner ambiance. LOCATION--> Longhis can be found at the Marriott Vacation Club Resort. This Ko Olina resort area only has a few fine dining options so reservations are a must when you compare it with the volume of tourists here. Alternatives if Longhi's is booked include (Disney Aulani, Monkeypod or Roys). PARKING-->> Longhi's is on the Leeward (west) dry side of Oahu at Honu Lagoon, near Kapolei. Marriot Ko Olina offers valet parking that can be validated for up to three (3) hours. Be sure you get your ticket!! Alternatively, you can get free beach parking for the lagoon but it generally filled up fast. This resort is MASSIVE so make your way to the 1st floor of the resort. You will find the resort wheelchair accessible, with easy traffic flows, elevators, and attentive valet staff. If you Uber here from Honolulu, expect to pay around $70-90 depending on peak times with an estimated 30+ minute drive. CV19 COVID restrictions have been lifted here at the resort.
RESERVATIONS-->> they offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. it's highly recommended you get reservations since there is a lack of fine dining options for the high volume of guests of Ko Olina. Longhi's can handle large reservations too. SERVICE-->> Vastly improved since the old days of Chuck's. We felt the aloha spirit here from check in, seating, attentive wait staff, fast drink refills to a knowledgeable waiter who made us feel like a guest in his home. It was just the right amount of time between meals where you were not waiting too long between courses. FOOD--> ITALIAN Hawaiian fusion experience is the best way to describe it. That's the differentiator for Longhi's and THEY DELIVER an amazing rainbow of flavors in your mouth. The complimentary bread with lilikoi butter starts the experience. Everything on the menu can meet your guests tastes from vegan, vegetarian to gluten free options. The kids menu will meet their restless needs. If you don't know what to order, then the macadamia encrusted anything works along with pasta shrimp or the fish of the day. Appetizers are varied based on personal tastes, however the zucchini and it's sauce (see pic) will elevate your taste buds. The crab cakes and fried calamari appetizers are delightful too for a gateway into the entree. DESSERTS-->> I'm torn here on the lava cake and ice cream. You must order this minimum 30 mins before your meal so they have time to prepare. The lava cake, while served HOT & freshly made on site, did not serve our taste buds. Our expectations was an over abundance of certain flavors based on the description however it did NOT meet our expectations.. Average lava cake at best for a 30 min pre order. Just remember to order it BEFORE your meal. HUGE wine menu and the liquor drinks are not to "syrupy" VIEWS/AMBIANCE--> TO DIE FOR. Literally. Beautiful architecture. Incredible sunset views (see the pics). Request a sunset view on the pond. AWARENESS: On Tuesdays, the Marriott Resort offers a Luau so be aware of the crowds attending the luau with it's related noise levels --this may disrupt your peace. OVERALL: thank you Longhi's for helping to fill our birthday celebration with the Aloha spirit and giving us some.wonderful tastes to remember our island trip. We will return. Mahalo!
I said I’m gluten free and asked for rice and grilled fish of the day. This was not a problem at all here. I had ono which was delicious, very fresh tasting. Sorry for the photo. I already started eating before I took the picture
Gf Pasta is cooked in the same water as regular pasta- it is NOT safe for those with Celiac Disease. We asked the server who doubled checked with the chef. They refused to separate. Do NOT recommend. Why even have Gf pasta. Zero stars if I could for service. The restaurant looks cute if you don’t have dietary restrictions, but if you have any medical issues with food I would avoid.
I loved the live music that helped the atmosphere but idk if I’ve been to a resultant with more cranky staff. We waited 20+ to even be approached by our waiter. We were trying to get her attention for 30 minutes to get the check at the end.
When we did get our food, Half the food was clearly done significantly before it was brought out. To be fair we had a group of nine. Everyone from the greeter to the waiter seemed angry. The vibration here is super low.
The food was fine but nothing to write home about. To be honest, the crankiness when we asked about things like gluten free options just made you feel like a huge burden. Not impressed would never recommend this restaurant. You have lots of options don’t go here
Food took forever to come out. My chicken marsala was extremely undercooked. The gluten free bread was just plain toast. For the price it was no where near the quality. Beautiful patio thats about the only good thing. Service was friendly but slow and non attentive for a “high end” restaurant. Seemed short staffed. Everyone in my group left feeling underwhelmed.
We ordered gluten free pasta for my son who needs to be gluten free. First of all they said it would take 30 minutes. We went back after 40 minutes and they said it would be another 20 min. Also I walked through the restaurant after we placed our order, to use the restroom, and it was not busy. When we finally got the gf marinara pasta, it was falling apart, I think it was supposed to be penne, but it was hard to tell because they cooked it too long, and it was falling apart. The taste was not good and it was very bland. I don’t know why some restaurants, that are supposed to be Italian, don’t know that the pasta water needs to be salted, before you cook the pasta. I can’t believe we paid $27 for pasta that is terrible. We should have bought pasta from the market across the way and a jar of marinara sauce which would have been less expensive and better tasting. In my opinion this place just needs to close and hopefully something better will take its place. If you want good pasta and gluten free options go to Pueos Osteria in Waikoloa village.
Might be some of the best food on the island. Gluten free options abound, and they know their cross contamination practices. If non gf, the ravioli are amazing.
We had a wonderful dinner at La Spezia! My husband has to eat gluten free and was able to have a great dinner here. The waitress was very knowledgeable about what my husband could eat. Salads were great, I had the gnocchi and my husband had the bolognese with zucchini noodles and both were super yummy. It was a bit loud in the restaurant, but we were still able to carry conversation.
Seemed to have quite a few gluten and dairy free options. We had the cauliflour crust pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms which was delicious! Also had a salad which was very fresh. Looking forward to going back and trying something else! Mahalo for being allergy aware.
This place was amazing. They no longer do happy hour but so glad we stayed. They have way more gluten free options than marked. Def recommend, gf meatballs and buratta bar were incredible.
The service was excellent and the food was delicious as always. They even have GLUTEN FREE PASTA! the outdoor patio has a view of the water in the distance and a lovely breeze.
Taverna Maui is a great way to start of your Maui vacation. My wife and I came here for our first meal on the island. It can be difficult to find somewhere late to eat on Maui and Taverna Maui is a great option. This will give you a sense of what to expect on the island or Maui. They had gluten free pasta which was great for my new wife. There is a driving range right outside so if you have kids who golf they can hit some balls while you enjoy your drink and food. The inside vibes of the place is very hawaiin and we love the tiki torches. This place will give you the full hawaiin experience with mountain views.
Great to see this place reopened! Outstanding freshly made pasta and pizza. And plenty of gluten free options including handmade GF pasta, zoodles and risotto.
Our food was delicious. I had the grilled fish and veggies (gluten free). My coworker had their fish & chips (coconut panko). Both were very delicious! They also have outdoor and indoor seating and a restroom.
The food truck is actually parked on Kealohilani Ave where they have some standing tables and new large mural and the Double Fat Ice Cream shack with a little of it's own sitting.
The food is good and a little cheaper than other options in this expensive area. The portions aren't so large you will feel bloated from all the gluten. If you're hungry you can get some cheesy bread or get another course in the neighborhood.
The staff was friendly and helpful in helping me find the truck.
