This place is now 100 percent gluten free. I confirmed Celiac safe with the server. No gluten in entire restaurant and they are cautious with product sources. To top it all off, they make their own honey on their rooftop. My husband and I were so excited to discover this lovely restaurant. The staff is also amazing. Support this restaurant, we need places like this to stay open and thrive. Mahalo and Merci Bistro Hortus!
I'm celiac, so I have to be very careful about where I eat. They have gluten-free options, and after talking with the staff, I was put at ease knowing they take all the precautions necessary to avoid cross contamination when preparing gluten-free dishes.
The restaurant was great and the service was fantastic.
We were really disapppointed when we couldn't dine at Sapristi the day before as we didn't realize we needed to make a reservation. We planned ahead the next day and made a reservation and when we arrived we were seated right away at a spot outside. Our server was great and we went all out getting a pitcher of sangria to go with our parmesan fries appetizer and pizzas for our main course. They were very accommodating to my gluten free diet and unfortunately we were too full to try their desserts so I guess we'll need to make another visit one day! Thank you for making our evening memorable with a delicious meal!
Everything was just perfect! I have celiac and it was a dream to be able to order almost anything on the menu because they are able to adjust these options to be gluten free and have a knowledgeable server! Chez-Boulay is now our must visit spots when we come to Quebec City.
amazing, some of the best food we had in quebec. they have an entire separate gluten free menu, I felt really safe as a celiac. still dreaming about the cassoulet and creme brulee! service was also great, super friendly and knowledgeable.

The experience starts with a small crowded entrance space where you are supposed to wait until someone comes to seat you. Once finally seated, you'll wait for your simple order (crepes) for 40 minutes. Neither espresso nor hot chocolate are good, crepes are dry and tasteless. We only came here because they offer gluten free crepes and it was a big disappointment and a waste of time.
Based on a visit in Aug 2023.
The restaurant was busy at 6PM on a Monday. We didn't have a reservation. However, we were able to get seated quickly. Our waiter was pleasant, professional and efficient. She spoke English fluently. She explained the various menu options to our satisfaction. We were pleased to see that smaller portion sizes were an option. It was just right for us with the soup and starters.
Red wine was smooth and the espresso martini (not on the menu but our waiter said it could be made) was perfect after a long day of hiking.
Food was served promptly. The minestrone was not bad. My wife enjoyed the mussels with marinara sauce (sauce was delicious). Her main course of gluten free pasta with fresh sauce and basil hit the spot. My penne with arabiata was good too.
The restaurant serves gluten free pasta for an extra charge.
I asked for gluten-free (I'm celiac) and when picking up the order the chef specified that the pollock was gluten-free (iykyk the joy when a chef knows what he's talking about) and that he had done the best he could to vary the combo despite the restriction.
100% confident!
Recommend getting there between 5-6pm for outdoor seating. Lovely ambiance. Burgers were great. My wife’s gluten free bun did not fall apart which is a win for her.
We both got the Quebec burger with a salad and would highly recommend!
Homemade sodas, poutine, burgers and milkshakes. Top quality classics! I would definitely go back! Gluten-free bread available for burgers (but I didn't taste it) quick service outside the tourist season, as it can fill up quickly during meal times in summer!
Super meal. Lobster salad. Grilled salmon. Lamb shank. Veal medallions. All tasty and well presented on piping hot plates. Many gluten free items clearly marked on menu.
What a beautiful restaurant nestled in The Chateau Frontenac. It was a non pretentious, warm environment with atmospheric lighting. Lots to offer with its wide selection of food, especially gluten free. They have gluten-free bread to offer before your meal with butter, which is a plus. Since this option is not so widely offered. Highly recommend.
I'm a big fan of La Buchette. Our second time here and the first place we thought to book on a recent visit. The food is tasty and filling (breakfast menu) and there's no hassle substituting gluten free options for my girlfriend. Very enjoyable.
We were there with a large group. The servers were on top of everyone's orders and very conscious of any special dietary needs. I'm gluten-free, so they made small adjustments to the food to accommodate me and were very kind about it. All of the food was delicious and well presented. I would highly recommend this place for a special night out!
Tapas style lunch menu was great. Service was great. I am gluten free and unable to consume cows milk, yet somehow I had access to most of the menu with no modifications.
Really bad! Churros are outrageously expensive. They were dry and tasteless, and we watched them put pre-cooked churros into a toaster lol. Even if we didn’t see it, they certainly tasted reheated. On top of that, the service was abysmal, took us 20 minutes of standing in line while the one person working swept the floor. Anyway, don’t go here if you want a nice treat. Also 0 gluten free options no matter what people might say.
Restaurant in the heart of Quebec where we had an excellent meal on the terrace. The lobster is very delicious and the dish is very complete. Canadian style meat too. There is a gluten-free menu and dishes. Prices per plate range from about $20-$50. Highly recommended.
Very nice atmosphere! We love sitting outside. The tacos are not gluten free. The bangers and mash are very tasty and larger portion than expected. Prices are fair.
They have a gluten free menu and I had the escargot and Les Trois Mignons of cerf, wapiti, and bison, which was delicious. I learned on the walking tour it is the oldest building in Quebec City! Full of charm and warm ambience.
My daughter and I had a mini getaway to Quebec City for my birthday. This restaurant was highly recommended my locals. I'm gluten free. And not so easy at a Italian restaurant. I was mistaken! Joe was our waiter, and he was fun, kind and made a memorable experience. They brought a delicious 😋 cake to wish me a happy birthday with the staff, and the resident musician, who was playing the accordion beautifully throughout our dinner experience. The gluten free Alfredo pasta. Was no joke, the best I have ever had!! It's worth a trip to Quebec City to have it again!
One of the best gluten free pizzas I've ever had. Usually GF pizza is small, and from a frozen crust...this was 12+ inches and the crust was amazing. 10/10 and will be back again this week.
Perfect! We ate breakfast here every day of our stay in Québec because they offered gluten free options and were knowledgeable about Celiac disease. It was difficult to find gluten free options in Québec and when we could we would need to make reservations at least 24 hours in advance. L'Omelette never had a wait in the morning, was cozy, friendly, and delicious. Our big breakfast would get us through the day until we tried to find dinner.
This place is great! Love the cozy atmosphere. Our waitress, Clara, was amazing and so great at helping navigate the menu with my allergies (gluten and dairy!). My husband and I both had the sizzling plates which were delicious! Highly recommend!
