We had a lovely Tuesday brunch at Java Kai. I tried the Dilly Egg sandwich and it was delicious, with plenty of fresh dill. One companion got the Tropical Waffle which was covered in loads of cut fruit and whipped cream, a treat for the eyes as well as the stomach. Another chose a sandwich on gluten-free bread. The final member of our group was happy with their Acai Bowl. We selected various coffee and smoothie drinks. They all were tasty, although I was a little disappointed with the iced Thai Coffee which tasted much like any iced latte. There isn't a lot of seating here but we were able to find space at a table shared with other guests. I would certainly eat here again.

We had a great lunch at Pineapples. One of my son's biggest Big Island requests was to have a drink out of a pineapple, and Pineapples was the place to go. He had the Pi-no Colada with lava flow. And I had their Pineapple Pow. Both were amazing. They also had Gluten Free options for my husband with Celiac (which is very hard to find while traveling). In the words of my 11 year old son- "Everything is amazing here. It's the best restaurant in the world. This is a definitely a 6 star restaurant. 11/10"

This is our second visit in 8 years, and this is a solid option for breakfast and make-your-own pancakes. A grill is at the table; you can order various fixins for fun customization. Of course, they will gladly cook for you if you don’t want to cook your food. There are a variety of pancake flavor combinations to choose from, and they can be substituted with gluten-free/vegan batters at no additional charge. Various breakfast plates and pupas are available to choose from. While enjoying a couple of tasty self-cooked pancakes, I tried the Dragonfruit Chia Bowl. I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh and energizing combination of Chia, Dragonfruit puree, Greek yogurt, lilikoi, coconut, honey, and seasonal fruit. We enjoyed scrambled eggs customized with cheese and spinach. For a morning pick-me-up, the coffee didn’t disappoint. For a morning put-me-down, the Slappy Mai Tai provided a sweet and tangy flavor combination of white rum, dark rum, lychee liqueur, pineapple & orange juice, passion fruit & orgeat. Our service was very excellent, and the entire crew treated us courteously. The food was good, and we look forward to dining here again.

Cool Cat Cafe does have really good burgers. I disagree that they're the best on the island but they ARE very good. The location is great, the food is very good, and the staff are terrific. The live music is hit or miss. I recommend sitting a bit away from the music because it can be a little too loud if you're close. Cool Cat Cafe has gluten free buns so you can get any burger on a GF bun.

This place is hopping in the morning, line out the door to get in. The buttery cinnamony smell when you walk in is amazing. Service is efficient but friendly, and once they take your order it goes quickly. I had never been here before because I’m gluten free, but heard that they started making a gf version. If you eat it right away after it’s warmed up, it’s pretty good, but hardens up as it cools, and it was a little dry. Still, when everyone around you is eating cinnamon rolls, it’s nice to have one too:)

The experience was awesome. Delicious food, wonderful service. Our server was so kind and caring. I have celiac and she confirmed for me what sides were gluten free for me. The steak salad and Cajun fish tacos are great, as well as the truffle fries!
