Whoever we interacted with (I think the owner?) was very attentive to my friend and I, and the other patrons. I loved that everything what gluten free!! The food was classic and delicious. The frozen fish to take home looked vibrant and yummy too!
Julia made this an incredible experience! I am so grateful for Julia and The Mule, as a celiac and anaphylactic to Peanuts and Tree Nuts, my time finding restaurants that I feel truly safe is rare. This was the first place in Canada where I felt that safety to just explore the menu, relax, and enjoy. Everyone that came to our table was kind, informed, and awesome! Also the food IS AMAZING! Best tacos I’ve had in Ontario. Thank you again to Julia and the team for making a memorable meal and amazing experience. Will be coming back to Hamilton just for The Mule!
New owner (Raj) has really outdone himself! The new layout is beautiful—a fun, fresh vibe for sure! Food is still delicious, lots of variety (the gluten free fish n chips are AMAZING!), and the staff are very friendly. Will come back for sure!
Love it here. It’s so cozy. Lots of their little treats and baked goods are gluten free and I believe they are all vegan. Their brunch menu is good too! Very generous portions. They always play the perfect cozy calm music, you can reserve a table which I would recommend doing on the weekends. I’m the warmer months they have some patio tables out on the sidewalk to watch all the Locke street dogs walking by. The banana bread is 20/10. I also love their matcha oat latte with strawberry syrup.
I’ve never had a complaint about this place. Well, maybe that it’s not closer to my house 😂
Such good food, friendly service and some tasty gluten free options too!
We parked down the street in a parking lot that only accepted coins. $2/hr. (No cards accepted only coins)
When you first step foot in the door it's like being punched in the nose by an old moldy cloth. 🤢 Needless to say, we stuck around because we heard that that pop punk band 'Accident Prone' from the early 2000s has been seen there. 🤘
The staff are the cool kids you jammed with in school. Friendly enough and didn't seem to mind catering to our dietary restrictions of dairy-free and gluten-free. They were very accommodating.
If you are looking for Root Beer here, you won't find it. It's only Pepsi products (and even though Pepsi makes root beer, they didn't have it lol!)
The BEST thing about this visit.... APORKALYPSE NOW BURGER AND SWEET POTATO FRIES!!!!! I still dream of this pork on pork product. There is nothing as good as this. The burger patty is delicious, it's topped with regular bacon that was the perfect crisp and if that wasn't enough it was topped with chunky double smoked bacon (which I hope to be buried with one day). I swapped my provolone for vegan cheese (for those with broken bellies like me) And, if that wasn't enough.... they slather this little piggy in horseradish mayo!! Like what the funk?!? Who thinks of such a glorious burger lube?!? Bottle that and sell it, you'd make a killing!! I swapped the standard fries for sweet potato fries that came with a tasty dip and it was a match made on the farm!
I am STOKED that we stayed, that burger was like nothing I have ever eaten before. Thank you to whoever created it! It was simply gorgeous.
I hope to be back someday to enjoy that morsel once more!
We used to come here all the time - and it was great. Then last year we went and I noticed the gluten free pizza did not taste the same as it had. Took a break from Caro, then decided to give it another go, and it is disgusting. The gluten free dough *was* the best in the city (I’ve been gluten free for 10 years and tried many places), and it appears they changed the dough. Not sure why they would change it because the last 2 times it has been horrible. Couldn’t even finish a slice. Very disappointing! Will not be returning, and I no longer will be recommending Caro as a gluten free option
8 of us went for a work gathering and I can't even begin to caution against here enough!
From being sat at the incorrect table and moved, to tables thag wobble and having to finally swap thw table ourselves (after mentioning this to our server)
To only.part.of our ppl getting a drink and others flagging one down, apparently the breaded cauliflower os now needed broccoli without even so much as a heads up.
Orders were screwy. Salads with wrong dressing x2, I'm gluten free and ordered no bun but.got.the bun and when this was pointed out I got.a dry overcooked -borderline burnt burger without and condiments.
Another of us ordered a salad.with grilled chicken only to be asked a whole.later again what protein she wanted.
We were asked 2 mins after getting our apps how we were doing but not again.
The restaurant was awful, service & food.
As we.are management from a local store celebrating this was very disappointing.
We try and support local businesses but we definitely will not be back.
We came here last night with friends. It was a last-minute decision to try Bangkok Spoon, and we've wanted to go for a while but never made it until now. The atmosphere is very nice, with partitions between some tables that create a more intimate setting.
We tried a few dishes, including Bangkok Pad Thai, spicy noodles, tiger shrimp spring rolls, pepper beef, mixed vegetables, vegetable rice, and garlic string beans. First of all, I want to mention that our waiter was a very nice and courteous gentleman. However, he seemed to struggle with remembering some of our requests.
One issue was that the spicy noodles were forgotten in our order, which was a meal for one of us. While the rest of us were eating, he was still waiting for his dish. When it finally arrived, our friend, who is celiac, had to double-check to ensure that the item was gluten-free, but it wasn’t. This led to it being taken back to the kitchen, and our friend had to wait again for his meal while we continued to eat.
We tried to be patient, but with the two mix-ups, our food was getting cold. The waiter seemed eager to please but just wasn’t having the best night. We also asked for soy sauce, which was forgotten and required a reminder before it was brought to us.
After all of these service issues, when the bill was delivered, the spicy noodles were not taken off our bill, which our friend had to ask to be corrected. It should have been done automatically without us needing to ask. Thank you for trying to make it better by giving us a scoop of ice cream. I hope that the waiter has better days in the future.
Overall, while the food was very tasty, it wasn’t plentiful for four people, and the price was a bit high. For that price, we could’ve had an AYCE meal. While the food was good, the service had some hiccups that impacted our overall experience. I hope they can improve on that for future visits!
I have to eat gluten free as I'm celiac & family members kindly picked me up some GF morning glory muffins from Paisley Cafe to try. Wow...best GF muffin I've ever had!!! I will be making the 45 minute drive to see them soon (& I suspect often!) to hopefully get more muffins & try whatever other GF delights they have! I wish I still worked at McMaster University so I could visit them every day!! :-)
**Update - visited in person - do be careful if celiac as server used same tongs on regular gluteny treats on the GF treats. I didn't notice the tongs weren't fresh until midway through server packing up my goodies & I ended up having to give away $30 worth of treats as I couldn't eat them. My bad, I should have asked server to use fresh tongs when I ordered.
The sweetest staff ever!! I always feel so welcome at Mulberry :) the salty vegan cookie and cinnamon bun latte are a must. I wouldn't recommend for celiacs, but they have an awesome gf banana bread for those with an intolerance!
We travelled 2 hours to eat dinner here. Destination choice. Us and our friends (4 top) The dining room was busy, loud and full of laughter. The Kitchen was on a lull when we sat down for our 7 pm table, as we had a front row seat to see what they are up to. What they are "up to" is a LOT. As is the whole restaurant. Great greeting at the door, good well timed and solid service by the whole team, table visit from the Manager to say hello and chat for a minute. Very well made drinks, good wine selection by the glass, big tables, nice big chairs. Details. They have these covered. As the second rush hit, and the Kitchen crew was heading into what I know was the second stretch of service in a 10+ hour day, they did not let up. All of the parts of the dishes we ordered had their full attention. The salad, venison carpaccio and squash fritters were delicious, proportional and looked fantastic. The frites on the burger and flat iron steak (both cooked as ordered, delicious and served hot) were crisp and seasoned. The gnocchi was so good my wife purposefully did not finish so she could take some home to have the next day and my duck leg had crispy skin, soft delicious meat and slightly textured cabbage, with potatoes, proper lardons and a balance of tart mustard. There was dessert too after all of that great food, a smooth and full-of-real-vanilla-bean brulee and a light lemon tart. Espresso martinis after the meal instead of coffee. I am a full blown celiac diner who understands that there will be dishes that I just cannot have and yet I had numerous menu choices as well as un-requested thoughtful additions provided (gluten free crackers for my carpaccio) This is a restaurant business that you can go to knowing that all of the people that are here are working to put out the very best over-all experience they can, and have been doing so for the past several years. In a changing time of eating out and deciding where to go and what to get, my wife put it perfectly - "Go somewhere that can exceed your expectations" The French does just that.
SO rude. falsely advertised gluten free menu and then IDing my family and I when we are clearly 21 and over. pompously and thinks they are above everyone. we left and didn’t even order . what a joke. not loyal to locals.
This is a very cozy spot that my friend and I have visited on a few occasions now. Every time we are greeted with AMAZING service, everyone is so pleasant and knowledgeable about all the options available, especially for my friend who has a gluten intolerance - one of the few places that has a good amount of options for that dietary restriction. I impulsively decided on a dessert which also ended up being fantastic.
ALL their waffles are GF gluten free by default. Default was never so delicious as this! The Belgium Waffles had a perfect texture with a buttery moist chewy yet delicate airy interior and a crispy golden exterior. You can't make them better than this! Yum!! Thank you for sharing your talent 🙏
Excellent food, excellent service.
My wife and I held our rehearsal dinner at the Motel Restaurant and it was a great time. The vibes were really great, the service was excellent, and the food, wow the food.
The food was outstanding, they also had some excellent vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options for our wedding party who have those dietary restrictions. This was good quality food too, these restrictions were not an after thought they clearly made meals taste good with said restrictions and our guests loved them.
I would recommend booking your next event or dinner night at Motel Restaurant!
Had a wonderful dinner here! A huge thank you to the supervisor, Ak, who went above and beyond to assure my group that the cheesecake was gluten-free it was absolutely delicious! We truly appreciate the great service, and we’ll definitely be back. Thanks again, Ak!
First visit for brunch with friends and it was very disappointing...no coffee because their coffee machine was not working. The menu and reservation form indicates they have gluten free options and yet they had no gluten free bread/buns, so my eggs benny came without an English muffin. Overall, not a great experience.
We first ate at Baci in 2021 when only room service was available. It was a great experience and the food was really good. So for my birthday we came back so we could eat in the restaurant. My wife had the cod ( gluten free) and it was terrific. I had the Bolognese which was also very tasty but large enough that I am looking forward to having it again tonight at home!!
I should add that the service was also outstanding.
Clean, well managed and good value for the money. I like my pork not so well done but I understand that restaurants have to be cautious and not everyone likes pork on the pink side. The portions were good and they have gluten free rice-based pasta that my wife enjoyed. They even had GF bread to make a garlic toast! We each had a drink and found them to be reasonably priced too. So many establishments are gouging on that element now. We weren't expecting much from initial impressions but we ended up pleasantly surprised and would definitely go back if opportunity presented it.
Ancaster pur and Simple. Mariana served us and was very knowledgeable about celiac and cross contamination. It was much appreciated. She was so friendly and e never felt rushed. Food was hot when served and delicious!!
Ordered pizza from here for the family. It was delicious. I like that the pizza is not too saucy, the crust if fluffy and the toppings were abundant. I also love that they offer a gluten free option as well, it really made it easy to have the whole family involved in the pizza night! 10/10 would go again
I can’t believe I’ve only just discovered this place. I’m celiac so I need gluten free options and I’m always looking for new places. My husband and I ordered 3 appies which were all amazing - they don’t normally offer GF bruschetta but they made it work with pizza crust and it was amazing. Our entrees were amazing also. The server was so accommodating and didn’t mind when he had to ask the kitchen about modifications or whether something was GF. I guess the only Cons for me were that there were no GF desserts (not uncommon to be fair) and their menu didn’t include any indication of which items were GF or could be GF. Overall I thought this place was amazing and I will be going back for sure.
Food was meh this time. Wings were tough, rubbery. Fries were not crispy. What's wrong with the blue cheese dip? It's the oddest grey colour. Potato skins were alright.
I do like that there's a gluten free fryer and a few decent options for gluten free "pub fare" but this time we were underwhelmed. We probably sont hurry back.
Hambrgr had great selection for burgers and were even able to easily accommodate my gluten dietary restriction with a delicious bun substitute. I ordered the Hawaiian Punch burger and it truly was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The pulled pork's BBQ sauce and sweet pineapples balanced out the saltiness of the fried onion topping and savoury beef burger.
Side caesar salad was a little pricey at $6.00 for a small salad but was tasty and wasn't overwhelmed with too much dressing. I would order it again.
Overall, Hambrgr is a great value for a gourmet burger and worth spending a couple extra dollars for a premium meal. I have gone twice and will be back.
Exceptional customer service in all aspects. Waitress took my dietary concern very seriously and addressed the kitchen staff with it. My issue concerning their strawberry cheesecake gluten free dessert was very competently resolved and I needn't have been so worried. Much thanks 🙏 to all for making my experience very enjoyable and health conscious too.
I've stopped by a few times, and Peruviano is consistently delicious, and safe for gluten-intolerant people.
On Tuesdays, they have $15 tacos for three (pork belly, cauliflower/veggie, and chicken) -- and it was well worth it if you're feeling peckish.
They also have half priced appetizers with the purchase of a full entree (which are huge portion and delicious!). Would recommend to anyone who wants to support a local small business, high quality food, and Peruvian restaurant.
This was our first time here and all 4 of us enjoyed everything about our experience. We loved the atmosphere and the food was delicious. We had the cod, hamburger, salmon and braised beef. They had a number of options in the main dishes for my gluten free needs. Presentation was great too. Such a fun night!
Our niece planned their wedding at the Ancaster Mill Chapel and reception in the Mill. It was spectacular.
For sure the bride and groom were so thoughtful in their selections but the Mill delivered. The location is beautiful with the mill stream and stone work stairs. The staff we kind, busy making our event special- the staff were happy to be there and knew how to support a good party.
The food - excellent., complimentary the chef/kitchen team, you should be proud of your skill and care. I enjoyed the hors d’Oeuvres - several gluten free options all scrumptious. At the meal the salad was a feature- seeds and glazed walnuts, pomegranate seeds fresh green with a roasted squash base - wow. I had the prime rib. Again it was a treat.
We had a great time. Thank you!
Red Door catered a pizza party for us- our guests were greeted by the
Wood burning pizza oven Dave set up in our driveway. First up out were the gluten free pizzas- a delicious thin rice dough . Then Giovanni set to work- spinning his fresh dough into perfect pizzas, with a variety of delicious toppings- and they kept coming, easily the best pizza in the Golden Horseshoe, beautiful presentation- and a lot of fun.
Thank you for a great evening!
Love that BP caters to people with celiac disease. The cauliflower crust (only available for individual pizzas) is AMAZING - I defy anyone to recognize it’s gf! Everything’s tasty & the servers are friendly & pleasant.
Fantastic quality customer service; Matt and Rebecca were fantastic. Everything we ate was tasty and filling. True gluten free options that were actually worth having.
The Burnt Ends were tender and succulent, the Red Cabbage was just right--not too sweet-- and just as I remember as a kid at home, and the Fries were crisp and hot. Most important of the, the Staff were super helpful and friendly, and they went out of their way to make sure that the order was gluten-free, low salt, and that I was able to have it delivered. Exceptional service and food.
Very nice restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious! The portion sizes were perfect. Not too much and not too little. The iPad was nice and easy to use but it was a bit of a negative waiting for the server to confirm the order every time to have the order go to the kitchen. There was a nice gluten free section too! The service was quick and efficient. The burners worked well and we had ours changed once as there was alot of residue food after cooking and that made it hard to cook more. It was changed quickly once we asked. The temperature was great for cooking. The price of $38.99 is all day, for lunch and supper. There is no lesser price for lunch, unlike most other buffets. A bonus is this does include a bottomless soft drink or ice tea and the server is frequently asking if you want a refill but you basically pay for the drink with the $38.99 per person. The parking is free and the location is good. This is a nice place to try out, I recommend!
No matter where I go across Ontario, I cannot find Café Oranje's equal. The staff, the atmosphere, the coffee, the food... There is no comparison. I am delighted each and every time I visit.
If you are gluten-sensitive, there are always wheat-free options aplenty and their muffins are some of the best I have had in a long time. There is also gluten-free bread available if you want to get into any of their robust selection of sandwiches. And to any fans of oat milk, there is Earth's Own Barrista-style oat milk available.
The coffee is excellent - fans of black coffee, rejoice. It needs nothing added to be enjoyed to it's fullest. I simply tend to order lattes as a matter of preference.
The store is always clean and welcoming with an atmosphere that delights in clever simplicity. The owner reflects these values with her personable, easy wit, and her staff are always professional and courteous. I'm incredibly socially awkward and still, I find everyone who works here is really easy to talk to.
I am also sound sensitive but never feel the need to drown out noise here. Guests trend towards intelligent or pleasant conversation at a reasonable volume, and that over the sound of smooth jazz or lo-fi beats makes for pleasant background noise.
If you are someone who likes to work at the café, I have been using the space to draw and work on commission illustrations and have found it very easy to focus and get a lot done here.
The front door is a little small and heavy, but the staff are super courteous and if you think you will have any trouble with it, flag them down and they will absolutely help you. It's worth noting for the sake of accessibility as well, the bathroom is a rather small single-person room that requires you to ascend about two or three steps. As a result of the size and age of the building, there is no wheelchair accessibility.
The store is very lgbtq2+ friendly! I was asked for my pronouns (for context, I use they/them) and they have been well respected ever since.
All in all, I love this café. It is easily my favourite in the province. I am moving away soon, so I will dearly miss it. But I hope that it will continue to thrive so that whenever I visit Hamilton, I can stop by for a while.

Had my moms 65th bday with 14 guests - picked a set menu with some upgrades +add ons and we totally enjoyed ourselves! Highly recommend menu E upgrade pasta to sacchetti and add truffle fries for the table. We had some celiac/diet restrictions and everything worked out great for them also.
David was our server and he was very polite attentive and helpful. Thank you for the great service!
Peter helped plan the event with me and was very patient and helpful.
This is a great cozy neighbourhood cafe! The coffee shop has a variety of different seating from different tables to bar stools lined up against the window. They have a variety of baked goods with some gluten free options. I enjoyed a mocha which was well made and tasted great!
We hosted our wedding at The Diplomat and everything was incredible! Our event coordinator, Kyla, was super helpful throughout the whole planning process and answered all of our questions promptly. The restaurant is beautiful and required such minimal decor. The staff working the event made everything run so smoothly, from set up, to cocktail hour, to dinner service. The servers were amazing. The bartenders are so talented and our guests loved the cocktails. All of the food was DELICIOUS! Our favourite canapés were the fried halloumi and the chili chicken. The braised beef was to die for. There were vegan and gluten free options for our guests with dietary restrictions. Our guests raved about the food! I would highly recommend The Diplomat for hosting events!
My partner and I frequently dine here for Sunday brunch. We always enjoy the tasty food, the pleasant service, and the relaxed atmosphere. Deb was our server today and she was lovely. I appreciate that they have a gluten-free toast option for us GF folk.
