The food was delicious and the gluten-free pizza was very tasty, but the waiter was super-shy, it was quite embarrassing to see him looking at the women, nothing professional on his part, a shame.
Food was great and there is gluten/dairy free options available for all pizzas and certain pastas. They take celiac safety seriously and prepare gf orders separate from others.
Very, very delicious sandwiches and burgers. The best thing is that they can be adapted to suit celiacs, as they have gluten-free bread (although it's regular sandwich bread, not the typical Madeira bread that the gluten-free options offer). The fries are simple but very good and also gluten-free. However, we had to wait a long time for our food, even though the place wasn't particularly busy. Still, the waiter was very pleasant, and despite the terrace being on a busy street, it's very quiet.
A very pretty restaurant, we had a terrace under a pergola with vines growing on it. It's truly charming, modern, and beautifully decorated. We ate the two gluten-free vegan starters (mushrooms & lentil puree and Tom Yum soup), as well as the lomo saltado, the chocolate mousse, and the panna cotta. Everything was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, and rich in flavor. The service is discreet, friendly, and elegant. A must-try!

We had a delicious meal at Portaliano. The restaurant is able to adapt a number of dishes to fit a gluten-free dish. The menu is surprising and diverse and the dishes look good. As a starter we had the focaccia and grilled mushrooms with asparagus. Our main course consisted of risotto with duck and cod with potatoes. The only criticism was that the cod was probably overcooked, making it very tough.
We loved it. We had dinner there a couple of times, and everything we tried was delicious. The dishes are quite generous, and the waiters are very pleasant. They have gluten-free dishes listed on the menu, and some can even be adapted.
Located on the beachfront, you might initially think the price is a bit high, but it's not.
The pizza I chose was around €17, but most were between €13 and €15, and honestly, considering the size and how delicious it was, it's a pretty good price.
The pasta was spectacular, with a good amount of seafood.
The ice cream was delicious, too.
A mention of their extensive menu and vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and lactose-free options.

Decent gluten free 3 course set menus at reasonable prices - 24 euros - very good food but not enough potato... Chips would have been nice as an option.
The food and service are superb. They offer gluten free bread with the appetizer course. The staff is knowledgeable about allergens and were able to make gluten free recommendations. They have a gluten free brownie. Everything was tender and the wine pairings were perfect.
Delicious and authentic tasting Indian in Madeira! Service was great! Everything is well priced. They serve you pappadams when you first arrive with a range of condiments which all compliment each other well. We had the chicken tikka, brinjal (eggplant) and butter chicken. This was a great amount of food for 2 as servings are large!
Absolutely worth a visit if you want Indian in Madeira!
Great gluten free knowledge.
Found via the coffee trip app and as usual - it did not disappoint. A cute area with cool vibe and connected to an art shop/gallery.
Yummy macchiato and a gluten free cookie (which wasn’t too sweet!). Good service and a lovely place to read a few chapters of my book before getting back to the hustle of Funchal.
This is the best breakfast spot in Madeira! I spent 6 days on the island and visited this place 4 times. The food is delicious, the service is fast, and they have gluten-free options. It was a lovely touch that the waiter remembered my coffee order. Sometimes you have to wait a bit outside for a table, but it doesn’t spoil the experience at all. A solid 10 out of 10! When I come back to the island, I’ll definitely return here!
Unexpectedly tasty food for a mountain tourist cafe. The quiche was beyond praise, the burger and salad were simply wonderful, the variety and quality of the pastries would be the envy of any bakery in the city. There are even gluten-free products available. I really, really enjoyed everything.
Fala Fala is a very nice and amazing small restaurant, which is quite hidden, but worth to search for it. We (both vegan) enjoyed oriental Tortilla with fries (home made), Hummus with Tortilla and the Falafel with cream. Finally we had a gluten free sweet triangle as desert. Very good taste and super friendly staff. Prices are fair and we will come back for sure when we will be in Funchal next time.
Excellent Indian restaurant in the center of Funchal, very helpful staff. Price range comparable to other restaurants. Outdoor seating, live music. Good tip for gluten-free food. Highly recommended
A little hard to find but it is in the NEXT hotel. You have to call the next hotel to make a reservation and then. Go in the hotels front entrance to get access to the restaurant. Overall a great dinner. Very lowkey and quiet. GREAT for accommodating to celiac and gluten free. I assume they would be great at other accommodations.
On the plus side, gluten is indicated in the menu, and after the meal, a compliment is brought in the form of small pasteles de nata.
Of the minuses - rather strange service. Before I finished my order, the waiter had already turned to my companion, ignoring me twice.
Delicious tempura shrimp, but absolutely not tasty veal kebab. The meat looks like it was boiled and then browned on the grill. No spices, no salt. Very disappointed.
The atmosphere is great, I recommend booking a table in advance
Very nice restaurant with excellent food.
Whether it was a burger or pulled pork/beef, all the dishes were delicious. They also have a gluten-free option for their burgers, although I didn't find it on the menu. Just ask nicely. The burger bun is made with cauliflower and corn flour.
Overall, a great experience, and everyone was happy.
The grilled octopus in olive oil was amazing and one of the best meals I’ve eaten in Portugal traveling from Lisbon, Porto, Azores, and now Madeira. I informed our server Nikita of my gluten allergy and she was very kind and helpful (as she was throughout the entire meal). The chef accommodated the dish to avoid cross contamination by not grilling the octopus, which I thought might take away from the dish (and was more than fine with being VERY happy to know the dish would be safe to eat). But I can’t imagine it tasting any better! It was so tender and perfectly seasoned. My partner (who isn’t gluten free) had some of my octopus and agreed it was amazing. Nikita’s service, the food, and location made us want to come back and eat there again.
We ate here last night. The ambiance was so chilled and relaxed. The staff are very friendly and courteous and helpful. We had a large mixed selection of sashimi, sushi, nigiri etc and all freshly prepared and delicious.
I have an allergy to gluten and the staff were extremely helpful, making sure all the food was safe to eat. We had a delicious bottle of wine to accompany the food too. A VERY enjoyable meal indeed. We will return and would highly recommend this restaurant. Thanks to everyone for a pleasant evening.
A place with a great view, the staff did not speak English, the order was fulfilled after an hour of waiting, a different soup was served, it was supposed to be gluten-free, it was with croutons, the served was half-raw fish, it was not edible, the staff responded to the comments by offering to quickly provide the bill only after a clear request for contact The manager and I got a discount on the bill, but after spending 40 minutes waiting to be seated and another 1.5 hours in the restaurant, we left hungry and frustrated.
I definitely do not recommend it, the prices are like in an exclusive restaurant, the quality is a disaster.

Great food, super friendly people! They did everything so that I could eat gluten free. I could take almost anything! Really unique in Madeira, this way of looking at gluten.
Very friendly atmosphere. Tight in the middle of Funchal downtown. Very adequate for a quick and healthy snack. Ample provision for vegetarian and vegan diets, but also some provision to other more eclectic diet, including gluten free!
The service is competitive but very friendly.
Really lovely place.
Sweet tapas restaurant on 3 floors
Very good allergen labels on the menu for gluten, lactose and vegetarian. Lots of gluten-free and vegetarian tapas on offer 👍🏼
Especially the Piemontos de Padron look delicious! Prices are okay, around €6-7 per tapas
We ended up in this restaurant by chance. Unassuming from the outside, but much better inside than expected! Highly motivated, careful and attentive staff. When ordering, they even asked if you had any allergies such as gluten intolerance. Something like this is not yet a given. Small but fine menu and very tasty, exceptional food. Not huge portions, but good value for money.
Genuinely lovely people there and food is fantastic. I'm a coeliac freak and they have a GF pasta option but risottos are to die for and gluten free naturally. Partner had a fabbo pizza first time and then really enjoyed lasagne second....different nights I hasten to add lest you think we are oinkers or Billy Bunter....and I had risottos. 4 cheese risotto was so creamy and tasty that I almost thought of running to Funchal and back to make room for another except I remembered in time I'm a crippled old man and would have died immediately.
Thoroughly recommend this little gem of a place and its lovely staff anytime and really great prices.
I'm gluten-free, and they had options marked on the menu for easy reading. The food is delicious; I ordered the lasagna and I don't regret it! Finally, I want to add that the service and atmosphere of the place made the difference. Our first lunch in Madeira set the bar high.
really very good, nice atmosphere and good food. The shrimps as a starter were recommended to us and a good portion to share. Main course was a kind of skewer of sirlion steak, also recommended. In summary very good and the service is very friendly. My friend has a gluten allergy and they had no problems with it.
