My wife and I had a date night here, and with my gluten and dairy allergy I figured inbound be getting something plain like usual. But no, I had an actual MEAL that the kitchen made to suit my allergy! Including DF sorbet! The waiter James was on point in checking in and always available when we needed him. Will be coming back here when we visit Hartford again!
This is one of our favorite places- consistently good. ans great gluten free and vegan options. We like ecerything, but their mango lassi and tandoori chicken are our favorite in the area
Love, love, love the hearty, vegan, deliciousness served up at Fire N Spice! That's how I describe the deli-style options custom-served in 3 sizes. Healthful smoothies and other lighter fare are also available, as are sweet treats, including wonderful gluten-free cookies and cupcakes and ice cream. Chef Chris and Baker Jamelia (sp?, sorry!) are salt of the earth, and we are lucky to enjoy the fruit of their expertise! I stop in whenever I can, and I make special trips if it's been too long. <3
We ordered Hawaiian pizza and did not expect it to have pesto, which i usually love, but Sorella's pesto ruined it for the other pesto I've ever had.. like this is how pesto is SUPPOSE to taste like! Their tiramisu also!!! It melted in my mouth.. every single bite was AMAZING!!! And best of all, was my son's pizza. Vegan gluten-free White pizza. He didn't even want a plate! He insisted on eating out of the box! I had a taste of his crust because I thought it looked a bit burnt. Omg! It was delicious.. I'm so happy to find this restaurant and can't wait to try the rest of the menu. Very AUTHENTIC!!!
What a fun place. Reminiscent of Reading Terminal Market with an assortment of restaurant stalls. Large picnic style tables run down the middle. Fun music playing on the speakers. Had a fantastic meal at Flor Do Mar, delicious Brazilian food 100% gluten free. Loved it!
We really enjoyed Trumbull Kitchen. I feel much better eating gluten free and they have many choices for me. Thursday nights are half price bottles of wine… I ordered a simple salad with grilled shrimp and the cauliflower appetizer, FRESH, REASONABLY PRICEE & DELICIOUS!
At first, it didn't feel like a kid friendly atmosphere, but everyone who works here was very nice to my 2 year old. He likes it here. And the food here is GOOD! I will try coffee here soon!! Chicken and waffles for me and breakfast sandwich on a gluten-free dinner roll for him.
My meal was delicious. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. The truffle fries where amazing. The salad was fresh and a great starter. My only complaint is around the knowledge of the wait staff. For a restaurant of this type, I would expect the staff to have a better understanding of allergies and other food sensitivities. Our waitress had to consult the kitchen about what was and was not gluten free. A minor gripe, but something that can make those with food allergies uneasy.
red rock is one of my favorite places to go. before finding out i was allergic to gluten and dairy i went there multiple times a week for my lunch or dinner. their chicken cutlet is to die for. get a grinder and you’ll be a very happy person. i am incredibly grateful that i can still go there because they have a good variety of gluten free and dairy free options. you go because you’re hungry but you stay, and keep coming back, because you become a part of the family there.
I have been to this location twice. Once in November 2023 and then once again in November 2024. My first experience, back in 2023, was less than satisfactory. I went with three friends and the service was slow. It was a Saturday night and, while there were not many customers in the restaurant, it took us over an hour to receive our food. My friend had to send his hamburger back as it was raw in the middle. Our server was mostly MIA which was surprising considering he only had one other table. For my second experience, I decided to take my husband, toddler, and mother-in-law to lunch. I wanted to give the restaurant another chance. My mistake. We had to wait ten minutes to be greeted because there was no hostess at the front desk. There were four tables sat with food and one family waiting in line behind us. Again, the restaurant was not busy so I’m not sure why the wait was so long. When we were seated, we ordered our meals: a hamburger with fries, buffalo mac and cheese, a kid’s mac and cheese, and gluten free chicken tenders (an allergy- which is important to note for later) and an appetizer: fried pickles. After forty minutes of waiting, our appetizer arrived only minutes before some of our meals. My mother-in-law, who ordered the burger, was surprised to find it served on a gluten free bun. She called the server over and the server explained how, on our ticket, she had to write everything as gluten free so the kitchen must have been confused. Having had a gluten allergy for many years, I have never had this experience- only my food item is denoted as an allergy and the other people in my party get their food as normal. Anyway, my meal of gluten free chicken tenders was the last to be served. The plate consisted of little chicken pieces instead of full tenders (I should have taken a picture) and it was cold. The server was apologetic for all of the inconveniences and sent over her manager. The manager explained how she temped the chicken herself which is concerning considering it was unbiasedly cold. She said she would comp my meal and make the dish again, her kindness was appreciated, but I remain unimpressed with this location. If you wish to have a pleasant experience at Plan B, make the drive to Glastonbury.
Normally, I love First and Last, been coming here for years...but tonight they were off their game. Pizza was a little on the oily side, our first server tried to rush us a bit since she was close to the end of her shift, and then the second server did not know the importance of keeping gluten free crust separate from regular pizza. It upset one of our friends who then couldn't eat due to cross-contamination of gluten products.
Again, for years the original location is the only one I would go to, and the one I'd take friends to as a way to show them how great Hartford is. This was a tough one, and I do hope some adjustments are made to make this the happy bustling place I expect it to be.
Really great place to grab a quick bite to eat when you’re in downtown! Their gluten-free pizza was amazing! I liked that we had the option to sit inside or outside depending on the weather. The service and food here was great and this place will definitely be part of our heavy-rotation for pizza in the downtown area.
What a great find during our postpartum journey!! Jill and her team have been essential for us during the wild ride of a new baby and returning to work. The meals are tasty and great portions as well as guaranteed gluten free which is a big deal for our house. Absolutely beats the major meal delivery services out there and always nice to support small business!
Absolutely terrified.. called in to ask if the osso bucco is gluten free. The girl who answered the phone said she checked with the chef and they said it's not gluten free but they use light flour so it wouldn't affect someone who is gluten-free. I'm sorry, but you are not a qualified chef if that's how you handle food allergies.. I let the girl know that she should be careful saying that to people because they could get in trouble for it, let alone the chef saying that. Makes absolutely no sense..
This is not a gluten free bakery. I went there because Google claimed they were but they didn't have a single gluten free item . Additionally the coffee was weak and five dollars. 👎
Never thought of such pleasureful experience when stepped in Spice Venue for dinner. All the dishes we ordered were delightful, bursting with flavor and freshness.
We chose for Chicken Tikka Masala, Gobi 65, Butter Naan and Gulab Jamun, all of which were generously portioned and arrived on table impeccably flavourful, fresh and warm. They offer ample gluten-free and vegetarian choices. We'll surely return for more!
I'm a die hard Hartford fan and want to support small, local businesses at every turn, especially when they offer vegan/gluten free options. I've eaten take out from here a number of times, and it's always been good.
Yesterday, we ordered everything vegan, picked up, and realized when we got home that they had put regular dairy feta on my pizza and then tried ineffectively to pick it off. I called and they said it was "an accident if it happened" 🤨 and refunded the cost of the pizza.
Dear owner - putting ingredients that people aren't able to eat in food can make people sick or kill them. And despite my best efforts at eating around and also picking off the feta, it seems like there was more than I could sense and I am now ill because of it. Please teach your people how to handle food allergies, and if you aren't familiar with what "vegan" means, please learn or just don't offer the option.
I heard about this place, but didn't believe it was real at first. Afro Latino cuisine (not processed or ordered from elsewhere but locally sourced), cooked in an open kitchen while you wait. They even have gluten free options. Right off Charter Oak Ave, downtown Hartford. My favorite thing is that he's constantly learning and applying the latest health research, while keeping it tasty
Had dinner here in the back room with a group of about 50 people. Service was great, there were a lot of us but all servers friendly and helpful. Plenty of chips and salsa for the tables. Also easily able to provide a gluten free dinner option. Had a really great time here!
Others had said they had gluten free options here. They do NOT. When we asked if they could cook with oil and not butter, we were told “sure, we could deep fry anything.”
We left without ordering.
Could be fun place to go with large group that don’t have dietary restrictions as they have short tables with low seating for maybe 10-12. Louder music even at 10am.
Today was my first time eating at Lion’s Den and wow I’ve been missing out! This food is soo good! I eat gluten-free and was able to enjoy my delicious curry chickpeas, sweet beans, and pumpkin rice with veggies. The sweet beans and curry chickpeas were amazing. 🤩 I’m coming back very soon. Keep it up!
Drinks looked great. I had a business lunch and the food was great. They're familiar with gluten allergies and they can guide you through yummy choices
Hands down best Açai bowls and smoothies in Connecticut!!! Huge portions for both. Worth every penny. Everything is made to order fresh and customizable. They can do gluten free, dairy free and vegan - anything in their menu. They are also super careful about food allergies, they use separate blenders for nut allergy. WhAt a gem!!
Got a Samoas latte and it was pretty great! Came here with two co-workers and it's such a small little place but I LOVE that about it. There weren't seats available inside but there are picnic tables outside and it was really nice. Everyone of us loved our drink. One friend got a Spanish Latte I believe and my other friend got a lemonade with these other fruit flavors. They have gluten free options which was super appreciated!! The service was super quick and they have a bulletin board which contains all these local events. Super awesome little place. Would go again if I'm in the area 🥰
