We ended up at this bakery by accident today. I hadn’t ever sought it out before because of it being vegan, in my experience gluten free + vegan baked goods aren’t the best. Boy was a wrong, I had one of the best cinnamon rolls of my life here (including glutinous ones). The service was lovely, atmosphere was great and I will definitely be back next time I am in the area, the pie looked incredible.
Nestled in the first floor of the Embassy Suites in downtown Portland, this very active hub has a lot to live up to. Serving great food and spirits with quality one would expect at much higher end establishments.
It's very active and lively, so not the best option for a quiet experience, but fantastic if you want some of the highest quality for a surprisingly low cost. I ordered the frittata with potatoes, that came with a choice of toast. I requested gluten free bread, a side of sausage, and an Irish pick me up, (Irish coffee with an extra kick of espresso). All of which exceeded my expectations. I'm glad I stopped in, and I'm sure you will be too. However, expect a short wait as I'm not the only one that feels so highly of this spot.
Phenomenal food and service. All vegan options with consideration for those who need gluten food as well. A perfect place to satisfy that 'diner' itch without the ambient sausage/bacon stank
EDIT / UPDATE:
The general manager reached out to me immediately to figure out what happened, which I really appreciated. We figured out that their online POS system had a flaw that made effective order communication difficult (specifically when editing an order before checking out). They are diligently looking into the issue to get it resolved, and offered to refund me the amount for the item I ordered that came as a burrito instead of a bowl. My experience now has been improved drastically thanks to their commitment to improvement and customer satisfaction. Thank you again for resolving this so quickly and effectively, JoLa!
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I want to give this place a higher rating but I’m a little frustrated with their online ordering experience.
I did my best to pick certain options when editing each item in the online ordering section, but some of my choices apparently did not save correctly (as my receipt reflects a different choice than I actually made — and I triple checked my choices). For example, I asked for one of the items as a bowl instead of a burrito (which is an option they offer). In the receipt though, it says I chose a burrito. I even wrote a note in the “note to restaurant” section when ordering to ensure that it went through correctly (I wrote to them that I chose this particular dish as a bowl, not a burrito, as I try to limit my gluten intake otherwise I get sick). I also chose to add sausage and I got bacon.
So while it seems that their online ordering platform may be to blame, I did preface my preference for the bowl versus burrito and it shows up on the receipt, yet they neglected to pay attention to it. It’s disappointing.
The food is good though. I’d give that 4 stars. Would love for this to be resolved.
Outstanding. The food, the drinks, the service- all excellent. There are so many great restaurants in Portland, this one stands out. I have celiac, I felt so taken care of. Friends of ours introduced us to Lechon today, we will go back.
What a great experience. Family of six and we were all so well taken care of. I have severe dairy and gluten allergies and they checked and double checked any of my food choices. They were friendly m, considerate and very attentive to our entire family.
My girlfriend and I have been regulars at this stand for going on 4 years. They have gluten free food options, which is a massive plus, and their coffee is just plain good. The staff there is always polite, friendly and knowledgeable
Great food, coffee was also great which I never expect at a restaurant. We had the avocado burgers and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. They are gluten friendly which is also a huge plus.
This was a little hard to find using Google maps, you have to go inside the bancorps building to find it. Everything on the menu is gluten free except the burrito. Everything is vegan. I had the amazbowl for breakfast. It was a perfect departure from the fried food I had been eating in my work trip. The chef also checked on me several times to make sure I didn't need anything. Would definitely go back!
Also, the owner game me a free piece of cheesecake as I was leaving 😁
Kure offers a variety of downtown vegan and gluten-free options. The staff is consistently friendly, the smoothies are consistently delicious, and their breakfast sandwich is truly impressive!
Great food and the friendliest staff and owner. Recommend it to everyone and is often our go to meal. Great option for gluten free, or dairy free individuals.
Amazing place! I have celiac disease and they were so accommodating. My family loved the food too! They have a lot of great gluten free options and the servers are so knowledgeable about the dishes! They even have a separate gluten free menu. Highly recommend for safely, quality, knowledge, and available options!
We used to love Little River Cafe. It was great place for a decent lunch on our way into town. Husband would get the BLT and I would get the Salmon Salad as I can't eat gluten and that was my only option. The last time we went my salmon was undercooked. The owner was there and remedied it immediately. I know food, and I know when salmon is undercooked. We went there last Sunday for lunch and it is likely the last time we'll go. I know we're all struggling and trying to save money but offering only disposable cups for water was the first disappointment. They used to, at the very least, have washable plastic cups. This is not why I'm writing this review. Every item in my salmon salad was old or, literally rotting. The apple slices were dry and tasteless. The salmon was dry. The avocado was rotting and sure tasted like it. The lettuce, all of it, was rotting. You know when oak leaf turns black and slimy when it's old? That was my whole plate. It was disgusting. It is NEVER OK to serve anyone rotting food. They were busy and the owner was no where in sight and frankly I didn't think the kid behind the counter would give a shit (if you ever watch Gilmore Girls think Brennen in Luke's Diner). So we left. And, sadly, we won't be going back.
I came in with low expectations, I mean it’s a hospital coffee shop… and was so impressed! I got the two egg breakfast with gluten free toast and ate it so fast I could take a picture! The bacon was perfectly crispy and thick, nailed the over easy eggs and the gluten free toast was some of the best I’ve had! For dessert I had a pumpkin spice latte with oat milk and a gluten free salted caramel chocolate chunk cookie. All delightful. Staff was super friendly and I found out it’s a locally owned family business. If you’re at OHSU it’s an amazing option!
Everything on the menu is clearly marked gluten free, they even mark the teriyaki sauce. I ordered macaroni salad for my partner and they packaged it separately in a plastic tub AND wrote “gf” on my box… There were so many other green flags with how the food was cooked and prepared, I so so appreciated how easy and “normal” it felt to order something allergen friendly :)
Wonderful breakfast sandwiches and GLUTEN FREE option for any sandwich on the menu! Yolko Ono is the go to for sure but Sriracha Mix A Lot is also a must try!
Each dish was a masterpiece in itself. Something as simple as olives and chickpeas was elevated to a really delicious dish. The halibut and pork chops were both fantastic.
The service was terrific. One of us eats gluten free and they were extremely knowledgeable about it.
Highly recommended.
I want to love this place but don’t be fooled by gluten free menu designations. I got hit with gluten hard. I had them check with the chef but got hit anyway. Afterwards I checked their status on find me gluten free and sure enough many have had this same issue.
Cutest coffee shop! I got a cold brew with maple syrup and coconut milk. I really appreciated the barista asking me about how much milk I wanted and poured it in front of me. I got a gluten free oat, blueberry muffin that my kids loved along with a chocolate chip cookie. I love all the plants and staff was friendly!
In a word, AWESOME. Everything in this place is top notch. The owner and her staff are welcoming and know their jobs. They listen and deliver on sometimes silly and ridiculous requests--which is what we've all come to expect in a coffee shop. In addition to the best mochas (according to my husband), they also offer a great variety of pastries (vegan and gluten free, too) and killer breakfast sandwiches. The secret is out--Driftwood Coffee rocks!
I don't go to Portland Oregon that often but then again maybe I should. I definitely recommend SUNRICE Restaurant. I got there early and they had just finished making a big catering order. There were stacks of takeout lined along the shelf ready to deliver. I finally placed my order as I met tj the owner made his suggestions. As I am Celiac and lactose intolerant. I went back and forth between the fish & chicken. I went with the marinade chicken and I can truly say it was the best I have ever had. Soft tender garlic, orange flavor explodes with every bite.
I love the fact that I had never been to this restaurant and found this gem! I'm sure the other food choices in the menu are also delicious. I will just have to come back and try them all out. Wishing you all success, & happiness
Thank you so much
The food is great, the menu has a ton of gluten free and vegetarian options that aren't "oh I guess we'll let you eat" mediocrity, the atmosphere is great, and the service was fantastic. Our server, Jaden, was an absolute hoot and made us feel welcome and at home in the best way possible.
Lovely lunch! The Mr Miyagi sandwich was da bomb. Adored the chicken teriyaki dumplings. Can't stop thinking about them. Chicken bento was delicious, and made gluten free.
We stumbled into this place hangry and lost tourists. The servers were very warm and helpful ☺️ ordered all different food and we all were very satisfied for the price. They were very timely too. Thank you 🙏 gluten free option for the avocado toast was great!
Open for reservations starting October 31st! We had an 8pm reservation.
We tried Bay Shrimp & Potatoes, Salmon Crudo (subbed the cured lemon gel with yuzu to make it gluten free), Roasted Potato with Bacon and Crème Fraîche, Gorge dessert.
The salmon crudo (w/ the yuzu) was our favorite! The flavors were outstanding.
Portions are small, appetizer size. We didn’t opt for the Grand Dishes which are $130-$240.
The the restaurant and the entire hotel is beautiful. We had a window seat with a beautiful city view. There is a covered outdoor balcony near the bar.
The servers were kind and accommodating for both gluten free and dairy-free options. They had plenty of options that could be made gluten free, but were not very many options that could be made dairy free. We hope this changes in the future.
Perfect place to stop in on a break from work. Good breakfast and lunch options. Best snack selection in the area. Lots of vegan, gluten free, and vegetarian options. Staff is always nice and food is fresh.
We AdOrE this place! 2 favorites in Portland and this is one of them. Quaint sweet SE spot. Quick SuPeR courteous service. L♡VE the staff all around. Good hearts making good food with Love. Truly the Old Portland lives HeRe!
Gluten-free French toast is thee best I've had! Bacon thick and beautiful. Eggs perfect everytime! ❤️
I have celiac so I come here for the lattes and the gluten free soup. The miso tomato soup is so good, though I wish they would bring back the ginger carrot soup. It was so delicious! The black sesame maple latte is my fave, but all their drinks are great. The service is always exceptional and the ambience is really calm. It’s a great place to chill and enjoy some yummy coffee and food.
We did enjoy our evening here for the decor and friendly staff but the food was miserably small portions and very expensive. I had pork belly which was more entree size with one cube (1 inch by half an inch) of pure fat and one cube of actual pork belly, sitting in a bland pasta with cream. Bean and kale soup was tasteless. No gluten free options apart from the soup. Meatballs were filling.
Gluten free options!
Enjoyed the funk music and smell of chicory coffee. Brought me back to a distant memory of breakfast at Granny’s southern table when I was a kid.
