As someone who is allergic to gluten and a few other common ingredients, I struggle to find good, satisfying, hand-made, authentic food pretty much everywhere. So when I say that Empire Chinese Kitchen's Orange Beef literally (and by literally I mean literally, not figuratively) made me cry - it is not an exaggeration. I had to choose between wolfing the entire plate down without taking a breath, like I wanted to, and savoring literally every single bite. The taste was sophisticated, nuanced, amazing - AND GLUTEN FREE. The waitstaff didn't blink an eyeball when I said I was celiac and did research up to and including calling the farm that is the source of their ingredients to check on another allergy for me. My dining companions similarly enjoyed everything on their meal, and I can vouch for the gluten free steamed buns, as well. I cannot wait to go back! It's an hour from my house, and I'm already counting my gas money.
Gluten free grilled cheese no extra charge? YES. I didn't choose the celiac life, it forced itself upon me. This was a SUPER exciting find for the day after our bar crawl when we desperately needed carbs and comfort. The grilled cheeses were great but I was really impressed by the tomato soup, which I don't normally like!
This place is #1 on our list for trips to Maine. We actually drove 4 hours because of how fabulous Stones Throw is. The food is sooo good. We’ve had several meals here and made a second trip just weeks apart. We booked the Nevada and never left the block. The best gluten free bread my sweetheart has ever had. Lobster rolls called us back! You do not leave here hungry! The portions are too much! And the bill….i checked to see if they forgot to charge something that we ordered. It didn’t seem like enough.
What a great place with sensational staff!!

A small, very busy and festive environment that is worth the wait. The food here was amazing.
This is a safe haven for celiacs (gluten free) and almost everything on the menu is gluten free with a handful of exceptions. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer questions.
If I could give 10 stars I would give it!! Amazing service and excellent food as always! Lots of vegan and gluten free options! Great drinks selection! One of our favorite restaurants in the SoPo area! We can't wait to go back!
Charming and cozy restaurant with incredibly friendly and professional staff. Everything tasted great, particularly the chicken meatballs with pomodoro and the gluten-free brownie with homemade marshmallow. Delicious! Even their mocktails are awesome. Wish we had eaten here every night of our vacation in Kennebunkport!
My girlfriend is gluten free and they were very accommodating and they split our meal on separate plates which was also incredibly nice of them. They said the get busy during the vacation season, however, this place is a hidden gem and highly recommended.
Decided on this place because we wanted some good smoked meats. It definitely didn’t disappoint! With many options to chose from for seating. Outside decks, covered with heaters if needed. But let’s get to the food. The corn succotash is warm and perfect. We ordered the clam cakes as an appy. They are huge and worth every penny. Then we had the small dinner board. OMG the brisket though! And the grilled cornbread! Their Sangria is so refreshing you will want to take a growler home. Yes, I said growler. They sell them to go in their market along with their sauces. I took home a gluten free bread made locally. Review to follow on that!
On my birthday (August 3rd) we accidentally found El Corazan and ordered take out from them because our favorite Mexican restaurant was closed. About 2 minutes after we began stuffing our faces I said to my husband, “$@<%!!! I’m so glad __ ____ was closed! This is awesome!!” It’s now August 27th and I’m embarrassed to admit how many times we’ve ordered food from them since then. Lol!
* We feel like we were cheating on our previously favorite Mexican restaurant in Portland so we have filed for divorce…
We have a gluten intolerant, vegetarian kiddo, another vegetarian, and two meat eaters in our family and all of us are able to get a number of fantastic dishes. Actually, every single thing we’ve gotten has been outrageously good. They haven’t made one mistake in our orders yet - which for us is not common due to our various food requirements.
Portions are large but not obscene - perfect really. Service is excellent. Food is incredible and so fresh! It’s entirely possible to order a very healthy dish as well as dishes that check all of the boxes for feeling naughty, dripping with cheeses and sauces.
Couldn’t finish my meal last night and even after a night in the fridge, the fried green tomato taco (right?!?!?!) is still delicious, fresh tasting, and unique. Can’t get enough of these tacos!
Go there ASAP! You won’t be disappointed. It’s rare to feel the urge to write a positive review…but they’re doing such a great job there that I couldn’t resist. And no, I do not know anyone who works there or owns the restaurant.
I was sadly disappointed with this restaurant. Service was ok, our waitress definitely had too many tables so we couldn’t order anything else but that is to no fault of her. The biggest issue here was the fried food. I ordered a chicken sandwich (gluten free) which I was very excited for since few to no restaurants in the area serve GF fried food. The breading was black, and tasted like straight burnt oil. I tried my best on the sandwich but it left a nasty taste in my mouth and was absolutely not worth it. Please change your frying oil more frequently 😭
Gluten Free Friendly!!! Have to say I absolutely loved 3 of the 4 courses. Loved: Tuna tartare squash soup, pear salad, and the chocolate mousse. My entree: Mahi Mahi was good, but bit bland.
I loved this place. We went during offseason. We had the combo where you get salad, pasta, and Pizza for a flat price but we asked for gluten free. It was all excellent. I would definitely go again. The servers were also great.
I have celiac disease and have to eat gluten-free. They have gluten-free fish and chips, fried clams and scallops. Lots 9f gluten-free options. Great, fast service, friendly staff.
The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting and the waitstaff congenial (though not 100% up on what dishes contain gluten). I ordered the duck with beans with carrots and kale. The duck fell off the bones. The beans were extremely(!) salty. My dessert, a chocolate mousse, had a slightly course and not creamy texture. I had really wanted to like this restaurant...
My family brought me here tonight for an early Mothers Day. My 1st time. My daughter had been here previously and was excited to see you offered Gluten Free options - I require them. We arrived at oir reservation time and were sat promptly. We had a wonderful gentleman for our server, very attentive and knowlegeable. We started with the mixed meats and cheese board and the ricotta stuffed eggplant for our table of five. I have to say, best eggplant dish I've ever had! For my entree I had the mixed seafood with red sauce over GF pasta (actually tasted like a wonderful fra diavolo sauce. ) was delicious. My daughter had the Lobster ravioli. Smelled ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - obviously that was a gluten containing dish but I couldn't help but wish they'd offered a deconstructed version over GF pasta. The gluten free chocolate torte was thankfully sweetened a bit, so much better than other, basically unsweetened GF tortes.
Wonderful dinner. Wonderful service. Will return.
Jillian was attentive and friendly. The service was great. The drink menu seemed limited. There's a huge wine list, not much for craft beer drinkers while being located in a craft beer city and there was a "shmedium" cocktail list. Come here for the raw bar. Legit one of the best oyster spots in Portland. The calamari was good, but nothing to go crazy about - it definitely scratches that itch when you're craving a light battered basket of sunshine. The lobster grilled cheese sounded glutenous but was so worth it - absolutely order this. It was LOADED with lobster. The fries that come with it are delicious and I don't go crazy over fries. My fiancee got the salmon BLT and when I asked what he thought about it... He responded, "it was good". 😆 There's a reason why he doesn't do the reviews LOL. Anyways, he did love it though. Would we come again? Yes. Is this a good date night spot? Yes. We'll be back.
Absolutely delicious! As someone who is gluten-free and dairy-free, I love that Umami Noodle Bar offers so many amazing options that fit my diet without compromising on flavor. The variety of spice levels is a game-changer, letting me customize my meal just the way I like it. Not only is the food fresh and healthy, but this is also my go-to spot to work—the internet is fast, there are plenty of outlets, and the atmosphere is perfect for getting things done while enjoying a great meal. If you’re looking for the best gluten-free and dairy-free dining spot in Bangor, this is it! The curry broth with rice noodles is my go to!
This place is amazing! Great gluten free options and an amazing wine list and fantastic service! Made some great friend with everyone we sat near and all the servers. So much fun!!
We love Regards - it's always a pleasure to have dinner there. The food is unbelievable; it's always creative, inspired, and consistently delicious. My partner is vegetarian, and I am gluten free - they address both very conscientiously (and we have more than enough options). The atmosphere is great, and the staff is welcoming and attentive. Make sure this is on your list!
I was so pleasantly surprised by the amount of gluten- free choices that were tasty! My server Tanesha's attentiveness to mine and my child's needs, as well a just being super friendly has guaranteed that this will be a new go-to!
Absolutely beautiful spot! We have been coming to MDI for years during the summer and Sweet Pea’s is a staple especially when you eat lobster each night up here! Lots of pizza options! As an individual allergic to both gluten and dairy plenty of options with the specials! The meatballs are gluten free and delicious! I don’t remember last time I had meatballs that were gluten free! Seafood is fresh and delicious!
Very cool, intimate restaurant. We ordered an array of small plates to share and they had a separate gluten free menu that I very much appreciated. Our cocktails were interesting but a bit off the mark. The sashimi was the best dish that we had and the mochi bacon was chewy and interesting.

Sopo Seafood is hands down our favorite neighborhood spot. We have been frequenting this beautiful establishment since they opened. No reason to go over the bridge for oysters anymore! The owners & everyone who works there are so friendly. The chowders are all gluten free as is the homemade sauce they put on the rice bowls!!!! Brings a tear to my eye! I love when they have the lobster dip on special and am hoping they bring back the crème fraiche, caviar & chives w chips (hint hint). It is one of the best snacks to go alongside a crisp, cold glass of bubbly. Not only is the oyster bar amazing, but the fact that is it also a seafood market makes it that much better. Pro tip: Try the Manhattan & the smoked trout roll or on crackers. So. Good.
I'm going to take a second to review this hotel and I'm still on vacation. I'm picky and do my research before putting out money for vacations. That being said I can't understand for a second why anyone would want to stay anywhere else in Bar Harbor. 22 rooms all with a balcony and a view. Shuttle into town. Fast and convenient Leo and Greg are fantastic. Delicious breakfast every morning included. I am a vegetarian and the breakfast is vegetarian and vegan but even my husband is raving over the food. Especially this quiche croissant they have. Choc chip cookies in the afternoon with options for those gluten free. They even left two champagne glasses with a shareable bottle of champagne and a card for my birthday.
And the beds are super comfy. Wonderful place with a staff that needs to be recognized!
Fun place to enjoy drinks! Not a lot of gluten free options but enough to enjoy dinner. We missed Sunday brunch but there were lots of delicious choices.
Came here for gluten free options (due to reviews) but everything is cross contaminated. After asking questions we discovered only the oatmeal was safe- which really was delicious! Everyone else enjoyed their food. Didn’t rate the service super high because the server was clearly annoyed with our menu questions.
Atmosphere is hit or miss. Sometimes perfectly chill...sometimes a drunken mass fest. The food is outstanding. The specialty drinks as well are top notch. Always safe to eat Gluten Free here for the most sensitive.
I have been a few times now. The first day with the new owners I had a waitress who seemed clueless, and when I went back, she was gone. The waitstaff since then has been wonderful! I am celiac and can't have dairy, but I have gotten the burger with a side salad. It is simple and delicious! I have gone with different folks each time and we have eaten our way through much of the menu...nothing has been mediocre yet!
Ate here quite a few times over Thanksgiving holiday. As a celiac I often struggle to find places I can eat. They have an extensive menu and understand issues like cross contamination. Everything I had was delicious. Highly recommend.
Had a great time tonight which included amazing cocktails(Spicy Margherita), dinner(Nam Jam Haddock) and dessert(chocolate flourless cake)!!
I need to eat gluten free and there were many options. Service was great, they didn’t rush us and we enjoyed a three hour dinner, where we could relax in an open atmosphere.
The food is absolutely fabulous. The owners are environmental angels who embrace the concept of locally sourced food that is healthy and filled with great flavor and light. I had an amazing chicken curry that was gluten free and dairy free with a coterie of winter wonderland veggies. My husband had the most scrumptious sourdough cheese and beef comfort sandwich that was in his words, "The best cheese toastie ever!!!!"
The creme brulee -another winner!!
We are sad to leave.
Do whatever it takes to eat at this sancutary of kitchencraft magic!!
The beer is great and so is the food! Lots of gluten free options (seems as though they have a gluten free fryer)- wings pictured were amazing!!
Only note is that the several times we’ve been, there have been a ton of kids. It is not your standard brewery environment with adults and brews. Seems like a great spot for families.
They also do not allow dogs- inside or outside :(
Great atmosphere. We ate lunch outside on a tent covered dock. We both ordered cheese burgers with fries and coleslaw. The burgers were great. Unfortunately the only gluten free options were salad. There were no gluten free rolls for the burger. Beautiful views of the river. Service was good.
We love this restaurant! The entire menu looked so good! I am gluten free and enjoyed masa pancakes! The restaurant is very clean and the decor is great. The staff was very inviting. Definitely worth your visit.
