Disrespectful and unprofessional – that's not how you treat guests
We arrived with great anticipation, as the café advertises its vegan and gluten-free offerings – unfortunately, we were completely disappointed.
Despite several free tables, we were completely ignored. The waitress clearly saw us sitting down, but we simply weren't served. When we finally asked for the menu after some time, another waitress reprimanded us in an unfriendly and condescending tone – we "didn't wait" to be seated.
Such a tone, coupled with complete disinterest in the guest, is completely inappropriate in a restaurant. No one explained to us beforehand that we would have to wait to be assigned – and even if they had, that's not how you speak to people who come voluntarily to invest their time and money.
It's perfectly fine to have clear procedures – but the tone of voice makes the difference. What we experienced was simply disrespectful, unprofessional, and off-putting. The concept may be good, but that alone isn't enough when you treat your customers like this. Definitely a no-go for us!!!
We felt very unwelcome.
We've never been treated like this in a restaurant before.
Very disappointing!
A restaurant with character.
Very friendly and attentive staff.
The gluten-free dishes are a bit overpriced, but if you have to eat gluten-free, you'll accept that.
A great place, a superb discovery 👌
The servers are friendly, the pizzas are very good (with or without gluten). The decor is pretty, and even their coffee is good.
I'm referring to the packaged, gluten-free products, e.g., Baumkuchen (tree cake). I find the products super delicious, packaged humanely, and more than reasonable in price. Simply fantastic! Please keep it up.
We came here because my wife is gluten intolerant and we appreciate restaurants that offer a wide of variety of gluten free options. This restaurant has gluten free crusts for all the pizzas and gluten free pasta dishes.
The food here was fantastic and we have lived in Italy. The gluten free pizza was very tasty with a very nice crust (not common with gluten free). The service was friendly and kind, especially after we started speaking in Italian.
The owner makes his own liqueurs and we were curious to try it. He offered it to us with no charge and it was delicious. When we told him we liked it, he gave us a small bottle for free.
We wanted to go back for a second meal the following day, but unfortunately it was closed.
Highly recommend it if you are traveling through the Mosel Valley, especially if you need gluten free options.
Since I'm gluten-free, I was surprised to find an Italian restaurant that actually offers homemade gluten-free pizza. The dough is perfect, the pizza isn't overdone, and only high-quality ingredients are used. They also offer gluten-free pasta dishes, although I haven't tried them yet.
Alle Gerichte werden glutenfrei angeboten! Die Besitzer kennen sich mit allem aus und sind super freundlich. Es wird auf jegliche Kontaminationen geachtet. Sehr empfehlenswert! Wir gehen regelmäßig hin!
A sobering experience despite the cozy atmosphere
This is our third visit to "Pfeffermizje" – unfortunately, this visit was also characterized by poor service. Although the café was not very busy on a Friday morning, we had to wait a long time for a table because the waitress clearly had no overview of the available tables.
From the time we arrived until we placed our order, it took about 45 minutes – an unreasonably long time, especially since the staff walked past us several times without acknowledging us. Meanwhile, the manager was sweeping the terrace right next to us – a strange sight that conveyed little professionalism. The food also took almost an hour to arrive. After breakfast, we ordered two hot drinks, but they also didn't arrive after a wait of about 35 minutes. We ended up paying at the bar because no one else came to our table. In total, we were in the café for almost four hours.
The waitresses seemed stressed and seemed to have little training in using the cash register system or the general process. This seemed uncoordinated and unprofessional.
One positive I would like to highlight is that the café offers gluten-free rolls – however, they are very small and cost extra. The atmosphere in the back outdoor area is pleasant and generally inviting.
Conclusion: The concept has potential, but the service desperately needs improvement. Until this changes, I unfortunately cannot recommend the café.
We visited the pizzeria on a Friday evening and luckily had a table reserved, as it was very busy. Unfortunately, we had to wait a bit longer in between. For our order to be taken, then for the drinks to arrive, and then for the food. But the wait was worth it, because the gluten-free pizza was simply heavenly! The dough is made in Italy and shipped to Germany. The dough is then prepared in the kitchen without any contamination. The pizza tastes absolutely delicious, and the extra charge is relatively small at €1. However, the general prices are a bit higher, but it's worth it!
We're always happy to be there 😊
Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, meat-eater, or have other intolerances like gluten-free food - there's something for everyone 🤤
The food is as delicious, fresh, and high-quality as anywhere else in the surrounding area, with such good value for money, and highly recommended! It's freshly prepared and takes a little longer, so it's not a cheap fast food joint - but a Mediterranean restaurant with high standards to offer the best on your plate 😁
I like the hosts and think it's good that you're not served and treated in a standard way. I understand that some people feel overwhelmed, but that's definitely not what they intended - it's simply a different approach than usual 👌🏻
Spend €2-5 more and let yourself be pampered here and enjoy the experience of dining out on the market square in Bad Bergzabern while you still have the chance!!!
If it's convenient, they also deliver for those who'd rather have a really great meal on the couch 😅🤤😉
Other languages are also spoken on site for those who don't speak German 👍🏻 or for all Alsatians who enjoy being served in French ☺️
🚩For those who care: 🚩
We now also offer alcohol, including beer and wine from a highly recommended local winery 🍻🍷, and for the others, I can only say that the restaurant is one of the few providers with such a great non-alcoholic alternative menu 🙌🏻
For me, this is a real plus point for the city center of Bad Bergzabern - so a plea to support such great restaurateurs who still care passionately about what they serve their guests on their plates 🤩
Delicious Mexican food, nice casual atmosphere and great prices. It's also nice that there are plenty of gluten-free options. We like to come here when we are in Mainz.
I had a bagel with toppings and a latte macchiato. My wife had a Zupfkuchen (a kind of cake). Both were delicious. Gluten-free and lactose-free options available. What more could you want? 😊
We ate at the restaurant for the first time today, and it definitely won't be our last.
Service - full marks
Appetizers - full marks
Main courses - full marks
Desserts - full marks
Since my wife and son have to avoid gluten and the kitchen at the Ölmühle prepares all dishes gluten-free, we decided to try this restaurant.
The food they conjured up for us was absolutely fantastic.
Absolutely top-notch value for money!
Take a seat, relax, and enjoy!
Keep up the good work!
That was really tasty! The best fries I've had in ages! Also suitable for people with celiac disease, the staff knows their stuff and offers gluten-free variations!
The food is simply delicious, a small but very cozy place. Lots of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Simple food, very suitable for sharing and incredibly tasty. The desserts are also incredible and to finish a quality coffee. We will be back!!
The crepe was super tasty and gluten-free. Not small either but very reasonably priced. Very nice service staff.
It was a bit smoky in the restaurant so only four stars for the atmosphere.

We always enjoy coming back to this restaurant. I would especially like to emphasize that they are very knowledgeable about celiac disease and therefore cater to people with this condition. Yesterday we had the best gluten-free pasta (homemade!) there. It was so, so delicious, and our children were happy. Thank you so much for this service. We always enjoy coming back!
Super cozy cafe with great service!
Also with intolerances and eating habits such as gluten-free, vegan, reduced-carbohydrate, etc. The kitchen addresses this, perhaps asks again, and draws attention to the ingredients.
Gluten-free baked goods are sealed so that no contamination is possible.
Reservation is worth it, especially on the weekend!
I like to drive from Bonn to the city flair for breakfast 🥰
Today we had a Pinsa and I have to say, no matter which one you eat here, they all taste really delicious and the ingredients are simply fresh.
You can also get gluten-free Pinsa here and that’s great 👍. I can only recommend it, I think the price is reasonable. If you're in the pedestrian zone in Worms, go to the Obermarkt and try it out.
After a stroll through town, we stopped at Bistorante Da Adriana – and were absolutely delighted! We were particularly impressed by the gluten-free selection: They offer both gluten-free pizza and pasta, which made choosing this restaurant easy. We had (gluten-free) pizzas that not only tasted great, but also had really good toppings – fresh, aromatic, and beautifully crispy. The service was friendly and attentive. We felt very comfortable and would gladly return!
Delicious food for a good price. Nice staff who also speak excellent English. Gluten-free is an option, but not 100% sure whether they really handle it carefully. Dogs are present in the restaurant.
Not bad, but not necessarily great either. It's okay. I ordered the meat medium, but it was very dry and overcooked. The gluten-free bun was very cold, as if it had just come out of the fridge. Unfortunately, the server didn't know anything about gluten-free options. I asked again if the fries were gluten-free, because the menu says burger+fries for gluten-free +2€, so I assumed they were gluten-free if you could choose that, but just to be on the safe side, I asked. She went to the kitchen to check and came back with the statement that they weren't completely gluten-free. So I opted for the fries instead and opted for a very small salad. Unfortunately, she seemed very unsure about the salad as well.
My husband had a regular burger. The fries were very good, but his burger was also cold, and the meat was overcooked and dry.
Unfortunately, the homemade iced tea was much too strong and tasted like a store-bought one.
Unfortunately, we're disappointed that it wasn't particularly cheap, and I wasn't satisfied.
It would be really nice if the staff were better trained in gluten-free options, especially since something like this is already offered.
A hidden gem
The journey is worth it. A great range of cakes, excellent coffee and tea await you in scenic surroundings. What is particularly noteworthy is the range of gluten-free dishes and the focus on business partners who offer products with the help of people with disabilities. And the icing on the cake is warm service. We'll be back.
Very friendly welcome.
The ambiance was lovely, the food was fantastic.
It was our first time there and we'll definitely be back.
Just for the gluten-free dishes, which my wife relies on.
We've been to many places in Germany and were always looking for restaurants that serve gluten-free food, but we hadn't found a restaurant like this one that prepares almost everything gluten-free.
The 33 km drive is definitely worth it.
Everything was great.
We were visiting Ahrweiler and had dinner at La Perla on both evenings.
Great ambience, super friendly staff and delicious food.
But best of all, my husband was able to eat gluten-free there. A great compliment to La Perla.
This is the second time I've eaten here and as someone with celiac disease you always have your concerns, but you don't need them here at all. Today I ate a gluten-free Pizza Turca and was absolutely thrilled, it 100% suited my taste. The dough was absolutely amazing, I have never tasted such good gluten-free dough before.
Definitely gained a new regular customer
PS: My wife is with her "normal"
Pizza Turca was also 100% satisfied.
Super nice restaurant next to a sports field with rustic charm. Great for outdoor dining, but inside it is very rustic. The food is amazing and amazingly they offer a gluten free schnitzel which is great and was initially why we went. We always like to come back in summer :)
Great menu, great pizzas & great flavors that you can discover on site. Drive almost an hour to eat there with the family. My daughter's favorite pizza! And delicious gluten-free is also available. Thank you - always happy to come back.
Our group of girls had a really nice evening with delicious food and good wine in the beer garden. The service was very friendly and was able to advise us very well on the wine selection.
Vegetarians, allergies and intolerances (such as celiac disease) were also taken into consideration.
They could have sold a few more bottles of wine if they had come to the table more often, but the shop is always very busy. A reservation is recommended here!
We will definitely come back, highly recommended. 😊
Very good food of really good quality! Delicious gluten-free pizza and guaranteed to be suitable for celiac patients (everything is prepared separately).
The staff is friendly, personable and professional. They are also very child-friendly! We will now come here regularly. :)
A worthy pizzeria for a historic house...
First mentioned as a farm in 850 and built in 1560 as it still stands today, this house has served as a bakery for most of its history...
And somehow, the old half-timbered house has returned to its roots, even though today they bake pizza instead of bread. And a pretty good one, I must say – gluten-free, too, upon request. The ingredients were all fresh and aromatic; only the cheese used could have been a bit more flavorful, in my opinion, but that's just nitpicking, because overall, the pizza was perfect in every respect and exceptionally delicious.
The service was also very friendly and made us smile several times with their cheerful, funny manner.
And the ambiance is unbeatable anyway, thanks to the architecture of the house and the matching furnishings.
So, five stars in all respects.
