Our family of 5 went and had a great meal. We started with the lobster ravioli appetizer and really enjoyed that! Then we had the carbonara (one with gluten free gnocchi), clams linguine, chicken parm, and chicken Alfredo. They did a great job with the gluten free meal- absolutely would get again. I could have shared- as it was too much! Everyone loved their dishes. We would certainly come back. Favorite meal of our trip. Service was very good. Our server checked on us regularly and food was brought out steaming hot! The place is small and narrow, but quaint, like most in that section of town. We had a nice cozy seat across from the brick pizza oven.

Made it here in the rain before noon. Very disappointed to find out they only had Whoopie pies that did not look very appetizing. I am from California in Boston for 2 days. This place was on my list to visit for GF bakery items.

We made a reservation for Sunday night before a show. Reserving online was easy and I noted a gluten free menu was needed. Day of, the hostess picked up immediately when I called to say we were running a few minutes late. We came in and were seated immediately - with one GF menu in hand. Waters were filled, and a server brought a basket off pop overs. Noting the GF menu, she came back with GF breadrolls for my mom. Waiter was nice, helped my mom choose wine. She got the lobster risotto and I had the fresh tortellini. Food was fast, tasty, and delicious. We were given fresh macaroons with our bill, and the server brought my mom a couple more GF rolls for the rode. Such a great experience! Thank you!

I went here with two girlfriends and sat at the bar. We order the beans, the hummus with arugula and prosciutto and a gluten free crust pizza. All of it was spectacular. The pizza crust was a think crust - but texture and flavor were spot on! The bean dish was out of this world and the sauce was excellent. Cocktails were also good and service impeccable. Highly recommend.

very busy & we were walk ins so I do recommend making reservations understandably our wait was a little long but were able to go to the bar for cocktails as we waited. but the Manhatten was delicious & food was Fantastic. Highly recommend the Linguine Con Vongole. party was also very happy with the gluten free options / Modifications

Very loud and a tad over priced. Best gluten free pizza crust in the area. Most, if not all the dishes I sampled needed salt, but otherwise delicious and excellent ingredients.

Went here with my partner and his sister who are both gluten and dairy free. As many others have said, they are incredible with handling allergies. The siblings were so excited to go to an Italian restaurant and have plentiful options. They had the gluten free bread (more of a soft thin pita) with garlic oil, a pasta with meat, garlic oil, and veggies, and a gluten free pizza with various toppings (note they do not have a DF cheese). They said the meal was amazing! They also have a gluten free beer, which is always a hit when we can find one. I had the drunken lobster noodle which was sooo delicious. Huge portions and very kind staff. Managed to get a walk-in table on 4th of July. 10/10 would go again!

We visited for my dad‘s birthday dinner and it was a delightful time. Every dish was very tasty. I got the penne alla vodka gluten free with whipped ricotta on top (definitely worth getting!) - the orecchiette, chicken, Parmesan, and scallops saltimbocca were all very tasty. The zucchini fries were the perfect appetizer, the pesto aioli they came with was awesome. They also brought some limoncello shots and a beautifully plated Torta Di Chocolate for dessert. Definitely recommend coming!

Celebrated our fifth anniversary here while visiting Boston! I was so jazzed that the menu offered so many gluten free options. We enjoyed the oysters, mozzarella sticks (gluten free!!!), octopus, lobster, and bolognese. Finished with peach sorbetto. It is an investment but was absolutely worth the culinary experience. My partner’s fave was the octopus with crispy guanciale. Excellent drinks as well!

Great place!! The service was top-notch, the inside is a bit cramped (it's the north end) and wicked hot inside but otherwise good! The real star was of course the food. Hands down amazing from the appetizer to the main course- and they accommodated all my allergies very well! I'm GF and DF, they were able to do a lot and had Vegan options too. I'm celiac, felt safe and didn't get sick. Highly recommend.

The flavors are generally pretty complimentary and I am appreciative of the high-quality gluten-free pasta with celiac-friendly preparation. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired in two aspects: 1: the somewhat arrogant pricing 2: the customer conveyor-belt style service flow - they are trying to fit as many seatings as possible into each evening and do everything they possibly can to get people in & out in under an hour - seems a bit self-defeating when they are selling $65+ bottles of wine Worth it if you go in expecting to order light, get one drink, and move on. Definitely find somewhere else if you'd like to enjoy multiple courses and make an evening of it though.

I’m sitting here right now, and I basically never feel inclined to leave a review mid meal, but here I am. After less than a year of realizing I have a severe gluten intolerance, it’s been an adjustment, to say the least, and not a yummy one. This food about brought me to tears. Maybe it’s the long travel, but nonetheless, I find myself trying to savor every bite. They have a gluten free menu, which I decided to try the house made Ricotta (chips instead of bread), and the bolognese. I can’t. Every bite is amazing, and if you have a gluten allergy, you know what delectable pasta isn’t always easy to come by. Not to mention, I’m sitting by the bar and can hear the kitchen staff talking about the gluten dishes, grabbing clean pans, and ensuring they leave the hold window when they’re done. Just beyond what most restaurants do. I cannot wait to be back in town to come again. Oh, and the staff is just so nice and helpful, and everyone seems to just sincerely love their job! You know when the owners and chefs (and sous chef!) are named on the menu, they take real pride in what they do. Highly recommend!

I have a very thoughtful partner who put a lot of time into looking for a nice Italian restaurant in the North End for date night with the understanding that I will be looking for gluten-free options. I don't get very many one-star reviews. I'm not entirely sure who is at fault for my experience it could be someone who works in the kitchen it could be the server... I told them that I couldn't eat gluten due to an allergy. I was served a huge pile of wheat pasta. Do better, I guess. Mistakes happen. I do have a larger problem with the way it was handled after it was discovered to be a problem. I identified the error before putting food in my mouth and sent it back to the kitchen. When the food returned, it was literally the same dish and cut of meat but the pasta had been swapped out. It was evident that Lucia Ristorante did not value my safety. Aside from that, the gluten-free pile of pasta that I received had been cooked hours before and was lukewarm and gummy. Reader, I understand that gluten-free pasta is not the main focus of North End dining but this was the most vile gluten-free pasta I have ever experienced. As you can imagine that's kind of saying a lot. If that was all that happened I might actually give them another chance and just be really clear next time and provide boundaries up front about what is acceptable for a replacement.... except that the actual dish that I got was such salty dry Bland chicken. I have to say that the fried artichoke was really good. But a few fried artichokes on a dish full of vile pasta kind of eroded my trust to the point where I don't think it's worth trying again.

My mom & I are traveling and stopped here to eat dinner. We spoke with Benson (Manager) who was very knowledgeable and caring to help my mother who has SEVERE celiac. We got seated and ordered. They gave my mom a gluten free menu and she ordered the pasta with chicken and sausage. My mom loved it and was satisfied. I did not take any photos because I was very much in the moment. This was one of the best meals my husband and I have ever had out! I have to eat a gluten free diet, and they brought us out dishes that were all gluten free. The wine pairings for the dishes were on point. The manager came over and offered us two different white wines to choose from with our meal. One was a very unique white wine while the other was more what you may expect, so she was giving us tastes of each so we could choose. We chose the unique wine - I believe it was made with the grape skins still intact, which gave it an interesting flavor. The service was on point from everyone we came into contact with. Loved every moment of this dining experience.

Cozy spot on Tremont. I got the gluten-free shrimp carbonara and the staff were very knowledgeable on the food safety process! My friend got the gnocchi cacio e pepe which was also very good. The food did take a long time to come out but understandable since it was very busy. They had a coat check as well which was a nice surprise and helpful to manage the space! Definitely recommend the arancini!

This place is a 10/10! The whole aesthetic is exceptional- from the decor, to the service, the drinks, and the food. My husband has celiac and was able to eat so many items. Our server, Daniel, is honestly one of the best waiters we’ve ever had. He was knowledgeable, had wonderful recommendations (even wrote us a list of cool things to do in Boston)- he deserves to be recognized. The food was chef’s kiss! We had the beef carpaccio, gluten free wild boar pasta, gluten free spicy lobster penne, and the crema di Boston- everything was outstanding If you are able to make a reservation here- do it. It’s a rooftop restaurant and the views were great even though it was overcast. I can’t imagine how beautiful it would be on a clear summer day.

Very friendly staff, including a wonderful waitress that helped me make a custom gluten-free dish based on a photo a previous diner had posted. It was absolutely phenomenal. Gluten-free pasta, a (thin brothy) pesto sauce, Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, cheese, and grilled chicken. I was originally jealous of my family getting chicken. Parm, my dish was the star of the evening. As an aside, they will make gluten-free chicken Parm by not putting the chicken and serving with gluten-free noodles. Really great options if you have to go gluten-free. this is the first time in quite a while that I didn’t feel like I was missing out one bit. The other people at the table seemed to enjoy their tagliatelle, ravioli, and chicken Parm (good but maybe not write-home-about-it-good)

From the moment you step in, you’re greeted by an open-concept kitchen where chefs work with visible passion behind exposed brick walls and softly lit, candlelit tables—a setting that blends old-world charm with a contemporary vibe. For dinner, our experience began with a creative duo of cocktails—a classic Cosmopolitan paired with a Sparkling Strawberry Margarita for $16. The margarita, featuring Zarpado blanco tequila, Grand Marnier, strawberry purée, and fresh lime juice crowned with a prosecco float, was both refreshing and inventive. However, our reservation for 7:00 PM did little to expedite the pace; it took about 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. We then sampled the Piatto di Prosciutto, a gluten-free appetizer priced at $10, which showcased 25-month-aged Prosciutto di Parma sliced paper-thin and served with a medley of mixed olives. The simplicity and quality of the ingredients spoke volumes about the kitchen’s commitment to authenticity. For our entrees, we opted for two standout dishes. The Vitello del Capo at $39 featured a succulent veal chop served over a bed of homemade gnocchi, complemented by a rich marsala wine sauce with shiitake and cremini mushrooms, along with speck that added a smoky depth to the dish. Meanwhile, the Spaghetti alla Carbonara for $32 brought together homemade spaghetti with Italian pancetta (a nod to the traditional cooked ham), egg, and Romano cheese, creating a comforting yet refined plate that satisfied every craving. While the food was exceptional, the service—though friendly—left room for improvement. After our drinks, we waited another 20 minutes for our appetizer, and the entrees were delayed by an additional 20 minutes. In a venue as lively and open as Monica’s, where every detail seems carefully curated, the sporadic service timing was the one misstep in an otherwise delightful evening. In summary, Monica’s Trattoria delivers a memorable dining experience that balances excellent, authentic Italian cuisine with a vibrant, open-kitchen atmosphere.
