We drove an hour to come here and it was so worth it. We are from South Carolina and had a Southern waiter, Conner. He was awesome!!! Please let him know he made our experience so much better with the sweet tea. We've been on the west coast since January and have really missed sweet tea while eating out. It hit the right spot! Thrilled we found a MM finally. Two of us are gluten free and love their gf pizza and know that it is safe for us to eat. Several hours later and I am feeling fine. No contamination. Conner said he'd make sure they knew it was for an allergy (celiac actually). He was tentative, friendly (we miss southern hospitality too so thank you for that!), understanding and quick with our order. The host was also friendly and quickly got us a booth for our party of 5. Pizza and gluten free brownies were delicious. We all left very satisfied with our service and have put this mellow mushroom (we've been to several) as one of our faves!
Being new to Nebraska, we are finding our new favorites for everything, and Honest Abe's is top of our list! We require gluten-free and budget friendly, and they fit the bill. We have used take out and delivery. Very cheerful employees. I originally emailed about gluten-free options and received a pleasant and helpful response immediately! I can't say enough about them. We really enjoy the curry sauce.
I have Celiac disease, and I am also allergic to dairy and nuts. Our server was SO great and ensured that everything that was brought out was safe for me to eat. He went above and beyond communicating with the kitchen, and he was so sweet about it.
A modern swanky intimate cider house. The ciders weren't overly sweet and had unique blends. It is a 100% gluten free facility, so we felt comfortable ordering (my husband is Celiac). Delicious food, but a touch expensive; however, we felt it was so worth it. There were also options with goat cheese. Service was a touch slow because there was only one person working front and back of house, but he was super great.
Honest Abe’s Downtown is hands down one of the best burger spots in Lincoln. Their rotating burger specials are what keep me coming back—they’re always creative, always delicious, and sometimes a little outside the box in the best way possible.
One of the biggest surprises for me? Peanut butter on a burger. I had never even considered it before, but after trying one of their specials that featured peanut butter, I was completely hooked. It added this amazing creamy texture and a slight sweetness that balanced perfectly with the savory beef and toppings. Now, I put peanut butter on every burger I make at home—it’s that good.
On top of their incredible burgers, Honest Abe’s is also super accommodating. They offer vegan burger options and gluten-free buns, so everyone can enjoy an awesome meal here. Whether you’re adventurous with flavors or need something customized, they’ve got you covered. If you love burgers and want to try something different (and life-changing), this is the place to go!
I ordered takeout from Hiro and had a really frustrating experience. The app never notified me when my food was ready, and there were no gluten free labels on anything even though I noted my celiac allergy. The host said he was “95-99% sure” the Brussels sprouts were gluten free, which isn’t good enough for a medical condition. I had to go back in for gluten free soy sauce, the staff was cold and unhelpful, and they forgot chopsticks. Worst of all, I started feeling sick shortly after eating, which makes me worry about cross contamination. This isn’t the first time I’ve had issues with gluten safety or service here.
UPDATE: shortly after leaving this review them owner reached out to me to make it right for me getting sick. Today they sent my sister & I both $25 gift cards to be used either at Honest Abes, Stouffers or a Pizza place they own. Sucks I got sick, but I love when a company will admit their mistakes and make it right. Changed my stars because the service is just as important as safe food.
I ordered from doordash. Ive eaten here before and never had a problem. I have Celiacs Disease so I have to have it certified Gluten Free. The other two stores not an issue. However within minutes of eating im in the bathroom Glutened. It tasted good, seasoned right except for my "Hammer of Thor" was 10× spicier than it normally is and half the burger was still raw. Also heard from a Door Dasher that its all cooked on the same surface. Maybe yall need to take Honest out of yalls name.
Went back after 8 years, wish I just stayed away. Used to be my favorite restaurant. They have let me down. Zero gluten free options that are also meatless, other than their house salad. And my house salad was clearly last nights salad kept in the fridge…it was completely wilted and limp with a Parmesan crisp that had nothing crisp about it. Had to cut, fold and pull apart the fridge cold crisp, that should break when tapped with your fork edge. Sides did not come with our sandwiches , I had the Jamaican jerk wrap with a side salad (it came with no side) and the side salad was not even substituted as a side for gluten free people when their meal came with a side. Would have chosen a different meal, if the rest of my party could have had a real dinner. Unfortunately, a waste of time. Because of their lack of creativity in their food and lack of respect for people with sensitivities, I will not be going back (even though I can eat gluten) because it was that bad.
Andrew served us! Andrew is very polite, and gave us some good recommendations upon inquiry. We ended up choosing two items that were mentioned. I had the Scallop and Pork Belly Carbonara. It was a good portion size with delightfully buttery scallops and deliciously tender pork belly. I loved the creamy egg yolk sauce! The lemons garnishing the plate added a nice zest.
I also got to try the Honey Soy Glazed Chicken. We don't have any gluten intolerance, but that dish happens to be gluten free and I can vouch for it being a great choice! I particularly enjoy how this dish is out together visually. It's beautiful, and I love the glaze on the chicken.
We finished our meal by sharing a slice of Chocolate Dobos Torte, and I don't remember if we were told what sauce was glazed onto the cake but it was a pleasant way to finish our evening.
As we ate, I looked over to the bar area, and the staff were smiling and laughing together during a brief moment. While this was only a glimpse, I sincerely hope the staff enjoy working here as much as it seemed they do.
I always make sure to leave a good tip, but I hope you're all getting paid well because it seems like you're doing fantastic. Be proud of your work!
Thank you, Andrew. :)
Bella is a stellar server--the kind of server you hope for. She made an extra efforts to answer all our menu questions and caught that the steak was well past the requested medium rare before we did! She even pushed back on the kitchen when they disagreed that it was good enough and had the steak salad remade. Props to Bella.
On another note, the chocolate toffee cake is out of this world! It's flourless, so gluten-sensitive people, eat up! Omg... did I just drool...?!
They have many gluten free options listed on their robust menu. Food is good, staff is great. However if you are gluten sensitive or intolerant be mindful that margaritas are not going to be for you. I wasn't aware that margaritas could possobly contain gluten, a rookie GF person mistake.
My food was great. I only had a small issue with my granddaughter. She is very young and gets sick as she has celiac. Lunch was fine, as she had a GF bun. Couldn't get fries due to cross contamination, so she had steamed broccoli. All was good until she went up for her free ice cream. They had a snickers ice cream. She asked if it was gluten free, they said yes. It's not a good thing she knows that real snickers aren't GF (she thought it would have been a deconstructed snickers). Anyway, she didn't eat it, they replaced it with vanilla. Thanks for the adjustment, but please, be careful.
Jason? I think is his name. Heard great things about this place and wanted to see what it was all about. Have celiac family and called to check to see if they had any gluten free pizza options(pretty common by the way) and the guy on the line said “No, we don’t and we never will.” If this is how their employees speak to potential customers on the phone, I can’t imagine the train wreck they have inside the restaurant.
We let the server and the cook know we needed gluten free meals. The grill was cleaned before our food placed on, but then the same utensils were used for our food and everyone else's. The worse part is the chef used the same tools for pork, seafood, and beef all at different stages of cooking without cleaning at all. This is a huge health hazard not just for those with allergen needs. We immediately asked for the check when we sat down and saw the shrimp wasn't even fully cooked. We were charged full price for two buffets without eating a bite and leaving immediately after seeing the health and safety violations.
Went to Naughty Buddha Burger on a friend's rec and it was absolutely worth it. Friendly and helpful cook and cashier. Great space with local art decor. Plenty of parking. Food was excellent. If you are down for vegetarian, vegan or gluten free, it's here. The menu is pretty deep and and the watermelon seasonal salad is outstanding. Food can take a while to come out, so don't go in a hurry.
The ten of us enjoyed an amazing dining experience, as we celebrated my wife’s birthday last night, at The Oven, downtown. Our server, Tory, set the tone for a relaxing, enjoyable evening. She was calm and helpful, answering each of our questions with confidence and direction as we explored the menu. Our age range was from one to 88 years. Tory assisted in our various dietary needs; including gluten-free, diabetic, and vegetarian requests. She even broke into Spanish when speaking with my mother-in-law, showing her much respect.
The food was fresh, flavorful and served hot from the kitchen. I especially enjoyed the eggplant appetizers, and the house favorite Shrimp meal. Their naan is always awesome, but their rice was especially delicious last night. All the food was seasoned well for flavor, yet never too salty.
We enjoyed various specialty drinks, my favorite was the gin drink, that Tory recommended, because it went so well with my meal.
The place was hopping. So many different groups of people all enjoying themselves. And we never felt rushed.
I know that our server didn’t do it all herself, the host, bartenders, cooks and wait staff support were all on point last night.
Thanks again, Rob Benton
First time eating here. Will definitely be back again. The service was excellent and the food was oh so good. One of us has celiac and the waiter took time to go over what dishes would be the best choices. Highly recommend.
Fantastic selection of food! My wife is gluten free and their selection was phenomenal! Our waitress was personable, friendly, and very well trained. Food tasted amazing! We will be returning
I was not expecting this in Nebraska...I can enjoy ramen again!
There are several gluten free choices and the broth tasted so rich and flavorful. I'm driving through this town and I wish there was a place like this in Denver.
We really enjoyed the food and cocktails. My wife has Celiac and the have a very large gluten free menu. We live in Omaha but will make sure we visit even if we have to drive to Lincoln.
We went for breakfast this morning and had a wonderful experience. All of our questions were patiently answered and they didn’t rush us to order. Even though we ordered in one person was able to get their drink in a to go cup. The drinks were ready first and our number was called out with a microphone so it was very easy to hear. There is a table with utensils and condiments next to the cart for the dish return. Drip coffee was “really good”, the chai latte was “excellent”, hot Cubana had cute latte art and “the brown sugar and cinnamon complement their espresso very well”, and the iced Cuban had “super delicious salt cream”. The Johnny cake was better than expected! Great flavor and crunch. The bit of egg on the Lemon bomb crepe added “an extra layer of yum”. We were very pleased that the only bowl is gluten free and can be made vegan.
Delicious rotating all vegan menu. Gluten-free options. Excellent environment and vibes. I can not recommend this restaurant enough. Try every menu item and you won't be disappointed. Pepe is the man!
