OEB Downtown Calgary Review
OEB Breakfast Co. in downtown Calgary is a fantastic spot for a morning meal. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a bubbly and energetic atmosphere, perfectly setting the tone for a positive dining experience.
The staff are truly a highlight. They are consistently attentive, ensuring your coffee cup never runs dry and checking in just the right amount without being intrusive. Their friendliness shines through, making you feel welcome and valued as a guest. They seem genuinely happy to be there, which adds to the overall positive vibe of the restaurant.
On the menu, the Vegetable Primavera Scramblette is a standout dish. It's a delightful and fresh take on a classic breakfast item. The scramblette is perfectly cooked, light and fluffy, and generously filled with a vibrant mix of mushrooms, tomatoes, bell peppers, and spinach. The addition of feta cheese provides a lovely salty and creamy counterpoint to the fresh vegetables. It's a satisfying and flavorful option that doesn't leave you feeling heavy, making it a great choice for those looking for a lighter yet delicious start to their day. You can also opt for gluten-free potatoes or artisan greens instead of the standard potatoes with this dish.
While opinions on price can be subjective, considering the quality of the ingredients, the generous portion sizes, and the exceptional level of service, OEB Downtown Calgary offers great value for the experience. You are not just paying for a meal; you are investing in a delightful and memorable start to your day. The care and attention to detail in each dish, like the fresh vegetables in the Primavera Scramblette, justify the price point for a special breakfast or brunch outing.
Beyond the exceptional service and the delicious Vegetable Primavera Scramblette, OEB's downtown location offers a lively and welcoming ambiance. The decor is unique and charming, contributing to a memorable dining experience. While it can get busy, which sometimes leads to a wait, the overall experience makes it worthwhile. The commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients is evident in every dish.
In summary, OEB Downtown Calgary offers:
* Attentive, friendly, and bubbly staff who enhance the dining experience.
* A delicious and fresh Vegetable Primavera Scramblette featuring a medley of perfectly cooked vegetables and feta cheese.
* Great value considering the high-quality ingredients, generous portions, and exceptional service.

While some reviewers note that the prices can be a bit higher than average, the quality of the food and the overall experience at OEB Downtown Calgary make it a worthwhile treat for breakfast or brunch. It's a place where you can expect a delicious meal, excellent service, and feel that you've received good value for your money.
Such an awesome bar, restaurant, and place for live shows! The Pal offers the best in alt vibes and often has performances both up and downstairs. The patio is massive and you can't beat the eats! Celiac friends rejoice, most of the menu (including sides) is, or can be made, GF.
Service was perfect balance of helpful and giving you the space to enjoy your meal. Food was delicious! Very gluten-free friendly! Lots of options for meat and non-meat esters.
Jax was so attentive and considerate when I mentioned my celiac allergy. He provided me with details on the on the drinks I could consume. Del came up to as and confirmed that service was provided to us. We appreciate the level of customer service that Jaxon and Del gave to us. 10/10 would come here again!!!
The food was alright, but unfortunately my fiancée was glutened. I explained that she was celiac, and they knew enough to say not to use the toaster, so they recommended using the oven to toast the gf bread to avoid cross contact. Doesn’t seem like that was a good idea..
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for anyone with Celiac disease.
Super tasty. Plenty of celiac safe gluten-free options! Pricey, but the food is very high quality. It is also a fun and entertaining experience. The pork belly is my favourite. Gotta leave it on the grill for a while to get it nice and crispy!
I love that this place doesn’t up charge for a gluten free bun, and also offers a lettuce wrap. I had the turkey burger which was delicious, added goat cheese. Kamila is always so lovely. I always hope that she’s our server whenever we stop by!
Love the food and the ambience here! First of all the ambience is super chill, they have tons of greenery all over the restaurant. Bathrooms are neat and tidy which is always nice to see. The service was wonderful, I forget my servers name but everybody was super helpful. I got myself the Pesto Chicken Penne Penne Asiago and they were super accomodating for my Gluten Allergy!
Went to this location with co-worker on Tuesday. Worst experience ever. Never been treated so badly.
First, the girl that was at the till has no customer service at all. Did not greet us, not friendly and no eye contact. when we ask questions, she seemed super annoyed with our questions. Missed half of the stuff we requested for.
Second, food quality was not good. Missed bacon on their famous Mr. chicken. Gluten free buns were stale and hard. Did not apologized for the mistakes at all.
Third, all the tables were dirty, the girl at the till asked us to clean the table ourselves.
Definitely not going to recommend this to anyone.
Burgers, ribs, and fries are delicious! Specially sweet potatoes fries 🤤 Also, you can have gluten-free buns for your burger 🫰🏼 and cocktails are amazing! My fav is The Patio Joe
Went here for a dinner of 6 people. The waitress was amazing. I have a strict diet and I have to be Gluten free. I ordered a burger on GF bread and it was DELICIOUS 😋 It's hard to find good tasting GF bread, I would highly recommend James Joyce!
Unfortunately, the visibility was very cloudy due to the forest fires, but we still had a very nice evening. Kimberly was extremely friendly with a natural manner and even loaned us two shirts as it was quite cold - thank you! The food was excellent, especially the tenderloin with shrimp was awesome :-)
Gluten-free dishes were not marked on the menu, but we received competent information.
Held my daughter graduation event for the family at One18. Angelyn and her team were amazing, even making some last minute accommodations to fit the layout that our daughter wanted, we had the back section and it was modified to allow for mingling.
We had a number of individuals who were Celiac and the food preparation was amazing, they even made some sliders that were gluten free including the buns!
Food and drinks were amazing, if you’re planning on hosting an event, consider One18. We will be back again.
This cafe is wonderful! Food is shockingly tasty! Def recommend the Italian panini, smashburger and choc ganache cake (never know it is gluten free due to an awesome pastry chef.) Gorgeous decor, very high end unique vibe.
And Sam delivers the most kind and thoughtful service. Well done, Sam!
Stopped by while enjoying a mild day walking by the river. Welcomed by Jess Lee, whose service thereafter and all through was attentive, friendly and hospitable.
Their French Press coffee was stronger than expected, nothing like a spot of milk to temper it some. Their English Breakfast tea was served in just the right pot size, with the perfect teacup and saucer, and with milk and sugar on the side (all without asking).
Their Steak BLT Sandwich was pretty good and paired with the soup-of-the-day (broccoli). Their Chickpea & Avocado Sandwich was okay and paired with the fries (which were crisp, thin, and just the right bite size). We would love to see them introduce a couple more gluten-free vegan options; perhaps even make them their specialty.
We will be back for another meal. If one has not given them a try as yet - one should.
Fun atmosphere, amazing food, and great live music!
We booked a table for 2 for dinner after visiting the stampede grounds. We saw the restaurant as we passed by on our way to the grounds and it looked like a fun place to grab a bite to eat.
I’m so glad we decided to give it a try. The band was awesome and the service was great. We ordered 2 drinks and a meal to share. We tried their new “Stampede Bowl” - you pick 2 bases, 1 protein, slaw, pickles, and cornbread. My friend has a gluten allergy and we were surprised at how many items on the menu she could have (fyi: not 100% celiac friendly- shared fryers). We shared the garlic shrimp bowl with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies, and we’re pleasantly surprised at the presentation and flavours. Super impressed! Everything on the plate was absolutely delicious. It was light but filling enough, and the perfect way to end our busy stampede day.
Only small complaint is that the prices are a tad high, but it was worth it for a fun night out. And we completely understand that during times like this, food supplies are pricey as well.
Overall, we loved our dinner at the King Eddy. We’ll definitely return knowing how amazing the food and atmosphere were.
We decided to try their Sunday brunch buffet for a special occasion event and they did not disappoint!
As they're part of the Hyatt Hotel they had beautiful Christmas decor which made the place look really nice.
We received friendly service through the entire meal, although they forgot our drinks orders a few times and couldn't be found for a long time at one point.
Their selection of food was excellent, with clear labels in front stating allergens or lack of. I actually found many items were gluten and dairy free, which is great for those with intolerances. They also constantly replaced empty plates/trays so there was always freshly prepped food out.
They had the usual breakfast items like scrambled eggs, omelettes made to order, sausages etc, and they also have eggs benedict's made to order, followed by a carvery station featuring med rare striploin roast, seafood like jumbo shrimp and Atlantic smoked salmon, then the charcuterie board with lots of pickled items, cured meats and cheeses. The highlight dishes for me were definitely the plump jumbo shrimp and the tender smoked salmon- the salmon tasted like it was made in house, it was far better than any store bought one I've ever had!
For hot foods they had corn chowder which was delicious and creamy, variety of vegetable dishes, fish and more.
Their desserts selection was smaller but still a good variety. I loved their mini tres leches pots.
The price was $45/pp which is on the higher side for a lunch/brunch buffet but the quality and variety of food was excellent so it was worth it for us! I can't wait to go back for another celebratory meal!
2024: The burger here is delicious - hefty, juicy, and not well-done. Fries are generous and also thick and crispy! Was in and out of here during lunch hour in under 45 min. so it's doable for a work lunch if you don't have a large party!
2023: Hosted an office holiday party for 50 people here in December. The events coordinator was patient and very responsive to our changing attendance numbers, dietary restrictions (gluten, dairy, shellfish), and budget. The staff on the evening of the event were excellent - always refreshing drinks and offering canapes while keeping the venue spotless. We had a mix of hot and cold appetizers with larger shareable plates. The mushroom risotto served on a cheese wheel and the oysters were the winners of the night but everything was delicious. The venue fit everyone comfortably, and we had the place to ourselves. Light background music kept it lively but wasn't too loud - hard to find if you're sharing a space with other parties.
I ordered 6 bagels to take out. 2 cheese, 2 sesame and 2 poppy . Got 4 cheese 1 poppy 1 sesame. So order was not correct. Bagels are very bland and tough they taste like gluten free, not that good for the price. I have had better
Cactus club kicked it out of the park, food wise! I think the menu got better since the last time (about 2 yrs ago). They had good options for vegan, gluten free. Happy hour ends at 5 if you want to jump in and grab a couple of drinks before an early dinner before a play. It was incredibly busy for a Thursday night. But we had a
booth so that helped us still hear our own conversations. Would recommend reservations (our party had 7) .
The absolute BEST gluten free Chinese food I've ever had. Ginger Beef, Sesame Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, and Beef and Broccoli - all outstanding and can be made gluten free!!
Went here for lunch and two people in our group ordered the lettuce wrap, however was given the chicken sandwich instead. When we pointed this out, the waitress proceeded to gaslight us saying that's what we ordered in the first place despite everyone else in the group confirming this wasn't the case. They couldn't even eat the chicken sandwich due to their gluten allergies. They never ended up getting the correct order before lunch was over and left hungry.
I get mistakes with orders happens and lunchtime is busy, but gaslighting our group saying this is what we ordered and not correcting it is unacceptable.
Can't say too much about the food because we didn't get to eat it. Very disappointed.
Was really excited for this place for our pre wedding celebrations with family. The ambiance is really lovely. However it was impossible to get a drink, and I was promised a gluten free bun and vegan cheese and they didn’t have either. So paid $22 for a burger with lettuce and bacon and a few greens. It took over 30 minutes to get the bill when we told the waitresses we were in a rush and asked for it three times.
