Leslie Gluten Free Finds
One of the few places with a dedicated gf pizza oven. The pizza is great. They'll also make a gf "focaccia" using the pizza crust which is also delicious. They also have gf pasta.
1,000/10 cannot recommend Chaia enough! My wife and I fell in love with Chaia thanks to their brussels sprouts quesadilla and salsa verde, which we would highly, highly recommend. There's also a little park next door that can be used for especially nice days weather-wise.
Because of our love for Chaia, my wife and I reached out to Chaia when we were looking for a venue to host a party for some family and friends coming to visit DC from out of town, and they put together an absolutely outstanding evening. Bettina (co-founder/co-CEO) was excellent throughout the planning process, making sure that the party was just as we wanted it. Even as our plans shifted a time or two, Bettina graciously worked with us to make sure that everything would be fine. The vegetarian and gluten-free dishes made accommodating various dietary restrictions incredibly easy, and as expected, the food and drinks were excellent. (Our guests raved to us about the food, especially the habenro pepita dip.) Leyla and Abigail, the staff who were on-site for the event, also went above and beyond to make the evening a great time. We are so thankful we had our celebration at Chaia, and we highly recommend it to anyone else looking for a venue for an intimate celebration!
Very knowledgeable waitstaff as well as a clearly marked menu. We went for Restaurant Week and I was so thrilled to be able to participate in the RW specials. Two thumbs up for a stress free experience as a celiac!

100% Gluten free. Paradise for celiacs. Chips with guacamole and amazing spicy sauces. Tacos with different meat and fish offerings. Remove the fried prawns, pork belly and duck. All very tasty.
Exceptional service! & Amazing gluten-free food! Had no reaction whatsoever! As someone with Celiac I felt confident eating here and staff was very knowledgeable!
Absolutely DELICIOUS tacos. OMG I wish I could teleport these to Boston. The cornbread was also so delicious!!
What drew me to this place was the fact that the menu only marks what HAS gluten instead of what can be made gluten-free, suggesting that the menu is quite expansive for gluten-free diners. While yes, it is, the caveat is that there is significant cross-contamination for fried items. So, I was lured by the taquitos, but the bartender told me that they’re fried in the same oil as other items that aren’t gluten-free, hence the cross-contamination. I think they should be more straightforward about this on the menu when one looks online ahead of time.
Otherwise an excellent experience with still some amazing choices.
great ambience and service. lots of gluten free options. loved everything i ordered (meat platter) but wish i got lamb instead of the beef kofte. i felt like the flavor was good but didn’t exactly jump out at me– especially in the stews. but the standout for me was the rice pudding!!! one of my favorite desserts of all time.
Maybe it was the time of day, maybe my bar is lower because I am gluten free…but I loved it! I went around 2 on a weekday and was impressed by the ambiance, service, quality of beverage options and best of all…gluten free chicken and waffles?!!! Never have I ever. Unnecessarily pricey AF…but imo so is everything in DC, regardless of quality/quantify…so 🤷🏻♀️
The atmosphere/ambiance of the place is wonderful . The staff is also really kind! I loved that there was a bookstore inside the place. The food is really good and the price is reasonable. Also, for my muslim brother and sister out there, they serve halal chicken and meat as stated in the menu, which is really nice! There were also vegaterian options and gluten free options. Love it!
The Harvest Turkey Bowl on special was amazing and loaded with flavor. Cranberry Harissa Sauce with Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Turkey, Green Beans and Basmati Rice this is the best gluten free Thanksgiving style meal ever!
Great food, all gluten free (I have celiac disease, and this takes away all stress over cross contamination), and casual.
It is an easy place to stop at and get a good meal that doesn’t weigh you down but satisfies you at the same time.
We were looking for a bite to eat after viewing the Phillips Collection. The menu lacks information for those on a gluten free or vegan diet. The dining area is small, crowded, and noisy. The tables were filled with young adults chatting away long after they finished eating (if they ate at all) so we had no choice but to stand or sit on the stairwell ledge. Otherwise the food and tea was enjoyable.
Concept is nice but very poorly executed, no actual Hechsher only basic vegan/parve certificate. (Beware if you are shomer!) Dollar general ingredients and trader Joe's falafel quality. A bit overpriced and tastes nothing like israeli food. Nice place to chill tho . No gluten free pita!!!!
I’ve been to multiple locations based on various places I’ve lived in the DMV area, and each one has been great. I came here when I needed a last minute dinner, and just like all the other locations, the employees are chill, the food is fresh and delicious, and there are plenty of options from the build your own bowl, ordering ones they already have on their menu, or even their version of a burrito made with seaweed instead of a tortilla.
A big plus for me is that everything is gluten free. As some with celiac disease, and has very violent and severe reactions from the smallest amount of cross contamination, places like SEOULSPICE is a gem. I’ve only been able to find locations in the DMV area, so I certainly don’t take it for granted. It is far more safe for me to eat here, and if you like the build your own bowl experience and are willing to try something new, I’d say it is significantly better than Chipotle.
If you are vegetarian, I would ask questions about how they prepare their tofu (whether or not it is prepared separately from the meat protein options). They have 7 veggie options (you can choose as many as you want) but I would check their online menu to make sure you like the options they have. They also have toppings that are all vegetarian, and they have add-ons, one of which is avocado if you like it or want an add-on.
There are more options with drinks and even individually packaged gluten free cookies (at least at all the locations I’ve been to)
It’s safe to say this is my go-to.
We are gluten-free and dairy-free. If that's you, this may be a good option. Everything there is dairy-free, with some options also being gluten-free. Service is mid. If you call them, it often takes days for someone to answer or return a call. When you go in-person, the salesperson is knowledgeable but not necessarily warm. We've been several times for a sweet-giz. The brownies are moist and sweet (the one thats like a brownie sandwich with cream in the middle had more of a cake consistency and bot super moist like a brownie). The cookies that I've tried (oatmeal whoopie/cream pie and chocolate chip) were not very moist and only moderately sweet. I don't necessarily need a lot of sweetness, but my crew does, and they thought it was just ok. I recently ordered a birthday cake from them for my neice. After some back-and-forth and calling over 2 days, they accommodated our request to pick it up for hours earlier (they have a 72-hour pre-order rule, or something like that). Had someone answered our calls, it would've been easy to adjust the time, but i digress...
The cake was pretty, and the sweetness was on-point. However, it was a bit dry, though. I bake dairy-free and vegan desserts myself, so I know it can be tricky to get the moistness correct, so I'm hoping that they will tinker with their formula to make their items a bit more moist. We would come back bc dairy-free and gluten-free options are slim pickings (it's usually just one or the other), but I would just stick with the brownie.
I'm adding a photo of the cake, which was super cute. We purchased the toppers ourselves.
I really liked this restaurant. 99% of the items are gluten-free! I had the trio of salsa and guac and chips. The only things that were not gluten-free with the kids menu and the desserts. My only complaint is you have to ask what’s on every single taco. It’s not listed on their menus anywhere. But my server was super helpful and everything tasted amazing!
Was in DC for a couple of days and stopped by here for brunch on my last day. The place is located in CityCenterDC which is a cute stretch of restaurants and high end shops.
The place is small with some outside seating. You order your food and then grab a seat if dining in and they bring your food to you.
I ordered the large sweet berry waffle, which is essentially a regular sized waffle instead of a half waffle which you can also order. I also had the Nobility juice.
The juice ended up being more expensive than I thought. There is a charge for the juice and then an up charge for the size. It ended up costing me $12.95 ($9.95 + $3.00 for a medium size). The waffle was $15.95. I think that is too expensive for a drink.
It’s not easy to find gluten free vegan waffles and pancakes so whenever I run across them I order them. The waffle was tasty and the strawberries and blueberries were fresh. The Nobility juice was good. It definitely had a green taste to it as I suspected. I’m not a big fan of green juice, but felt I could use less sweetness since I was eating a waffle with fruit.
I would eat here again, but try a different juice and at a smaller size.
I would come back here when I get to visit DC again. Food was great albeit a smaller menu. Drink selection was good and they were tasty too. Gluten free, celiac safe with corn quesadillas.
We enjoyed a great dinner at Joe's. We were able to get a last-minute reservation while in town for one night. The food was excellent, but the service was top-notch, and I would give our server, Jeffery, 10 stars if I could.
First, they were extremely accommodating with my extensive food allergies. My son and husband have no food allergies, so they got to enjoy a lot more than me.
I opted for the grilled seafood platter that came with scallops, lobster, and shrimp and for a side sautted mushrooms. Everything was made gluten-free, also dairy, soy, peanut, and treenut free.
It was hearty and delicious and I don't often enjoy a meal so much, especiallyseafood. It's hard to find places that can accommodating me.
My son got filet with crab Oscar and my husband a ribeye with bearnaise. They shared a mashed potatoe and a lobster mac.
Jeffery was attentive and funny, and we enjoyed his stories. It made the experience even better.
We are looking forward to eating there again next time we are in town.
To preface, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease close to 20 years ago when I was 5 years old. I'm used to my options being limited or nonexistent when I go out to eat with friends, especially when it comes to Korean food. (Curse you soy sauce!!!)
Also to preface, my friends and I were in town for the StrayKids concert yesterday. The entire day of the concert, all I'd had to eat was a packet of microwave 90 second rice, and a couple protein bars that I had packed ahead of time in my suitcase just in case. Needless to say, I was starving and in desperate need of some good food when we got going this morning.
A search entry for "gf food near me" in Google maps popped up with a few options near the hotel we were staying at including SeoulSpice. When I saw it was Korean food I was expecting maybe a couple things that could be modified to make them somewhat safe. Boy was I wrong. 😆
When I tell you I audibly gasped and startled my friends when I saw the words, "100% Gluten Free" on the website, I'm not lying. And the food? Did NOT disappoint. 🙌 I got a little bit of basically everything in my bowl and Debbie piled it so high the lid barely fit on the take out container.
And its not just the portion sizes about SeoulSpice that are incredibly large, their hearts are too. When I told Debbie how long I'd been gluten free, and that I was unaccustomed to having options out and about so was very overwhelmed, she walked me through every ingredient and option behind the counter and offered suggestions about some of her favorite combos, too.
Also! Because we were the only ones there (we got there right when they opened) Debbie let me try each of the sauces so I could make a more informed decision for my bowl topping and pointed out when I was checking out that there were also Gluten-free cookies like chocolate chip and red velvet (which was so good by the way).
The only thing I would say needs improvement is the door is incredibly heavy. 🤣 Careful not to throw your back out trying to get in the door to reach the food that tastes like the mana of the gods and kind, understanding faces like Debbie that reside within.
The breakdown!
The prices: 10/10
-Reasonable and affordable
The food: 100/10
-Huge portions and Delicious!
The people: 1000/10
-Incredibly kind and helpful
Thank you, for the delicious food and for helping me feel accepted for who I was and what I live and struggle with everyday. Basically... Thank you for helping me feel normal, Debbie and the SeoulSpice crew. When I'm back in town this way be assured I will come back as frequently as I can during my stay .
I hope y'all have a nice day! And I hope everyone who reads this gives them a try. They're worth it.😊
Had a great time here! I have celiac disease which can be very stressful when traveling. This place was suggested to me as they have protocols to avoid cross contamination. After placing my order a manager came over and said my waiter had let her know that I have an allergy/sensitivity and that they take it ver seriously. She said they work hard to ensure there is no cross contamination and that my food would come out with a red flag to confirm it is gluten free. This made me feel very comfortable as I didn’t even ask to talk to anyone they just did it! I had gluten free rigatoni alla vodka which was good. I was so happy with the service that I came back today for breakfast and had some of the best home fries I’ve ever had! Highly recommend this place, food, staff, and atmosphere are all great.
Was looking for somewhere to eat between going to Smithsonian’s. We needed somewhere with gluten free options and the gluten free crust was very good! (I can’t speak to if it’s celiac friendly) limited seating but we were looking for a quick stop, so this was exactly what we needed.
If you are on a gluten free diet, this restaurant is a real treat. This is the ONLY restaurant I know of in the entire DC area that offers gluten free French toast!!! It is really yummy. It is gluten free cinnamon raison bread that they make into French toast. It is served with maple syrup that has few slices of bananas in it. It is always served warm. (Be sure to look for the bananas. If the French toast is served with sliced strawberries, that is the wheat based French toast.)
This restaurant also has gluten free bread so most of their sandwiches can be made gluten free upon request. And they can make their eggs benedict gluten free by using their gluten free toast.
It is a very pleasant experience dining here. I usually dine outside. They are located on a small street in Georgetown. Georgetown can be crowded but on this small street, it is never very busy. On a nice weather day, it is a pleasant experience to eat the gluten free French toast while enjoying the weather.
The service is always good too. I enthusiastically recommend this restaurant.

I enjoy the Royal for relatively celiac safe gluten free brunch. I haven’t tried their evening food options, but they do have lovely cocktails. It is a QR code type place, so fellow celiacs should ask for the gf menu before ordering and mark their dishes with gluten allergy/celiac. I’ve approached the counter before with questions and staff were chill and helpful. Good brunch spot, good first date spot on quiet evenings. The food and drinks are consistently tasty. I usually get one of the arepas for brunch. They usually seem to use Oatly, though I ask each time I order a coffee drink that has milk.
Note, it is quite loud inside at busy times (and occasionally loud outside from sirens passing by). Recommend reservations for busy times.
Obsessed with this place. Was in Dulles for two weeks and managed to get down to DC twice and went to District both times. I had their breakfast tacos the first time and their regular tacos and chips/guac the second time. You order on kiosks which is fun and easy and get to choose between like 25 different topping options. Their corn tortilla tacos come double wrapped and all bundled up together so they taste authentic and delicious. I got pretty much all the toppings. Their medium salsa is to die for. They have impossible chorizo and an option to select Gluten Free which was amazing. The guacamole was flavorful with a nice hint of lime. I love a good taco but these tacos were life changing🤌🏼
We really enjoyed our experience here. With our allergies (gluten and dairy) the staff was attentive and flexible with our needs. It’s always appreciated people know what is in the dishes they are making, and we were either redirected to other choices or a modification can be made.
The deviled eggs were prepared without dairy (in the mousse) and they were still delicious. Green beans and sweet potatoes were paired with our steaks and they amazing.
We also enjoyed our cocktails — Manhattan Noir — which were prepared perfectly, and topped with three Luxardo cherries.
Atmosphere was great as well. The boardwalk area is fun and vibrant. The Grill makes an excellent choice for a higher end meal in this area.
**Satisfying Experience at The Capital Burger 🍔🍟**
Dining at The Capital Burger was an absolutely delightful experience that I am eager to recount. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance was warm and inviting, perfectly setting the stage for a wonderful meal. 🌟
Our party indulged in a variety of selections from their tempting menu, beginning with the delectable bacon cheeseburgers. Each burger was crafted with precision, featuring juicy patties complemented by the rich, smoky flavor of bacon and perfectly melted cheese. The Capital Burger, a signature dish, did not disappoint either; it stood out with its harmonious blend of flavors and tender texture. 🍔
For those in our group with dietary preferences, the bacon cheeseburger with a gluten-free bun was a notable highlight. The bun held up beautifully, maintaining the integrity and taste of the classic burger experience. It’s heartening to see such considerate options available, ensuring everyone has a satisfying meal.
For our little one, the children’s grilled cheese meal was a hit. Simple yet delicious, it was a comforting choice that appealed to their taste perfectly. 🧀
What truly enhanced our dining adventure was the impeccable service. The staff was attentive and kind, ensuring our experience was seamless and enjoyable from start to finish. 🙌
In conclusion, The Capital Burger offers not just fantastic food but an overall exceptional dining experience. It’s a place I look forward to visiting again soon, and I highly recommend it to others seeking both taste and quality. 🍽️
I would usually rate this restaurant higher. I have been to a different location before and had good service as well as they have gluten free options. This time after moving apartments I did a pick up order. I was excited for the lamb burger with the gluten free bread. My boyfriend got a burger and roommate got a Cuban panini. I would say the food was okay a 3.5 but my issue is how my boyfriend was treated when getting into the restaurant.
I sent my boyfriend in because I was driving. Told him to pick up the order with my name on it. He texts me asking for confirmation. That’s okay because a guy is picking up a girls order. He comes to the car and says the guy “looked him up and down and told he needs to show proof”.
I understand the asking for proof but it’s the tone. It’s the way you ask for things, the attitude you have. My boyfriend is North African/Arabic and it’s GIVING RACIAL PROFILING.
So imagine being emotionally exhausted from moving in the DC humidity and heat and then someone makes you feel like that at the end of your day. All to have a sub par burger.
The interior could use a little updating - but the food was delicious. Got the bang bang gluten free pizza, pepperoni gluten free and a plain cheese pizza (non gluten free). All was delicious and the employees were friendly.
Tried to go on a Sunday at 6pm. They state online they are open until 7pm. Had been looking forward to it since we had heard they have gluten free batter. Got there and they were closed. Very disappointing.
