My husband and I frequent Old Europe for their delicious cakes and coffee, so when it came time to pick a vendor for our wedding desserts, it was an easy choice! Abby helped us choose a variety of small cake flavors, and made sure each one was gluten free (I have celiac disease). She also walked us through customizing a larger cake for the two of us. Everything turned out beautiful, and our guests raved about how pretty and delicious our desserts were.
Also of note- our original wedding was the day after Hurricane Helene. Old Europe made it super easy to reschedule for our new date!
I love this place. I've been here a few times and I like it more the more I visit.
The food options are numerous for me (Gluten allergy) and I'm all about organic foods. They are also very conscious of allergies and accommodate accordingly.
The staff is friendly and playful, too! They clearly care about the principles of this place.
And atmosphere is nothing special, but gets the job done. 5 stars for sustainability though, with their steel cutlery and plates.
Come check it out! Totally worth it.
Stopped in for breakfast on a Friday morning around 9am. Was able to be seated immediately. Our server Garrett was great. The food itself was just ok. Their Biscuit French sounded great but not that flavorful to me. Also had the two egg breakfast which comes with eggs, fried potatoes, and one biscuit. Bacon or sausage are add-on sides. Have gluten free options which is nice. The atmosphere was fairly plain but clean and comfortable. We were in the front room. The backroom looks more interesting with tables along the windows. The location is good near the Flatiron building on Wall Street. Convenient to walk to if staying downtown. I would try again but different menu items.
I am madly in love with this establishment.
I talk nonstop about this place, having vegan and gluten free options that are very delicious. Dobra is such a traditionally raw beauty. :) I can't wait to make all my Asheville journeys mainly for you guys!
Always great food and service here. As a celiac, I appreciate the car and attention the team show to label my food and offer me substitutions for the items I cannot eat. Love the southern scramble and biscuit. A thank you to Joey for taking care of me today, and the sisters who often look after me at this location
We were seated quickly and the food came fast too. Michael was very attentive. Our whole party enjoyed our food and experience. I appreciated the gluten friendly menu and both the gf bourbon street pancakes and gf toast were delicious!
Sunny Point Cafe, located at 626 Haywood Road in West Asheville, North Carolina, has been a beloved establishment since its opening in 2003. Known for its farm-to-table approach, the cafe offers a diverse menu that caters to a wide range of dietary preferences, including vegan and gluten-sensitive options. The on-site garden adjacent to the dining area supplies fresh ingredients, ensuring that each dish is both flavorful and sustainable.
The cafe's ambiance reflects Asheville's eclectic and welcoming spirit. With its hippie-chic decor and colorful chalkboard specials, Sunny Point creates a vibrant yet cozy atmosphere. The staff is frequently praised for their friendliness and attentiveness, contributing to a dining experience that feels both personal and enjoyable.
Sunny Point Cafe's menu features several standout dishes that have garnered both local and national acclaim. The Huevos Rancheros, a signature breakfast item, consists of two eggs, black bean cakes, chorizo (or tofu chorizo), feta cheese, potatoes, and green salsa, topped with cilantro crema and freshly made tortilla chips. This dish was voted #2 in the nation by Good Morning America.
Another favorite is the Shrimp and Grits, an award-winning house special that combines chipotle cheddar grits with blackened shrimp, bacon, roasted tomatoes, and a white wine Dijon cream sauce. The dish is noted for its rich, smoky flavor and the unique kick provided by the chipotle grits.
For those seeking a hearty meal, the Fried Chicken and Waffle Sandwich is a popular choice. This dish features a sweet potato waffle paired with a fried chicken thigh, pimento cheese, bacon, and jalapeño jam, offering a delightful blend of sweet and savory flavors.
Despite its popularity, Sunny Point Cafe maintains a commitment to quality and community. The on-site garden not only supplies fresh produce for the kitchen but also serves as a pleasant diversion for guests during peak hours. Visitors are encouraged to explore the garden, which showcases the cafe's dedication to sustainability and farm-to-table dining.
It's worth noting that due to its popularity, the cafe often experiences long wait times, especially during peak hours. Many patrons consider the wait worthwhile, given the quality of the food and service. However, those on a tight schedule might consider visiting during off-peak times or be prepared for a leisurely dining experience.
In summary, Sunny Point Cafe embodies the essence of Asheville's vibrant culinary scene. With its commitment to fresh, locally sourced ingredients, diverse menu offerings, and welcoming atmosphere, it continues to be a favorite among both locals and visitors. Whether you're in the mood for a classic breakfast, a hearty lunch, or a unique brunch experience, Sunny Point Cafe offers a dining experience that is both satisfying and memorable.
Stopped in here hoping to see some gluten free options and was surprised to find not only biscuits, but full brioche loaves! They also had THE only oatmeal cream pie I've had in over 15 years of being gluten free. Amazing!
Had a wonderful brunch at Chestnut! The pimento cheese tater tots were amazing! I can’t wait to go back for dinner and try the fried green tomatoes! All gluten-free items are noted on the menu. The servers are very helpful if you have any questions!
Our lunch was delicious! The restaurant and city are recovering from the hurricane, so the menu was limited, but very tasty! We had delicious salad, sweet potato fries, the soup of the day, and a BLT wrap with slaw. The salad and fries were our favorites. Great gluten free options, and a nice cafe location with patio. The staff did a great job despite the challenges they are facing. Thank you Green Sage!!! We appreciate your service and delicious food for those with allergies and dietary restrictions 😊
IT WAS SO AMAZING I CAME HERE 3 TIMES IN A WEEK. I CANT RECCOMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH. It deserves 7 stars. Everything is gluten free and celiac safe.
all the staff is wonderful. Everyone was very accommodating and the owner Jason was absolutely kind beyond means.
Each time I came here and tried something new. I can't even tell you that I've had a favorite because everything was new and had unique flavors. Just the fact that everything is gluten-free means that there's so many different options to try.
I loved every flavor I had. The portions are huge! The food is fresh and everything is cooked there. There was not one bad thing I could say about this place. Theres not one thing that I disliked here. Id come back a million more times.
From the whole fish, to the pandebono, to the fish stew with coconut milk, everything is to die for. Amazing restaurant and amazing quality. Everything is perfect. The food comes out fast too. Well done.
Went in for dinner tonight and got a table for 3 after maybe a 10 min wait, which was amazing. The host was super friendly and got us situated.
Our server (Asil) greeted us with waters and sold us on hibiscus teas, stating if we didn’t like them we could swap them out. We ordered pretty quickly after. We ordered cauliflower for an appetizer, falafel gyro (gluten free) with potatoes, lamb gyro (gluten free) with a side Greek salad, and a chicken kabob platter (no dietary restrictions). I expressed our gluten sensitivity to the server. She seemed to be understanding of what we needed. After that she never came back except to drop the dishes and I mean literally drop. Halfway off the table. No check back, no water refills, nothing. I realized upon trying my salad there were croutons, which I can’t have. We waited, waited and waited. The whole table finished everything (minus my salad) and still no sign of our server. It wasn’t until another server overheard me say “I guess our server forgot us?” that anyone checked back at all. She took the salad and went to correct it. We sat there a while longer and then our server finally came over. I explained the salad issue. She said “yeah the salad has croutons” like I was supposed to know that even after a full discussion about me being gluten sensitive. She eventually came back with the salad…dropping it as if I was wrong for having an issue. It was almost confrontational. I’m not sure how else to describe it. Everyone else at the table had long since finished their meals so I asked for a box. She stormed back over with 4 boxes. “I brought different sizes because I don’t know what you need.” Over the treatment from the server, who literally didn’t provide service throughout the entire meal, I got up and brought her my card. I asked “have I offended you in some way?” A nearby server promptly quipped “no one’s offended we’re just really busy” to which our server said “yeah I was just really nervous because your salad was taking so long.” I responded stating she never checked on us once…
Long story short…the food was excellent…BEWARE if you have dietary restrictions though….the service however was so poor that at that price point we won’t be back.
This is a great place!! We enjoyed our delicious burgers & fries at the huge outdoor seating area with our 2 dogs. Their gluten free bun was pretty good too. We then shared a piece of their gluten free carrot cake and OMG!!! We'll definitely be back!
I’ve been coming here for the gluten free donuts for a few years. This morning I ordered a decaf coffee drink to go with them. I didn’t notice on the menu it said 4oz which was the size of a shot glass. That is my fault for not noticing it and it actually made me laugh when it came out. I was going to learn my lesson and drink this tiny drink. However, after trying it the decaf was burnt and gross. Instead of asking her to remake it, I asked for half a cup of steamed milk to combine it with to cancel out the burnt flavor and make it bigger. The barista was rude and told me she’d have to charge me for the milk, which I pushed back on. Eventually she gave me the milk but her anger while making it made me uncomfortable and upset. Most places would offer to make a new drink for you, not fight you over 1/2 cup of steamed milk. Normally, the staff here has been nice so maybe it was an off day but it makes me want to stick to just donuts next time.
friendly staff and food was great. i briefly mentioned it was my girlfriends birthday and they surprised us both with this. very nice. gluten free options which is a plus
Just had an unforgettable meal at Gemelli’s in Asheville and had to share! If you’re craving authentic Italian—think house-made pastas, risottos, and desserts that taste like they came straight from Italy—this is the spot. The atmosphere is cozy and European-inspired, perfect for a date night or family dinner.
Favorites from our table: the cacio e pepe, calabrian scampi, and the cannoli (seriously, don’t skip dessert!). The staff is warm and attentive, and they offer gluten-free options too.
Bonus: prices are reasonable for the quality, and there’s plenty of parking. Highly recommend Gemelli’s for anyone looking for a true Italian experience right here in Asheville! 🇮🇹✨
Excellent! This was my first visit to Tupelo Honey, but so many people have told me how delicious their food is - and boy were they right! They have a great selection of menu items with plenty of choices for people who are gluten free. They also have delicious mocktails and a substantial bar menu.
We went for brunch on New Year's Day, so it was probably more busy than it would typically be - but we only had to wait a short time before getting a table and enjoying our brunch.
Excellent quality "fast " food. I've eaten here many times. They have a variety of options, including vegan and gluten-free. Inside dining can be noisy. Outdoor dining in the backyard is preferable if the weather is nice. There's lots of picnic tables with umbrellas.
The service was great, everyone was so kind! The food was also DELICIOUS! This is the best place I’ve eaten at since coming to the Asheville area; so good I don’t want to go to a different spot and I want to come back here instead! There are many options for vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and meat lovers! Everything is local and the mission behind this place is wonderful. I got the Tempe sandwich and fries and it was SOOOO good and SO flavorful! The kale salad with the dressing (super good dressing) and scramble were also delicious! Great price too.
A great lunch spot while visiting Biltmore Estate. GF items are marked. They don’t have a dedicated fryer for fries at this restaurant. The GF buns are homemade and are so delicious!!
I used to love going to Odd’s Cafe, and would recommend it to my friends all the time, but the last 3 times I’ve been, the espresso had a burnt taste and I had to throw out my drinks because they were undrinkable. The environment there used to be bright and friendly, but there’s now a pretentious air about the place and I don’t feel welcomed when I come in.
The gluten free treats are pretty good, so it’s worth it to stop in for a to go snack, just stay away from the coffee and espresso, and choose tea or a smoothie.
The staff was friendly, the cafe had a nice atmosphere and was very clean. Very interesting, healthy dishes. Great vegan and gluten free options.
WARNING: They don't season their food even half decently. Make sure to salt your food thoroughly before you leave if you get takeout, or have salt and pepper on hand at home.
Also, for a "healthy alternative that doesn't even salt their food properly" place, the lack of a nutritional guide, or any kind of calorie information available is a huge letdown. This place ultimately fails to be perfect for health nuts, or for people who want food to taste really good. But it was still a decent experience with food that was good after liberal application of my own seasonings.
While I have been gifted treats from here, this was my first time visiting for myself. We opted for the drive thru window. We had to wait a few minutes for service. There appeared to just be one person helping people inside as well as the drive thru. The wait gave us enough time to figure out what we wanted. There was a handwritten chalkboard with all of the menu items for the day. Unfortunately the regular breakfast cookies, which are our go-to, were sold out. My son did snag the last gluten free breakfast cookie. My daughter opted for a blueberry muffin while I had the pineapple banana bread. Both were good but not quite as good as our usual breakfast cookies. The gluten free breakfast cookie was put in a bag along with the non-gluten free items, which was a little concerning.
I'm glad that I had the opportunity to support a small business and look forward to returning again!
We love Cecilia’s. We have been coming since they opened, and prior to that, we had been frequenting their food truck. We were really hoping for something fabulous to come into the spot they now occupy, since it is so close to our home, and we were very happy to see Cecelia‘s not only arrive, but hoist a tent and be able to have outdoor dining to survive Covid. We have had many of the items on the menu, and especially love the mushroom crêpe, the French onion soup, and the tamales. We were there the other day, and really had a beautiful meal. See photos. My only complaint is that sometimes when we go, the food is excellent, and sometimes when we go, the crêpes don’t have as much stuffing. So it’s a little inconsistent. I love to take friends here, and tell them the crepes are wonderful, and bonus that they are gluten-free, and then sometimes the stuffing will not be particularly filling, and it’s a bit disappointing. But I’d say eight times out of 10, the food quality is excellent. Certainly a favorite lunch place of ours. My only suggestion would be to watch consistency, and make sure those crêpes are full and lovely, with lots of stuffing! Today’s visit was excellent! P.s. Don’t skip out on the French onion soup. It really is beautifully done!
UPDATE:
Had the Popeye and it had a lot of good spinach!
Sooo sad they aren't serving gluten free doughnuts any more. They said it's temporary while they get another location up and running. I hope they return gf offerings soon, because they are amazing!
Taco Temple is the best taco joint in Asheville. And I'm from Austin, Texas, so I know tacos. They have fresh, healthy options as well as decadent ones, and everything can be accommodated for a Gluten Free and/or Dairy Free diet (although probably not for Celiacs with cross contamination). Great Guacamole and salsa options, too, as well as a great variety of sides and salads. It's counter service, which is fast and easy, and the indoor and outdoor seating is charming and cheerful. Great place for a casual first date! They also have a drive through window pick up for take-out (order ahead of time), which is super convenient and pretty quick. When I'm missing Austin noms, this is where I go.
My hands down FAV place in Asheville for lunch. The Reuben in gluten free bread is FANTASTIC! With gluten restrictions in my diet, I was over the moon to find a place that offered this- only place I have EVER found a gluten free Reuben. The corner beef is lean, juicy, and DELISH! I always ask for extra pickles on the side, and they oblige with no problem. Fast, friendly, and fresh! Lots of great sides too, which change daily. I have never had ANYTHING from there that was bad. And, they are reasonably priced for AVL. They also offer half sandwiches too for a lighter appetite. Do yourself a favor and grab some lunch there next time you're in town!
I love this community coffee shop. It has a great vibe. It's across the street from my office, so I don't have to worry about parking. They have great murals on the walls and support local artists by allowing them to sell their goods at the store. They even give a cash discount and one for bringing your own coffee cup too. Thank you for the service. I wish the gluten free items lasted longer into the day, but that's just a testament to how yummy they are. Many thanks.
It’s been a little bit since I’ve had Chick-fil-A and I had never been to this Chick-fil-A before. I admire how quickly they get so many cars through their drive-in. But I was not impressed with my food. Ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. The bun wasn’t that good and was just weird. Maybe they gave me a gluten-free bun by mistake? The chicken was rather tasteless And sinewy, so I had to rip parts of it apart with my fingers. The condiments were almost nonexistent. The tomato was sliced so thin it was transparent and had no flavor. I think there was some lettuce in there, but I wouldn’t swear to it. No mayo of any kind, so it was sort of dry. I usually really enjoy Chick-fil-A grilled chicken sandwiches. Not tonight!
I absolutely love this drive-through coffee shop! Friendly staff, an assortment of gluten-free/dairy free pastries, delicious house made syrups, and most importantly, amazing coffee! The convenience of drive through is amazing too!
This place was recommended to us and it didn't disappoint.
We started off with queso fries and the super queso fries, both very good. We ordered their big cheese burgers, which were all cooked just as we asked, medium- rare on a gluten-free bun , medium, and medium well. And the youngest had their chicken nuggets and fries. The fries were fresh, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside.
Everyone had the same expression after eating. THAT WAS GOOD!
Our waiter was very attentive. He made sure we had what we needed. Overall, it is a very cool and chill atmosphere to have some good food.
The Appalachian Egg Scramble at Village Social is a hearty and flavorful gluten-free breakfast option. For $17, you can enjoy a satisfying combination of creamy grits, savory andouille sausage, sweet onions, and sharp cheddar cheese. It's a great way to start your day at Biltmore!
The Black Bird is a must do for dinner when in Asheville! This farm to table bistro is amazing! The service was wonderful, the food was outstanding, and the choices were great! They also had a good selection of gluten-free which I personally appreciate it Highly recommend it!! I don’t know why it says like that it’s just😊
What a wonderful experience made possible by Michael and team. Reserved Table for a surprise engagement dinner and it far exceeded expectations. Michael worked ahead of time with me to pair down the menu to make things simpler for the kitchen staff. Pricing was a flat fee per person and we received that value if not more. Service was wonderful and we had the restaurant to ourselves by the end of the evening. The nut, dairy and gluten free member of our party was fully accommodated and even had altered appetizers brought out specifically for him. Can’t say enough about the food, still think about the hand made cavatelli and rabbit sugo. Michael even printed out a customized menu for us which we have since framed. Impeccable experience, wouldn’t have done it anywhere else. Cheers.
Coffee here is excellent! Especially the cold brew and Mexican mocha. Mellow vibe and the music is just right. Their vegan/gluten free bread (I think it was apple/carrot) was super yummy too! We also love that there was a solid selection of non-coffee drinks.
