We had an amazing evening at The Firefly: the food was just amazing and the staff super nice! Thank you for providing a safe gluten free environment. We cannot recommend more this place
My friend, who is severely celiac, got very sick here. They say all the food is gluten free, but that’s obviously not true. We looked up everything about this restaurant after she got sick and saw the review of some other person on this site who also got sick. They sell a lot of oats, so that’s probably why she got sick. Cross contamination. Watch out!!! For the not celiac’s, the food is good it just isn’t totally gluten free.
Awesome place to eat first time here in San Francisco, and being a gluten free celiac, they did the best gluten free double burger with lettuce buns I have ever had. Their fryer is also GF and the potatoes are cut on site.
Such a tasty cozy brunch spot. We got a spot outside as this place tends to have a long wait time. They provided us blankets as it was chilly day. Make sure to get their biscuit - the gluten was well worth it as I'm a lil intolerant.
This place is clean, staff are friendly and the food was tasty! Gluten free bread and vegan options available. I ordered the tofu scramble and added a side of chicken apple sausage ($7) a bit pricey .. but I’d definitely go back to hang out in the outdoor patio area for brunch again.
This place is amazing. I didn’t play any games but the vibe of people in there was great.
Food was amazing. Great to have a fully dedicated gluten free menu. I will 100% be back
Wow! Great time with the grandkids!
Service was great! Very patient with teens!
Excellent Gluten-Free options. Couldn’t eat the fries but they gave a yummy side salad as a substitute.
Parking is difficult because it’s on Pier 39… but worth the trip.
It’s Hard Rock… will definitely go again!
Staff was excellent! I told them I had celiac disease and they said they could get me almost anything on the menu. Got an Amy’s burger and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was!!
Great food, really cute, and they were able to make things gluten-free for someone with celiac disease. Thank you Ronnie for being so accommodating and nice!
Gluten free menu items clearly marked but not remotely celiac safe food. Extensive discussions with patient and friendly waiter who kept checking with kitchen and was not versed in truly gf food. Mixed fryer. When we opened our gluten free take out meal it was covered in gluten gravy. With bun in a separate box. They didn’t charge us which we appreciated.
Interesting restaurant concept featuring an entire menu that is free of gluten, dairy, soy, and seafood. Ordered a large order for the company using DoorDash and it was all labeled and delivered on-time. Liked the wagyu beef mixed bowl and people were raving about all the other bowls as well. Portions seemed like they would be small since the bowl pricing was so inexpensive but it was a good hearty meal.
To say my dinner at State Bird was outstanding does not do the staff, the food, or the service proper justice.
I’m gluten intolerant (medical, not a dietary choice). Shawna, our server, and Hattie, the manager for the evening, not only ensured that the entire staff knew of the allergy, but went above and beyond to write out a menu for me, detailing what dishes could and could not be modified as well as what dishes were safe. As a first-time customer here, I could safely make informed decisions even with their dim-sum style of service. The impeccable attention to detail came from all staff members, and I was notified of possible modifications for every dish being brought around.
I felt so incredibly comfortable, accommodated for, and taken care of while navigating a serious allergy in this Michelin Star restaurant. Modifications can be a hassle and a half for the kitchen sometimes, especially with such a curated menu, and it felt like the most natural thing in the world here. Our service was smooth and easy, which was a breath of fresh air.
The food was spectacular: not only was there a wide variety of safe dishes to choose from, even the dishes that were modified were phenomenal, as if the lack of gluten was never a factor at all. At all. As in, seriously, GET the state bird with provisions and the whole shebang, because even when gluten-free the fried quail is astounding. The pork belly salad was brilliantly balanced, and the ice cream sandwich was an incredible end to our meal.
Cleanliness, attention to detail, friendly service, and seamless communication across the board were the cherry on top for this absolutely phenomenal meal. Thank you, State Bird Provisions, for the delicious experience. We’ll certainly be back for more.
This is definitely the place to go if you feel like you've "seen it all" when it comes to Californian cuisine. They will show you that you haven't! Our party of 4 all got the tasting menu so we could try as many dishes as possible. Many of the dishes were unusual flavor combinations, such as their well-known porcini donuts, or the octopus tostada with pluot and Jimmy Nardello chimichurri. I also noticed they have a lot of very umami-heavy dishes. They were also very accommodating of our gluten-free friend which was lovely.
I don't think it quite lived up to the hype -- it's not the first place I would think to take someone who came to visit. However, as I said above, if you're looking for a new spin definitely try this place out!
The service was friendly, and the overall vibe was lively but still cozy.
Love this place . Main thing is the menu changes daily so there’s always something new to try. I like to come fridays and eat at the bar , always a nice crowd and friendly people . The staff bar tenders hostess are all amazing ! I’m gluten free and there are plenty of options even desserts ! Great spot ! I’ll post some photos next time
Merchant Roots is the best restaurant you’ve never heard of. We’ve been to two of their tasting menus (Color Theory, and The Great Trees) and both were incredible. The team puts an incredible amount of creativity into their entirely new menu every quarter, and weaving unique stories and themes in to each of the typically ~10 courses. Each dish is its own mini masterpiece. For example - with Color Theory, each dish centered around both the visual color but also the emotion the color evokes - for the yellow course, think a crispy yellow potato topping that feels and sounds like crackling Fall leaves.
The restaurant only has 2 seatings a night, and up to 8 people per seating. This also means you get to interact directly with Chef Ryan and the rest of the team while they take you throughout the story. The wine pairings were solid both times - since they’re a smaller restaurant, they can get wines from smaller producers who don’t produce enough to be able to service larger restaurants. They also have a beautiful full-wall piece of art from local artist Meghan Shimek and her wool roving.
We’ve been to many tasting menus, but this one is by far our favorite and the one we always recommend to others. And the price point is well below what you’d expect for the level of the experience. My only regret in writing this review is more people may discover it and it’ll make it harder to get a table for future menus!
Note - given how much work goes into each dish, they can't do substitutions unless they state it's possible, which varies by menu. For example, one of their menu themes was seafood focused, so they offered a pescatarian option. And their current The Great Trees and upcoming Vanity Fair menus are offering a few nights where they can do a gluten free or vegetarian option. Make sure you check their website and/or reservations page to see what options they're offering.
AN AUTHENTIC ITALIAN RESTAURANT. I say for 3 reasons: 1. All the staff are Italian 2. A member of my dinner party lived in Italy for several years, is fluent in Italian who also has an Italian husband and she confirmed this place screamed proper Italian 3. It gave me massive nostalgia of my recent trip to Italy a few months ago.
I came with a party of 7 for my girlfriend's birthday. The manager Andrea was there at the front door to welcome us and quickly made small talk with our Italian speaking party members. We were sat upstairs in a balcony type seating which gave us a full view of the dining room - absolutely beautiful.
Our waiter Marco was attentive and knowledgeable about the whole menu. We had a child with celiac so he quickly told us everything that she could eat and she loved every bite of it!
All of the appetizers were amazing especially the meatballs, we had to order a second round. We ate the calamari, salads, and burrata which tasted amazing. We ordered individual pasta entrees of different varieties. Each member of my party could not stop talking about how delicious it was - IT WAS PROPER AL DENTE.
Drinks are so reasonably priced. A glass of wine is $10-$14 which is SOO cheap in my opinion but all the wine tasted amazing - the bottles all cost about $40-$50 which is very affordable.
To further compliment Marco, it was a busy evening but he never forgot a single thing we ordered even down to the modifications in a single persons entree. Even if his other duties created a longer wait time for our requests he continually reassured us that he would take care of it which he did.
Desserts were phenomenal and they were nice to us to comp a dessert for the birthday member. We had the Tiramisu, Red Velvet Cake, and the Panna Cotta.
Each one tasted amazing and we continually ate them despite how full we all were. Andrea was also so kind to bring the celiac child (Born in Italy and also speaks Italian) some gelato as it was gluten free and she was so thankful!! Andrea also gave us some Limoncello which tasted delicious!
As someone who works for a high-end restaurant in San Francisco, Bottega truly is one the best restaurants I have had the pleasure of visiting. This place is 20/10 and I WILL be back as soon as I can.
This is a repost of my yelp review, I wanted to make sure it was on both google and yelp.
Fantastic place for breakfast in SF. Spent a couple days on the boat at South Beach harbor and boy what a sweet little spot for breakfast. It’s been a long while since I’ve been there and it has changed hands in the last couple years, but its still awesome. They have the BEST gluten free bread…. Worth the try.
The best place for pre-Orpheam shows! You may eat along side some cast memebers (We did)!
Food is fun and they incorporate the show into the food choices and drinks.
Food was beautifully prepared. No Gluten free options so we had a unless burger and fish and chips. Burger was flavorless but looked great! Both our fries were cold. The drinks are fun and delicious. Yuzu tea was a favorite!
Atmosphere is fun and have cast signed posters. I'd go again! Next show for sure!
Make reservations the place is small but accommodating.

Visited for a Saturday dinner. You can make reservations on Resy for indoor or outdoor seating (free cancellation up to 3 hours before otherwise a $10/person fee). I put in a request to sit in their beautiful plant atrium, which they were able to accommodate.
Small menu but lots of gluten free options, some vegetarian, and some dishes can be made vegan. I got the Risotto ala Milanese and my friend got the Double Cheeseburger with fried egg. We both also got the featured 2022 pride drink Blue Ivy and shared the duck fat fries.
The duck fries were perfectly crispy and had an amazing flavor! We both really liked our cocktails as well. Unfortunately my risotto was rather bland and both entrees were on the smaller side. Would only return for those fries and to try some of their other cocktails
They said farro dish was gluten free but it wasn’t. Farro is literally wheat (gluten). It’s very scary and I realized this too late.
With this price tag I’d expect them to take better care of allergens and simply know what’s off limits for folks with certain food allergies.
Excellent spot to grab fresh, tasty food on the go. I love that all ingredients are sustainably resourced and are free from antibiotics/hormones. There are a lot of options too, including gluten free. I would just like to see more gluten free pastry/cakes options please, as they were always sold out.
Cute and dainty spot for afternoon tea. Highly recommend for the ambience.
Food was decent for the price but left feeling that there could’ve been more.
Was able to accommodate for celiac and pescatarian needs.
Delicious brunch, friendly staff, lovely restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.
I requested gluten free, host recommended a few options - tomato soup, smashed potatoes, and the smoked salmon toast replaced with a bed of gem salad.
Delicious and so lovely.
An amazing experience! I would rate higher than 5 stars if I could. Incredible attention to detail in every aspect of the restaurant, the food & beverages, and their service. The staff is very knowledgeable, provides excellent customer service, and seems so passionate about every dish and wine pairing they present. Each food item was expertly prepared using clever and creative ingredients and cooking methods.
Reservations well in advance are a must. You pre-pay at the time of booking. There are multiple options catering to a variety of dietary requirements, including the nuance of truly gluten-free vs. trace amounts of gluten is okay.
Tables are seated at staggered seating times, instead of pre-pandemic seating where they had limited seating times with communal dining.
It wasn’t too bad to be an airport restaurant they have gluten free bread!!! … but the waiter omg… he needs to know that not all customers are the same and not all of us are willing to receive jokes at 7 in the morning, honestly it was quite rude. Also, I couldn't remember a word in English, I tried to show him a picture and he kept talking to me, saying that word 10 times without letting me speak. Terrible…
Was a good option nearby union Square and a block from the cable car. Pricey as everything around but the service was very good, food was ok (nothing outstanding and just a few GF options). If are celiac look somewhere else.
Heidi was fantastic. We had a few people arrive late but she made sure everyone had drinks as they arrived. We had two people with food allergies that she accommodated as well. We came near the kitchen closing time so she did a great job of letting us know when our food orders needed to be submitted.
Wish there were a few more gluten free options on the menu. Wine menu is excellent and the cocktails are delicious.
Thanks Heidi for your patience with our party and helping me keep track of the drink menu! ♥️
