Service and atmosphere are great but food is beyond mid and overpriced considering the lack of real flavour, definitely not the most enjoyable sushi, iki is miles better for gluten free folks. But this place was alright.

We have been going to Asian’s with our family for years and it is the closest we have found to a UK curry in Vancouver - which is a huge compliment as the best curry restaurants in the world are in the UK!
Chef Rick has been in this business for over 45 years and he makes everyone feel welcome. All dishes are freshly prepared. He is there early every day prepping all the ingredients. For diabetics it is particularly good - he does not use sugar but instead does magic with onions to introduce a sweetness. This makes the butter chicken the best ever. I can eat here without the food spiking my blood sugars at all - as long as I don’t stuff in too much Nan!
The Tandoori mix grill is the best I have had. Mushroom matter is a favorite as is Lamb Sag. Did I mention the butter chicken!
He often gives our grandkids a box of home made sweets to go. Gluten free options available and ample free parking on the street outside.
I have noticed that Prices have not gone up since before COVID - go along as you won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely amazing gluten-free ramen. If you are celiac, I highly recommend this place! My friend and I got the same dish, mine was gluten free. The staff was also wonderful.

If this is your first time visiting Vancouver, Miku would be my top recommendations on your itinerary list for places to eat. Now, this isn't your typical sushi restaurant, in fact, I would consider this to be fine dining and here's why.
When it comes to Japanese food, presentation is the most important next to customer service level, and they are bang on. I absolutely love how intricate their sushi layered to simplicity on a plate. Reminds me of a zen garden. The waiters/ waitress' are knowledgeable of their dishes being served and super friendly! Dishes are, at minimum $20, but the portions are decently sized. (Anything with Wagyu will always be expensive).
They do offer gluten -free and vegetarian dishes and non alcoholic drinks.
(I had their Shiso Nojito and it was the most refreshing non-alcoholic I've ever had. Not too sweet either).
Overall, I would highly recommend it for first time travellers to Vancouver. It's absolutely a beautiful place to dine in!

Pretty good portion on the dosas if you get their Dosa of the day. I like the lamb on Tuesdays. Pretty fast at in-between times (non-dinner time) when they are quite empty. The dosa is probably gluten-friendly but you might want to ask if other ingredients inside it are gluten-friendly too.

I love the food and vibe here. As a Celiac, I always order their Trifecta Rice Plate and have always been asked if I'm Celiac or have a gluten allergy, which is reassuring.
My non-Celiac partner usually gets their banh mi and he loves them.

This was one of the best places we’ve ever been to! The food was incredible, the process of grilling our food was easy and the waitress was very helpful, the gluten free variety was huge and the service was top tier! Had no issues at all and although we ate a lot, the prices weren’t unfair at all. We’ll definitely be coming back! Thanks for everything!

Loved our experience at Minami - we had a bunch of dietary restrictions and were celebrating our wedding which they thoughtfully provided us with a surprise dairy free/ gluten free dessert 🙏🏼 service was excellent, we loved the aburis, brussel sprouts (try it!) and how fresh the sashimi was!

I’ve always loved coming here. Today was probably my 6th-8th visit, and I can say with confidence that Hello Nori is very consistent. The yellowtail hand roll with Shiso leaf added is my favourite. The by the glass sake options are great and they all pair well with the rolls. Lisa was my server today and she was excellent. She checked in lots and made sure that the chef was aware of my gluten intolerance. Gold star for Hello Nori, I will be back!

As Vancouver locals we love returning to Anh and Chi.
The food is always delicious as is the atmosphere. Felt compelled to write a review this time to commend Nico on his exceptional service. He is extremely thorough, attentive, knows the menu inside and out and was never flustered despite the busy restaurant. My partner is celiac and Nico was able to walk through suggestions in every category of the menu even explaining how the dishes are prepared (washing the wok during the prep, etc) and suitable substitutions if required. It’s hard to come by service like this in Vancouver, so we appreciated it! Thank you! We will happily continue to return and bring others with us.

Excellent restaurant! The only downside is the wait time (about 1 hour) as it is walk-in only and you cannot call to place your name on the waitlist over the phone. Nonetheless, great food and servers. We really appreciated how knowledgeable about they are about gluten allergies. We strongly recommend getting the fresh wasabi (3 dollars extra).
Known for generous portions and great value, this spot is a top pick for sushi lovers looking for a special experience in Vancouver.

Probably great for people with no dietary restrictions. Came here as a celiac with a vegan friend, both ended up with questionable plates. Struggled to find appropriate items in the menu. I said gluten free for an allergy, got told the wasabi on my plate has gluten so they put it on the edge. Vegan friend struggled to find anything suitable, ended up with a lot of egg in his order. Nice pictures of food, no way to ensure the safety of the order. Nice vibes. If you want to be sure of your dietary needs and you have transport then I recommend my favourite, Loku Sushi in East Van. They’re small but you know what you’re getting.

Wine was excellent, they had Sunday in August natural wine 😋 we got the lemongrass wings, the banana blossom salad and the pad Thai and it was all so tasty. I am gluten intolerant and they had quite a few options on the menu - though fewer mains than starters. Would go back! Great date night spot!

We just discovered Bao Down and it’s our new favourite place. The staff was polite, the service was speedy, and the gluten free options were legitimately impressive.
I usually love noodle box but this location service was terrible. I am a celiac and the kitchen mixed up my order. When I pointed the same the manager Romy was absolutely unapologetic and in fact rude about how it was a small mistake. Very disappointed about utter disregard for food allergies.

Maenam used to be my favourite spots pre-covid.
There food was delicious, like no other, and they gave good portions sizes.
Even pre-covid this place was not cheap, but the price you paid matched the quality of service and food, so it didn't matter.
This time, such a disappointment.
Me and a friend came by to celebrate my belated birthday dinner a few weeks ago, and it was such a let down, that I'm writing this review a few weeks later.
Cost was $130.00 CAD for 1 Soup, 1 appetizer, 2 entrées and rice.
The soup was good, the meatball appetizer definitely NOT WORTH IT.
The entrées were TINY, FLAVORLESS, and DRY. Could have basically just been an appetizer. We ordered: Squid, and stir-fried beef.
In addition, before they used to make the Pad-Thai gluten-free and now they don't, only offering the vegan version.
Why would I pay $26 for Pad Thai that has no meat?
Not worth the price for the amount of food and quality we received.
Maenam, you've lost a loyal customer.

Sushi was okay. I’ve had better. Didn’t taste super fresh, but it was alright. Nice to have gluten free options. Forgot to include chop sticks in my bag, and since I am travelling and staying at a hotel, I had to use my fingers, not ideal, but not the end of the world. I’d try somewhere else next time. Staff was not overly friendly.

As someone with celiac disease who orders lunch from this restaurant regularly, I’ve always tried to be understanding about the costs of specialty items, but this last experience was a deal-breaker. I’m already paying $9.99 for a 4-5 piece salmon roll, which I think is overpriced to begin with, but now they’ve started charging 20 cents per packet of GF soy sauce. Fair enough, I guess, but this time they charged me $1 per packet of GF soy sauce. That’s just ridiculous.
It feels like they're trying to make up margin on people with allergies, and that’s seriously frustrating. It’s one thing to charge a little extra for gluten-free items, but gouging customers with dietary restrictions feels wrong. I won't be coming back after this.

This place was bomb. The staff were so lovely and attentive - I heard our waiter speak at least three different languages fluently. They have a whole gluten-free menu which is pretty much unheard of for a Chinese restaurant. The food was wonderful, the drinks were wonderful, the vibe was wonderful.
The labeling of their menu is completely wrong! And has been for at least the past 2 years. If you are vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free (or have any dietary restrictions), avoid!
One time, the server did acknowledge that labeling is wrong and brought an "updated" menu with stickers to cover some of the errors but even those were inaccurate or missed a lot of v/vg/gf options.
I think that the inconvenience to fix the menu labelling is totally worth it to create a more pleasant dining experience (especially since a lot of Vancouverites have specialty diets).
Hope to see some changes soon!
Menu contains several items noted as "GF" however, items are not gluten free. They contain soy sauce and do not have a dedicated gf fryer. If it's not GF, do not label it GF.
Not recommended for people with celiac. Server seemed knowledgeable about fryer cross-contamination and gluten in soy sauce. Then served a dish with battered and fried onions.

I was delighted to find this delicious vegan and mostly gluten-free oshi sushi! I love fish, but the flavours and variations on the Omakase menu meant I didn't miss any of the flavours at all. Good ramen but not sure I'd wait almost an hour again next time. My friend and I put our name in around 1:30pm on a Saturday and were told to expect at least 75 minutes. We ended up getting a table around an hour later. It's nice they have the text system so it gives you a chance to walk around 4th Avenue.
I had the negi-goma ramen and added a soft boiled egg. My friend is gluten free and got the classic ramen with the vegan soup and gluten free noodles. She told me ramen danbo is the only ramen place in the city that she's been able to order gluten free noodles. Surpringly the ramen took a while to be served. Not sure if they had to make the vegan broth or get the GF noodles. My broth was really good and had a good sesame flavour. Noodles were good texture, unfortunately they forgot my egg. But I noticed a server and they brought one out on the side quickly. The egg was cooked perfectly and the yolk was nice and jammy.
I enjoyed it overall and would go again to try the classic ramen.

Beautiful and delicious rolls! Vegan and gluten free to make it awesome
Great food and even better service. They greeted and seated the 3 of us at a table for 6 even when there's smaller tables around. They even had gluten free soy sauce for my friend who had a gluten allergy. Their bento box D is well priced for $15 which would have been more anywhere else. Comes with ebi sunomono, tempura, a salmon skewer, sashimi, nigiri and one of their classic rolls.
A new favorite with fresh, delicious sushi and great rice-to-filling balance; they've improved their offerings based on customer feedback and needs.

Update:
I used to love iSushi, and the owners changed. It's a bit different, but still great. The fish has always been tasty, but the rice is a bit different than most sushi places I've been. While different, it still tastes quite good. They've kept the prices the same, and frankly quality and service has been good. They also still have gluten-free soy sauce and options.
My wife and I went during the grand opening, and multiple times since. They've definitely listened to customer feedback and have improved their food. The servers are very kind and so are the chefs! I hope they stay in business. Their Korean food is also pretty good :)
Delicious sushi, lovely employees. There are a few gluten free options that are celiac safe (NOT the BC rolls or spicy salmon. Avocado rolls were okay).

Great, buzzing little restaurant serving a mixed Asian menu. I'm vegetarian and my daughter is vegan gluten free and there's plenty on the menu to cater for us. Marinated aubergine is absolutely delicious. They serve a really nice pale ale, Superflux. The place gets packed over lunchtime and it's so popular people are happy to queue. Staff are friendly and professional. Highly recommended.

We were a group of 7 and about half of us had the tasting menu while the remainder ordered a la carte. I loved that they offer this option as many tasting menus require whole table participation.
It seems we ordered after another large group so we didn’t get our first course for 45 minutes after ordering. After that, the pacing improved. However, the service we received was quite strange. Every single time our server topped off a water glass, he spilled quite a bit on the table and never once acknowledged it. I could see the odd mis-pour on a long table but it was consistent. A couple of us had napkins completely saturated in water from cleaning this up repeatedly. He seemed very aloof and wasn’t the level of attentiveness I would expect at this price point.
The portions were great and the mushroom dish and sablefish were standouts. I have celiac and they didn’t need to modify any of the courses that I noticed which was a pleasant surprise.
Overall I felt the tasting menu was great value and the ambiance is lovely, just disappointing service.

The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about what was gluten free. As someone who is celiac it's normal to wait for staff to check with the kitchen, but not here. Wow, what a wonderful restaurant! As a celiac, I was pleasantly surprised to see a ‘gf’ label on the menu for each item that was gluten free. The waitress was even kind enough to inform us that the wasabi was gluten free, which was very exciting because often times it’s not gluten free.

Restaurant Yugo is an upscale Japanese French fusion restaurant that serves premium quality sushi as well as some less common, sophisticated offerings such as Foie Gras Donburi. I ordered some sushi for takeout from them recently. Featured here:
Hamachi Nigiri
Sockeye Salmon Nigiri
Gluten Free Avocado Oshi Sushi
Not the most exotic ingredients as Hamachi, Sockeye Salmon, and Avocado are all ingredients that you can find in pretty much any Japanese restaurant. The difference however is in how the ingredients were prepared.
Restaurant elevated these ingredients to another level. Most other restaurants use more rice for their nigiri and the fish lies flat on top of the rice. I love how the salmon and hamachi draped over the rice, with some extra fish hanging over the sides of the rice. The Avocado Oshi sushi was also sublime. Confit Tomato Sauce and Lemon Zest were brilliant additions which made the flavours pop in our mouths. My picky eater who usually just loves to eat a standard Avocado roll was most delighted with this new version of Avocado sushi!
Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner which is another plus for me because at the time that I ordered from this place, I'd been struggling to find a good sushi restaurant where I could order for lunch on a Sunday!
