Really good food, decent price and atmosphere. Gluten free. The thoughtfully crafted gluten-free offerings, such as the French toast and well executed smashed potatoes, are a testament to the kitchen’s attention to detail. I really like the complimentary tap water scene they have on the patio
This was my first time visiting the restaurant. I was in town for a wedding and googled. Having celiac and egg allergy it not always easy to find a good place with good options, but I was amazed by the food here. I went back a couple time's before leaving. This is going to be my to go spot always when in SA. Staff were great, atmosphere is very cute and friendly and did I mention the food ....it was AMAZING, so delicious, great variety , it made me like a normal person enjoying food actual regular food and not having to worry about getting sick!!! A definite win!!!
We came here to celebrate our son's 23rd birthday as well as his upcoming graduation from The Culinary Institute of America, and it was well worth every cent!
We did the tasting menu and shared everything family style. The food is dairy and gluten free as well as plant-forward. That said, the braised shirt ribs did not disappoint. We left full and happy.
If you're dining with someone who doesn't like vegetables, bring them here to change their mind.
Great with the order once we requested allergy protocols for gluten-free food handling for a celiac kid; even traded out a shake when it was ordered with cookies and cream and we forgot about GF sensitivity momentarily. Great service!
The food was delicious, I was able to have chicken fried steak and gravy gluten free!
The waiter was very knowledgeable about their gluten free options as well as gluten allergy/ Celiac. There is not a separate gluten free menu however almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free and they have a separate prep area/ fryer. My only issue was it was kinda expensive, very yummy though!
Three of us had a late lunch here today and the food was fantastic. One of our party members has celiac so the menu being almost completely gluten free without having to ask for substitutions was why we gave it a try.
We tried the mozzarella sticks, fish and chips, banger and mash and finally the sticky toffee pudding cake. Everything came out very hot and delicious with generous portions even from the lunch menu.
Service was great as well. She knew the dish’s ingredient information and was very kind and attentive.
The cupcakes are pretty good, rarely they can be a little dense/dry but they are almost always great! I reccomend the red velvet, lemon, and soft pink extra! The quiche and almond cake are outstanding.
For a bakery they have lots of gluten free options. Not just some cupackes, but brownies, monster cookies and almond cake? Wow!
It is pricey but I'd say it is worth it. Make sure to call ahead to see what gluten free is available if you want gluten free.
Server Mary was exceptional! Very kind and informative regarding menu items. One of the individual’s in our party had a gluten allergy.
Food was great and atmosphere was good. Was hoping to sit outside but wasn’t able during this experience, but Mary made up for it!!!!
So there I was, minding my own business, headed toward a totally different restaurant when—bam!—Miss Chickpeas Cafetel on Callaghan Road in San Antonio popped up like a delightful little plot twist in my lunch plans. The name alone caught my eye, and I figured, hey, why not shake things up?
The moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff, which already made this detour feel like a good decision. The vibe? Super cute, cozy, and definitely a place with regulars (always a good sign). And while I’ll be honest—I was a little skeptical about vegan food (I mean, can it really compete with the meaty classics?)—that hesitation melted the second I laid eyes on their baked goods case. Vegan and gluten-friendly treats that looked like they just stepped off a dessert runway? Yes, please.
Before I even touched a menu, I was already halfway sold. I chatted with the friendly staff, and one of them enthusiastically recommended the Breakfast Sammy. Throwing caution—and my meat-loving instincts—to the wind, I ordered it along with a German chocolate cupcake that was practically whispering sweet nothings from the dessert case.
When the food came out, it looked great. The vegan bacon threw me for a second—it definitely looked different—but once I took a bite, I was pleasantly surprised. Not your traditional bacon texture, but flavorful and satisfying in its own right. The ciabatta roll was soft with just the right amount of chew, and the whole sandwich worked really well together.
What made the experience even better? The staff came to check on me, genuinely interested in how I was enjoying my first dive into their menu. We chatted a bit, and they let me know their baked goods come from their local bakery right here in San Antonio. Major bonus points for supporting local.
All in all, Miss Chickpeas Cafetel was a refreshing, feel-good surprise. It’s a great lighter option when you want something satisfying but not heavy. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their breakfast offerings—and probably sneak in another cupcake (or two).
If you’ve ever been curious about vegan food but hesitant to try, let Miss Chickpeas be your gateway. It was mine—and I'm glad I took the chance.
Drove the 3 hours to Dallas just to come here and it did not disappoint! Incredible gluten free foods and those seem so hard to find these days. Absolutely delicious and everyone was so nice! I’m 100% going to come back!
The best cafe for anyone with anyone with allergies or diet restrictions. Gluten free options galore along with vegan butter and cheese! The best breakfast spot during a trip in Austin. The. One was eclectic and the staff were all very friendly.
Gluten Free waffles and golden tofu weekend brunch is incredible and so unique! Love everything I've tried. Over the years the service has been up and down, but the food is sooo good!!!
My family is obsessed with Rachel’s red velvet cake. My husband was recently diagnosed with Celiac and I found Sweet Charli Bakery when searching for a gluten free red velvet cake in Austin to continue our pre-Celiac tradition. We have now ordered 3 of these and would continue to pick this cake over one with gluten any day - it’s amazing! I can’t wait to try some of her other baked goods!
GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS
Food was delicious !
Service was excellent and our server was knowledgeable about gluten free options.
Sadly the only option for dessert was the Frozen Yoghurt was gluten free. I didn’t end up getting it because i was too cold to eat something cold since we sat in the patio area.
What An amazing experience. Everything on their menu is freshly made, no overnight veggies all vegan and gluten free! The village is filled with trees and is a cozy vibe!
Pet friendly
We ate in the little shaded alcove. Every aspect of our breakfast was picture perfect and Erica's smile was sunshine. We frquent it for breakfast. Good gluten free options.
This was a WOW for me. We were just passing through and asked some locals for a breakfast cafe nearby. We were to Bluebonnet Cafe and Tea Thyme Cafe. Once they said they offered gluten-free options, I was sold. If a place offers gluten-free options, they are sure to offer lots of fruit and veggie options and be very careful with their menu. I’m so glad we chose this one. The staff was SO kind and patient. The omelette was THE BEST I’ve ever had, with so many veggies, real eggs, and mozzarella cheese. I’ve never had an omelette with mozzarella cheese before. They also had a side called “enchanted mushrooms” and it was so amazing in flavor. I wish we had this restaurant back home. I’d be there weekly!
Finally! Gluten free pancakes that are perfect! I was so happy with my breakfast. I got the gf pancakes, fruit, and bacon. All were excellent. We went on a weekday morning and there was no wait. The staff were super sweet and the restaurant was clean. I’ll be back soon!
Disappointing Experience Despite High Hopes
As someone with a gluten intolerance, I was genuinely excited to try Grapevine Café due to their extensive gluten-free menu. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations, and we won’t be returning.
We arrived early on a Sunday (around 7:15 a.m.) when the restaurant was less than half full, so we expected prompt service. Our server, who never introduced herself, took our drink order (hot tea, smoothie, Diet Coke), which took about 10 minutes to arrive. After placing our food order, we waited another 25 minutes for our meals.
The food itself was underwhelming—my potatoes were cold and completely unseasoned. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to address it with our server, as she never returned to check on us. Dirty dishes remained on our table, and I had to go to the host stand to request the check since our server had vanished entirely.
With so many great breakfast options in town, I recommend exploring those instead. Grapevine Café might look promising, but the poor service and lackluster food made for a truly disappointing visit.
Delicious, nutritious and fresh food. Familiar with gluten free diet and nice options (gf crepes, bread, etc.) Nice choice of teas and coffee. Comfortable seating.
I ordered gluten free items on the menu (told the server I have Celiac - he said he had a celiac button on the register). The food did not come out with the gluten free flags. As someone with celiac, this is a great comfort to know the food was prepped with caution and not mixed up in the kitchen!
Love the patience and genuine friendliness of the staff, and the food was good! You can tell thought was put into texture and taste. Nice and casual spot for your omnis, vegetarians, vegans, and gluten abstaining besties.
Great Gluten Free (GF) options labeled on menu, although I wish places just had a separate GF menu. Pork chop & Peahces was phenomenal, along with the soup, Cesar salad, and meatloaf!
Usually no wait so reservations not always necessary.
Feels healthy.
Really cool place in downtown Tomball. We went there because my neutered heard there were gluten free options, and she wasn't misinformed! Tons of pastries, desserts and sandwiches that I could actually eat. Highly recommend.
I can’t say enough good things, every experience I’ve had here has been great. I’m gluten free and visit family in Galveston a couple of times a year but just found this place. Everyone has been so helpful when I’ve had questions. I’ve tried the gluten free pop tart, gluten free cinnamon roll, gluten free key lime pie, and gluten free vegan meatball pocket and gf v curry pocket and it’s all been soooooo delicious. It’s all so flaky and moist and some of the best gf pastries I’ve ever had. Their matcha is fine, kind of bland and too sweet but their iced tea is tasty especially when paired with a nice sweet treat.
Cannot recommend this place enough and I’m so glad it exists!
Mr. Natural has been doing veg in Austin since 1988 and it was honestly refreshing to visit a vegetarian spot that harkened back to a time when the dining format was as unique in a veggie restaurant as it was to find one at all. Point being there is a little learning curve to dining at Mr. Natural in my opinion. You order at the counter, which is the same order spot for baked goods (which are in three different locations), take out, dine in, juice, grab n go or soft serve. So you need to know what you want (definitely preview the menu online) before you step up to the counter and what your objective is. The staff is very, very helpful and will explain the salad bar (which is a whole other thing) and the validated parking situation (which is another). If you get stuff to dine-in, staff will bring it out and call out your name. They will bring silverware but you are on your own to retrieve water (by the salad bar).
The other interesting throwback I am more thankful for is the food. Almost everything is made in house and is not overly sweet or salty. In this day and age of frozen beyond burger restaurants I could not have been happier. The mole enchiladas were excellent and I bought waaaay too many baked goods to go. I did not realize beforehand that Mr. Natural had the widest and best selection of vegan baked goods in the Austin area with many gluten free options and beautiful custom cakes! This place will go in my regular rotation and I highly recommend it for a breakfast option.
*dog friendly patio
Jack Allen's is legit one of the best places in Austin. We've been a fan for years, and they've even catered our wedding back in 2011 when they used to do that.
Jack's menu has stood the test of time. Their specials are fantastic, and when they found out the margaritas has gluten in them (my wife is allergic) they even changed their recipe for it.
Hands down great value. You can seat 2 adults, two kids, appetizers, drinks, and dessert for far more reasonable prices than "trendy" places who either charge more or dont have nearly as good food.
If you don't like Jack's, your standards are wrong and I suggest you just move back to LA where at least you can feel important about it.
The best mochi donuts in Austin! Teresa and Anthony, a husband-wife power duo, run this little pop-up business all on their own. They use a traditional Korean recipe and use 100% rice flour in their donuts, making it completely gluten-free. The flavors change often and are creative, fun and ALWAYS delicious!
As a long time customer of True Food Kitchen - for more than 4 years - what initially interested us was the healthy non GMO, Gluten Free menu that does not use unhealthy seed oils (like Canola/Rapeseed Oil) in its food preparation. Since then, True Food has made some slight changes to its menus, including the use of controversial Vital Farms products as well as changes to its gluten friendly pizza dough and hamburger buns, however the one thing that has NOT changed - and is the best part of the restaurant: its employees. Ask for Chantal, Yuyu or Aaron - those are three of the best restaurant professionals you will ever meet! Their can do attitude, combined with their amazing ability to connect with customers is the REAL secret weapon at True Food Kitchen on PostOak. My family can eat at any restaurant in Houston, but we choose to eat at True Food Kitchen on Post Oak because we are always given excellent service and shown kindness when we eat there. Every restaurant should figure out how those three team members work, and copy it exactly - as a customer you leave having had a good meal, and GREAT service. Kindness, always served with a smile - and if there is any problem at all with your order, they are always quick to rectify the situation. You will never sit around with an empty glass of tea if you are being served by Aaron, Chantal or Yuyu. They always put the customer first - which is why, as long as they are working at TrueFood, we will always eat there! Give it a try - and ask to sit in their sections - you will have the best dining experience ever! Thank you Chantal, Yuyu and Aaron!!
always the best time here! tried the coffee cake and gluten free chocolate cake with strawberry icing and glaze. perfection! definitely will be coming back to try the other desserts!
My wedding cake from Unrefined Bakery was a huge success! Their team was helpful from the get go helping me design a wedding cake, taking into consideration my budget and guest count. The cake tasting was incredibly helpful, and we ultimately went with a strawberry vanilla 2-tier cake. They even provided me extra icing in case the cake got bumped in transit (which it did!) and I needed to patch it up. We ended up only having a few pieces left because all of our guests loved the cake. Would highly recommend for anyone gluten-free or not!
Nice place but not the menu for me. If your a healthy food eater who really needs gluten free this is the place. I'm almost 100% sure if you fit the description I just listed this is the place for you.
