Alexander’s Tavern is owned by someone knowledgeable about Celiac and offers a multitude of safe gluten-free options with a dedicated kitchen space and fryer! I recommend the nachos and tater tots!
the best gluten free pizza i’ve had in my life and it’s an authentic Napoleon style! the owner is so nice and checked on us our first time as gluten free diners, the pizza is prepared separately but there is gluten in the kitchen so keep that in mind ~ i’ve never had a reaction at verde or had a reaction with delivery - highly recommend!
Oh my dear beloved Burtons,
This is our go-to restaurant as a Celiac family. Any event, celebration, etc, we are at Burtons. Unfortunately, the Riverdale location is going off of our list and will be returning to the Alexandria location. When I say we go for all the celebrations, I'm not joking.
Yesterday was the worst experience we have ever had at any restaurant and it was brunch on Father's Day. Mother's Day was fine. We were there. No issues. But, Father's Day was a diabolical disaster. If this was our first experience, which I fear it was some people's first time, I would never come back.
Let me start by saying, the serving staff was amazing. You could tell the kitchen was falling apart but they were trying their best to hold the front of house together. I am going to repeat that we were there for brunch so when I say there were no water pitchers or food was unavailable, you know it got worse throughout the day into dinner service. Why advertise specials that you don't have? My husband and I both ordered off the specials menu. Appetizer sold out (at brunch.. yikes), main course was unrecognizable. They didn't have mashed potatoes, which were part of the dish. The sauce was missing from the chicken, and the chicken was more like Jerky. Needless to say, I took my meal home and didn't eat it. I was offered french fries at the end of my meal when I was informed there were in fact no mashed potatoes cooked. I took those home too. My daughter also ordered chicken that she didn't eat because hers was also a dried out jerky form.
I will say, the waitress did comp a piece of chocolate cake, but after spending $150 on meals that 3/4 of us didn't eat, I decided you need to do better. In this economy, $150 for a family of 4 to have brunch comes with a certain expectation and you failed. Like I said, our family adores Burtons and we know what this restaurant is capable of and a busy brunch isn't an excuse to lose customers. I can only imagine what a mess dinner service was when you were running out of food by lunch time. Poor management destroys business. Do better. You have a strong reputation to uphold in the allergy and celiac community.
Having several food allergies, this was easily the most seamless, delicious, healthy dining experience I had. There were plenty of amazing options.
I got the gluten free air-fried chicken parm with squash spaghetti noodles, a lemon tart, and a lavender matcha latte. My husband got blueberry pancakes, steak&eggs, yogurt fruit parfait, and we split a strawberry arugula salad. The dessert and drinks weren’t too sweet and the food was yummy. Our waiter Craig, did an amazing job making recommendations on items to try.
I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to go out to eat while making conscious health choices, actively trying to avoid inflammatory foods and seed oils, or with food sensitivities/allergies.
They can make almost everything on the menu gluten free and the food came out with an allergy sticker on it! Plus, a dedicated fryer- the truffle fries were AMAZING! No reaction :)
We are not from the area and we're traveling through. We ended up not being able to stop for dinner until 11:00 p.m. on a Sunday night. Good luck finding anywhere to eat at that time!! West End Grill was one of the few places that was open. I have a severe gluten allergy, and they had a separate gluten-free menu and separate gluten-free fryer. I got the burger with no bun and hand cut homemade French fries. It was awesome! My husband had the homemade jalapeno poppers and bought another order to go. They were amazing! For being a Sunday night at 11:00 p.m. the place is actually pretty packed, and the service was great! I'm so glad we were able to find the West End Grill and definitely will go there again on our way through the area. Highly recommend!
Love sobo cafe!! They are so careful and have so many gf options. I’ve eaten there so many times and never had an issue. The food is so yummy, my gf mom also loves this place. Cocktails are great too!!
Amazing food and service! Our waitress Jae was so helpful and attentive. My boyfriend has celiac disease and she took the time to mark up a paper copy of the menu with every gluten free option. We ordered a bottle of wine and the sommelier recommended a great bottle of wine in our price range. All of the food was great! The tapas are larger than at most American Spanish restaurants and are closer to the size of an appetizer. Strongly recommend the duck breast, the shrimp with chorizo, and the crème brûlée.
Disappointed in the new menu. This used to be my trusted gluten free and good restaurant. It’s hard to find good gluten free food in restaurants. The ramen has been taken off the menu, ok maybe it wasn’t popular enough. But now the crab cake is no longer gluten free and the Gluten free bread has a different texture. No sure when we will be back as we aren’t impressed with the changes in one of our favorite places. And the parking lot is a mess.
Love the environment. Gluten free menu options, excellent margaritas and knowledgeable staff (in regards to gluten free options). Only downfall is the prices of the drinks...I would have drank more had they been more affordable. Definitely would return though.
*Update: 12 hours after meal, still no gluten symptoms!*
Very gluten friendly. Had a pizza. Our waiter, Diego, seemed knowledgeable about gluten issues and asked if it was an intolerance or an allergy. I'm pretty sensitive and I didn't have any issues after my meals. Will definitely be coming back! Not going to lie, I get sick most places that claim to offer gluten free pizza. NOT HERE!
There are GF options that include entrees and salads in addition to pizza. Website mentions that they worked with the GIG (gluten intolerance group) to develop kitchen procedures, which is why we decided to go there.
Great service, yesterday i have an issue with an order but Elizabeth help me out and she was very kind and friendly, i had gluten allergies and she made sure to make the right bowl for me, i will definitely go back
We usually go to the location in Hunt Valley, but happened to be in Annapolis yesterday. I'm gluten intolerant, and I have zero issues with their cauliflower crust. This location was not very clean. The seats were full of crumbs, and there was food splattered on the wall in our booth. I didn't find the Margherita pizza as good....way too much cheese. And the Caesar salad dressing tasted odd...compared to what I'm used to. Out of caution, I didn't eat the salad because I know there is no gluten in the dressing at Hunt Valley. And this tasted and looked more like Thousand Island dressing. Our server was great. But I won't go back.
They have a gluten free menu and as soon as I mentioned it to my waiter he asked if I had Celiac - the manager even came out to talk to me and make sure that I felt safe. I ordered the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna and they were able to substitute the sauce for a GF one! They also checked to see which cocktails were gluten free for me. Highly recommend!
We've been here a few times and it's been great. In the past, we've had Juan and he was wonderful. This time our server was Alex and he was terrific, too. Our daughter has Celiac disease and they were knowledgeable and careful about it. Additionally, a lot of their menu is naturally gluten free.
Our work dinner was excellent! Everyone found great options on the menu after sharing several appetizers! And there were delicious gluten-free options as well!
Pros: Great food, good amount of parking, friendly staff
Cons: Staff not informed about menu items and related food allergies. I was "assured" that one item was gluten free, but it wasn't and I am paying for it.
the food is good, our Italian friend always wants to go here and says it's as authentic as you get around there. ive only been for lunch a handful of time but its usually not crowded. some vegetarian options, not many vegan or gluten free.
This is not a great place for people with food allergies. I’ve had several issues in this regard.
My wife has a tree nut allergy. She had an almost immediate allergic reaction after eating…tater tots. At first we were very confused, but after checking the menu closely, we saw that a different dish contained fried nuts. Apparently they have one shared fryer that they use for anything for fried. My wife was sick the rest of the night.
I on the other hand have a gluten intolerance. They mark items on the menu that are gluten free…but 90% of those items are also fried in the shared fryer. So, they’re not actually gluten free.
The wait staff has always been great the few times I’ve been here, but they really need to address how they handle dietary restrictions better.
I tried their birria quesadillas made with corn shells. The meat had great flavor. The birria broth had a touch too much cinnamon for my taste, but it was still good. They were very accommodating with my gluten allergy. The waiter was able to tell me what was gluten-free and what I should avoid. I really appreciate it when the wait staff can answer my questions regarding allergens.
It was a busy night. All the tables inside were full. The hostess opened the enclosed patio (with heaters), so I didn't have to wait, which I was totally fine with. Inside was very loud with people talking over the music and other people, so I was grateful to sit on the patio and enjoy my dinner.
Our server, Greg was fantastic! We had a party of 15+, Greg was very attentive, professional and all of our food was out quick. We had a friend in the group that was gluten free and he made sure that the order was made appropriately. Greg made the experience a good one.

My niece and nephew secured the first floor of this exquisite venue for my brother and sister-in-law's surprise 40th-anniversary celebration on June 1st. The catering was exceptional, featuring delectable hamburger and chicken sliders, vegetable egg rolls with a spicy honey glaze, shrimp dip, and outstanding gluten-free brownies. The service was exemplary, with attentive and friendly staff who catered to all guests, particularly our senior attendees. The bartenders were equally professional and skilled. The event far exceeded our expectations; it deserves a rating of ten 🌟, though the maximum allowed is five.

The food and service at this place are excellent. However, it would be great if they could offer more gluten-free options for those of us who have celiac disease.
Pleasant place for a Saturday lunch with the family. Food was excellent. Our waiter was gluten free and understood the needs of our daughter and granddaughter.
The absolute best gluten free pizza ever!! My friends had the calzone and they were huge!! The staff is always nice and the place is always clean!! I would highly recommend.
I have never gone to eat here without the owner Mona herself being super friendly and making sure we are well taken care of. This is a great business. The food is great too! I only wish that there was more gluten-free options.
A fun brewery vibe and nice location. All of the staff are so friendly and fast—making it a great spot to hang with friends. The tacos are delicious (ask for onions on the side if you aren’t a fan of a large amount per taco), along with the rice/beans. I don’t drink beer (celiac) but their selection was impressive. Good pricing too.
My wife and I have been here in the past. Friends of ours bumped into us tonight and invited, spontaneously, for us to come out with them to dinner. They chose Cork. Kassie, our server, was attentive to my wife's urgent requirements for her gluten intolerance. But the real show stealer was Chef Gordon. Never met one like this before. My wife has had to eat gluten free for many years. No one, and I mean no one, has ever asked her for her name so they can write down her food likes and dislikes for the next time she comes in. Wow. VERY impressive. Overall the food was Very delicious, including the steak and the desserts. The shrimp salad app was a little bland though. But that was outweighed by Gordon's true interest in making sure my wife was happy, and pure happy she was when she ate his fried shrimp, cod and fries. Gotta live that dedicated fryer!!!!! Thank you so much, Gordon, for a great experience.
Long wait but delicious food. I was a little bothered that there weren't clear gf selections and that my server didn't know for sure what was/wasn't gluten-free.
The place is nice and amazing. Plenty of options to choose from, this is one restaurant that I would recommend for vegan or gluten free. Lots of options. They also sell wine and beer. Staff are very kind. My favorite was the hazelnut latte very good. All items looked to be made fresh 😀! It is on the more expensive side but definitely worth every dime.
What a great local spot! Lots of options for me that are gluten free. Everything was delicious. They have live music and other cool events. The staff were very welcoming. The yogurt parfait was a delightful surprise! It wasn't bland at all. The homemade jam in it was amazing! The bread pudding was delicious as well, according to my partner. And my bagel with turkey on it was very good. I was so happy to have that option for breakfast.
